: Help us pick The Best of RPPR!
: clockworkjoe November 14, 2010, 05:10:33 PM
I have an idea: Find and post the Best of RPPR on Youtube. People already post audio clips from popular podcasts so why not RPPR? The problem I face is simple: We already have well over 300 hours of content on RPPR and I want clips that are less than 15 minutes, preferably ones that are 1-5 minutes long.

As an example of what I'm looking for: http://slangdesign.com/rppr/RPPR-Otyughs.mp3

This is where you come in.

Use this thread to post your favorite excerpts from whatever RPPR content (regular show or AP or whatever) with approximate time code so I can easily find them.

I'll reward people that contribute a lot to this thread - not sure how but I'll think of something.

Shit-eating monsters in NWC (session 15 or 16 I think).

Sucrose Park AP - "I'm trying to overload her circuits, boys!" Nurse Ratchet/Cody interaction: 1:39:30

Thirded.

Question: What are we using for visuals?
: Re: Help us pick The Best of RPPR!
: clockworkjoe November 14, 2010, 06:17:24 PM
as for visuals - I will probably use found art on the Internet as a slideshow and of course the art from the NWC PDFs

This.

Definitely this...

For more serious clips, I recommend:

NWC game 30: The final scene where Locke presents his 'pleasure' to break the curse. - 2:35:45
NWC epic 1: The scene with Locke and Pontifex - 2:21:59
NWC epic 1: "What's your policy towards zoning?" - 2:20:09

Candle Cove: The final confrontation vs. the Skintaker. - 5:18:26 (This may be too long, but in my opinion this is one of the best scenes you guys have ever done.)

Will edit and post time-codes later.

EDIT: Time-codes added, a few more suggestions added.

Agreed.

Visuals I say go with the Cover of the book, or if you wanted a shot of the main cast of RPPR. Ross and Tom for sure, add in the regs as the appear in the content.

The Otyughs is a bit harsh haha! its defently a best of, and should be in there, but wouldent lead out with it, make that a best out takes, or tangents.

And with this are you going for more Best of Actual plays or, of the main pod cast it self. Main podcast it self, I would go with your interview with Adam Scott Glancy, I would have to go back threw and review it for some of the better moments in there but it was a good interview, and maybe add in ASG Dig to victory when hes going on about the diffrent wepons they used back in the tunnels.

Best of moments in AP, the near fight of Cody and Tom back in the early days of the new world. Tom in Omar must die, when hes talking on the phone, or when he talks about the ghouls, Gaga 2.0 theres a bunch of good moments in there, Major lazer going crazy and nading in the end but saves 1 person or him and his nausator in the concert hall, Monsters and other Childish things Pastoral Maner Truck hammer zilla was great in there, and of course running into the mole, talking to briar rabbit had a lot of good content in it. Delta green Night shift, you could do all the plays of the cinnabun sceen group them up into one movie showing how teach party handled it, Well of sacrfices with Aaron convinced he needs to get into the well and kill whats in it, and comes back as a diffrent player doing the same thing haha. The Uboat whit ross on the Mounted machine gun just blasting the crap out of the deep ones, Tom rallying the troops to take on the island.

: clockworkjoe November 14, 2010, 06:46:17 PM
I don't want to post entire episodes - I want short excerpts that are entertaining as stand alone clips.

I also do want to get excerpts from the main podcast as well.
: Re: Help us pick The Best of RPPR!
: rayner23 November 14, 2010, 06:53:04 PM
Ross, let me just say that I love this idea.

Second, there was a NWC game where you and I do "Monsters of Rock" and it was amazing. Anyone know where that one is?
: Re: Help us pick The Best of RPPR!
: crash2455 November 14, 2010, 06:53:27 PM
Possibly also Aaron's first CoC game.  Duff McWhalin must be shared with the nets.

Also, the shorts (fanfiction readings and AB3 stuff) could work as well.  I would also recommend the Car Wars anecdote (world's fastest TPK).

Do the hotel scene from Gaga 2.0. It might be my favorite thing you guys have ever done.

I think for the visuals, something resembling the Ventrilo Harassment videos would work great.

(Lower the volume a bit.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfhzTCwWzdE

Sucrose Park AP has great scenes with Cody.

"I wanna get sucked! I wanna get sucked! I wanna get sucked!"

And the conversation between Dash Guster and the giant brain.
"You don't have a soul and God hates you. Good-bye Mr. Brain!"

A Dirty World: Andrew's Fortune

Any scene with Aaron in it.

Aaron's The Haunting

You can simply cut out any scene and it will be hilarious. "Little crusader's pancake jamboree."

Ideas, will check for time codes later tonight:

Locke playing the priest of Pelor (like a televangelist) to (I think) convince what's his name to take the boat 1:45ish-1:55:30ish (meat of the bit starts at about 1:48:30/1:51) NWC 28 7/12/2010 (In reviewing this scene, I forgot how great Ross and Dan did as well)

The chaos in planning the destruction of the phylactery in the town hall

(Not sure about this one)  I seem to recall something amusing regarding convincing the water spirit and fire spirit to wed.  Maybe it was just their impersonation of the water spirit.

I think this was from the main podcast (it could be from another since I was checking out several at the time), sometime two years ago or so you each made up RPG scenarios based on 4-5 elements that the other came up with

Really short segment, but from the Santa Claus MaOCT, the bit where one of the players was flustered and swore, not being sure what to say and you took that as in game dialogue

Meeting up of the 1980s LoEG 10:00-15:00-ish 5/15/2010

Tom's rant as a velociraptor in the Wushu dodgeball game (about how humiliating it was to pretend to be unable to open a door)

The April Fools game for CoC (maybe can just do the whole thing) Call of Cthulhu - Wrath of Cthulhu Game 73 4/1/2009

Cody talking to the lunch ladies in the Arcadia Signal game

The fight in the hotel in the Cyberpunk game

Something from Tom's crazy character in the GURPS yakuza game (I don't remember much about the scene, but I think there was one where he took a guy's head and paraded around with it, or something of the like)

The gremlin fight in the 1980s LoEG game 17:00-33:30-ish problem finished, some distractions, then plan to wrap up from 35-39 5/15/2010

The "Is that a tree on that badge encounter" in the Candle Cove game

Talking about the skinheads/shooting on the roof/jumping on segways/the cinnaman/whatever else in the Night Cop game

There was another one with one of Tom's characters I can't remember

New World Gaiden 2: Talking to the spider "I'm allergic to health potions" 3:28:30-3:37-ish 10/7/2010

*All dates are the dates posted (from iTunes)

So that's what's off the top of my head, I'll look for more tonight when I go in depth for time codes.

Guess I will have to be one of the coolkids and edit in the timestamps when I have access to an actual computer.

I'm surprised there's not that much love for Former President Martin van Buren, beyond Maze and myself. I literally could not stop laughing for thirty or so minutes after I heard FPMVB relay his origins. The conflict between The Blonde Asshole Curtis/Silver Surfer and FPMVB was hilarious as well. "I proclaim your shit to be weak."

Caleb's "Objectivist!" outbursts are pretty funny. Might need too much context for the format you have in mind, though. I bet you can use your "Fighter Stereotypes" rant from the latest Dark Sun episode as a transition or something.

As far as serious excerpts go, the founding of the Nation of Quetzacoatl is my favorite. So much descriptive imagery and symbolism. The Skintaker's appearence in the college library parking lot, complete with calliope music, is a close second. Oh, and anything involving Numbers Stations.

Someone should definitely put up pictures representing all of the pop culture references I made during the Martin Van Buren origin. Alex Mack, Dark Tower, She-Ra, Hordak, etc.

There could also be animations accompanying the audio clips, something that passive-aggressively mocks the players (the animation stuttering during one of Aaron's "it's like" episodes or Caleb's character replaced by The Fountainhead/Atlas Shrugged at random points in the DS campaign) or literally depicts some of the more ridiculous moments (Mr. Kyle opening his coat and revealing a smaller man with a gun pointed at Cody's character, from Andrew's Fortune).
: Re: Help us pick The Best of RPPR!
: crash2455 November 15, 2010, 01:02:09 PM
I think that the Ventrilo harassment style is fairly good too.  For anything not picture-worthy, just putting up the words as they're said seems to punch up the hilarity.

If we had more time/effort, something like this (http://speakcosby.ytmnd.com/) could be awesome.

Edit: The Yahtzee Croshaw (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation) school of spoken word videos could work too.

Animation takes time, especially since I am not a skilled or fast animator nor am I an artist. If you have any ideas on how to animate things very quickly and efficiently, I am happy to hear your suggestions but my goal is to push out a steady stream of content and the only way I will do that is if every individual post takes relatively little time.
: Re: Help us pick The Best of RPPR!
: crash2455 November 15, 2010, 03:01:53 PM
We could also try animating and uploading them ourselves to some joint account.  Distributing the workload could make that happen.

I was listening to this while helping paint some things at my church.  Luckily I was in the other room alone tracing when it got to this part.  It's kind of awkward to explain why you are laughing so hard sometimes.  Unfortunately one of the other really memorable moments (Cody overloading the robot) came about while I was riding with my family on a road trip squished in the back seat...

Any Jessica story is probably worth telling.

When I interviewed Ron Marz (current writer of Witchblade) for my website, I told him about Jessica's Witchblade story and he was crying because he was laughing so hard.

Oh man, I would love to hear that.

Might be a good idea to record when you do interviews, as something to put up on the Popgun podcast or whatever.

All I have so far to contribute is from the Sucrose Park AP. I'm trying to actively look out for times of awesome stuff, but it's easy to get distracted from that. Also I think Monsters of Rock was in the paragon tier of the New world. I may try to hunt it down. I thought it was hilarious.

Starts at: 5:22/6:04 (can start at either or)
Ends at: 6:12

it's funny because Cody doesn't actually have limits.

Starts at: 18:31/18:50 (can start at either or)
Ends at: 19:10/19:17 (can end at either or)

because cody wants to be sucked.

Dwarf Oprah is excellent but I think the time code is wrong for the pants part. Can't check it now but i'll go back and make sure.

RPPR Flamewar

Holy shit, guys, I listened to this again and about dropped my shit.

Ross: I AM SPECIAL FORCES, I WILL FIND YOU AND KILL YOU!
Tom: Boy scouts doesn't count.

This had me laughing at my cubicle at work. Thanks, guys. Throw in little bits of this recording around the best of RPPR episodes and you've got lots of short filler gold between longer segments.

RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE

finally figured out how to do this. Instead of animating it/doing a slideshow, I'll get actors to reenact these bits as a kind of improvised comedy skit.

I can't remember the name, but my favorite is the Delta Green game based in a mall that ended up being Carcosa. I like it for Cody's character, who was a parody of all the grizzled voice badass characters of recent years. The stuff he said in that voice, I couldn't breathe I laughed so hard. "I'm going to the toy store." "GODDAMN GOD!!!"

Sucrose Park: Princess Cowboy.

I just shot an improv skit of door to door otyugh salesmen trying to sell an otyugh to a gay couple (based on the otyughs for sale in the new world campaign)

The real beauty of this skit was that it was completely improved. We spent about five minutes generating character archetypes and then just went nuts. Somehow Tom and my characters went from being belligerent trolls to being furries. I'm still not sure how that happened.

I'm pretty sure the thing that had me laughing the most out of what I've listened to (about 40% of the site content) was Aaron and Tom's interaction in Bryson Springs (starting at about 1:13:30) that culminated in a fistfight and Aaron's professor character knocked out, shoeless, and handcuffed in the back of a police car with a mafia hitman.  Caleb's reaction to them had me dying.  A highlight reel of all the damage Aaron took in that session (which stands out as my favorite AP yet) would be pretty great, too.

From the Wild Talents campaign, the escalating comedy of errors that led to Aaron's Hobot becoming the feared ROBOT ASSASSIN of New Arcadian headlines would be funny (I think) to hear all at once.

Not picking on Aaron, but between dubious choices and poor luck he has created some of the funniest moments I've encountered in roleplaying outside my own table or KoTD.

Some excellent fodder for a Best of RPPR video: Planning the attack on the Syndicate from the latest New Arcadia episode. Something about the image of a vigilante hero writing out the "pros and cons" of being Big Damn Heroes is fantastic.

Plus the claymore. Gotta love the claymore.

And the whiteboard. I can see it now, laser pointer, dry erase markers and all.
