Take Me Through The Darkness [Dark Conspiracy: 3+ Players]

Game Title: Take Me Through The Darkness
System: Dark Conspiracy
Players Wanted: 3 or so. I already have 2-3 confirmed players and I don't think it would be fun to have more than 6 total.
Posting Rate: I'm going to see how regularly I can post, but currently I'm expecting a couple of times per week.
Special Rules: Right now I'm going very rules-lite, mainly because the Dark Conspiracy rules are pretty complicated and I really don't want to read the book again. We'll be focusing on character development and role-playing over "roll-playing". I'll probably use some simple dice rules as a randomizer.
Advancement Rules: I'm in favor of character advancement so I'll probably modify (homebrew) the advancement rules from the original Dark Conspiracy.

Here's the pitch:

Take Me Through The Darkness: A Tale of Dark Conspiracy

Bourne, Oregon is a sleepy little town tucked away in Cracker Canyon along the Idaho border. The only civilization for miles around, Bourne functions as a supply post of sorts, serving the needs of the remaining timber operations throughout the majestic Blue Mountains.

Baker County was once a hub at the center of a number of highly-profitable logging sites, but the due to increased competition from abroad, many of the companies went bankrupt or moved operations overseas. Several small towns in the area were gradually abandoned, leaving behind emptied buildings and a shattered economy, until only Bourne remained.

But much like other small towns all over America, life in Bourne goes on. The town was home to the 1987-1988 women's hockey state champions the Lady Falcons, and every October residents celebrate the annual Redwood Festival.

Lately though folks around Bourne have started noticed something amiss.... a nagging uneasiness and foreboding.

The night of September 12, 1991, a bright light appears over the skies above Bourne. Residents file out of their houses with an eerie sense of calm, observing the play of lights above with muted awe.

The next day, Bourne became a ghost town. Over two hundred people disappeared without a trace.

Twenty years later, the first survivors have come forward

This is their story. It is the story of what transpired on that fateful night. It is the story of those who survived the Bourne Incident. But it is also a story of Our Dark America, and the continuing drama of those who would bring light to a land engulfed in shadow.

Characters

The mood and setting is reminiscent of gritty 80s and 90s scifi and horror films such as Scanners, eXistenz, Alien Nation, Twin Peaks and the X-Files (TV series).

Player characters may be of any age, background, etc. The characters live in or are staying in Bourne, Oregon at the time of The Incident. Characters are expected to be ordinary Americans; no CIA agents or werewolf pirate ninjas raised by psychics. That said, characters in this game should be survivors, and they should possess the moral fortitude, interest and resilience required to lead them into a life of investigation as they begin to untangle the web of mystery surrounding the Dark Conspiracy. If you are interested in playing an Empathic character, let me know so I can discuss specifics with you.

The world of Dark Conspiracy is a grim one. No one is safe, and players should expect a game in which death is ever-present; torture and violence are everyday occurrences. Characters will have to rely on each other to survive, but betrayal is all-too-common, and many of their comrades are likely to die (as may some of the characters themselves).

I'll get some more stuff up tomorrow but I'm just sounding out interest right now.

I'm in but you know that  8)

Are the PCs the actual survivors or the people that moved in after the mass disappearance?

I'm interested but I don't have any knowledge about Dark Conspiracy. Do I need to know the rules regarding the system before playing, or will you guide us as to how the system works?

Yeah, we might even do this as a Nemsis (ORE) game - emphasis is on the storytelling not rules for this game.

The setting is 1991, so keep that in mind. Characters should live in Bourne during the Incident. They are the Survivors.

To play, read up on Character Creation in the Character Profiles section. http://slangdesign.com/forums/index.php?board=37.0 (http://slangdesign.com/forums/index.php?board=37.0)
Then post a character idea in a separate thread or message me privately. I will work with you on character design.

For gameplay, it will be pretty simple, as Ross said, the emphasis will be on storytelling. Check out the posts on How to Play and How to Roll Dice. http://slangdesign.com/forums/index.php?board=38.0 (http://slangdesign.com/forums/index.php?board=38.0)

Once we get a critical mass of 3-4 players, we can get started! I think it will be a lot of fun.  :)

Great! When you've come up with a character concept, pitch your idea on the Character Profiles board: http://slangdesign.com/forums/index.php?board=37.0
