: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Mckma November 25, 2011, 09:02:38 PM
I figured it might a good idea to move this out of the Vidja Game thread to it's own.  Basically just general discussion on the server and what's what.

Was someone doing something with the trees in the back of the "base?"  I was clearing stuff out and discovered a torch up at the top and thought someone might be using them.  If so, I apologize.

Anyway, I also thought we might be able to figure out some way to organize some type of project descriptor so people don't accidentally mess up another's plans too much...

The server IP is 64.74.111.41:25581

BLARGH I TAKE OVER THIS POST

SERVER RULES

NO GRIEFING - no destroying other buildings, no pouring lava on them, etc.

NO STEALING FROM CHESTS - only take from your chests or chests clearly labeled as public property

PLEASE POST IN THIS THREAD IF YOU WANT USER PRIVILEGES - if you join the server now, you will be a guest that can't open doors or modify the environment in any way. I have to approve all members. Soooo, the easiest way to do that is to register for the forums and post here with your minecraft name so I know who you are.

Torches on the tops of trees help keep spiders from spawning on top of them.

The tree top village is coming along well. I'll be finished with the hobo-hotel expansion tomorrow sometime. I just have to shave enough sheep for the beds.

Sheers are for vines, not for sheep use your sword!
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread

It's fun. It's kind of survival horror in a way. You start scared, then you think your safe, and then boom, you lose everything (or at least suffer some damage).

Or if your me, you die about 50 times during a single session trying to get some damn stone to build your castle cus you must brave the deep tunnels that are right there.

P.S. I found gold once too, but then a spider killed me and well I have no clue where the loot fell too. /sigh.

Figured I would move this to here.
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Tadanori Oyama November 26, 2011, 02:26:05 AM
The tree village is nearing completion. Half of the water based transit system is prepare and ready for expansion.

I'm offering up a VoIP server that I run with a few friends for use by anyone who's playing on the Minecraft server or any other reason.

You'll need Mumble: http://mumble.sourceforge.net/
The server is IP 85.236.100.59 PORT 11312

Another thing is, please introduce yourself so we know you're from the RPPR forums.

Steam group for the Mumble server: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/Thrust-Incorporated

Finished my moat, underground tunnel is done, now I just need to actually build my tower...
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: clockworkjoe November 26, 2011, 04:27:17 PM
I bought a year of hosting with these people with their cheapest plan http://www.akliz.net/minecraft

Despite the recent Kickstarter success, I can't really afford to pay any more. The HD camera cost more than I initially figured and there's rent, artists to pay etc.

However, if anyone donates to RPPR with a message about using it for minecraft hosting I'll use it for that purpose. I think they apply what you've paid when you upgrade plans so take that into consideration.

Up to you guys!
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Tadanori Oyama November 26, 2011, 04:49:35 PM
I'll probably make a donation in the near future.
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: clockworkjoe November 26, 2011, 10:25:36 PM
Started a boat house on the northern shore. Feel free to finish it. I'm out of cobblestone at the moment.
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Mckma November 26, 2011, 11:48:42 PM
Planted some trees around my tower, I would appreciate it if they were largely unperturbed.  The trees south to the compound (on a hill) next to fort 2 are free game though...

Oh, and a Creeper blew up in the main compound, so Darksaw and I need to do some repairs...
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Mckma November 27, 2011, 03:49:15 AM
Oh gosh...

I have played this game ENTIRELY too much today...

On the bright side, I have officially moved out of my hobo-hut into my tower...
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Darksaw November 27, 2011, 11:40:50 AM
I have constructed a tunnel to the northern continent. I also extended the compound wall to the boathouse.
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Tadanori Oyama November 27, 2011, 04:14:48 PM
The tree village continues it's northern and western advances. I've begun construction on my actual house now that I have enough coverage. The main hall will be finished soon, and the hobo-hotel will be expanded. Then it's on to the library and the inter-facility rail system.
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Mckma November 28, 2011, 01:15:06 AM
I have completed (at least in its current form) my tower.  Which is good because I need to take a break to study and prep for finals this week...

Anyway, if you go under my tower and into my "mineshaft" there is a lot to explore, namely a bunch of obsidian if you keep going straight and then look around once you leave my "outpost" (the big open room with a bench and smelter and numerous torches)...
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: clockworkjoe November 28, 2011, 02:01:55 AM
I finally figured out where new players spawn in relation to the original fort. I have no clue how the spawn point moved so far but when I first spawned I was nowhere near any mountains or desert.

I think I originally spawned on the small island northeast of the main base and made my way south to the plains where I started the original fort.

: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Boyos November 28, 2011, 07:32:17 AM
I allways spawed west of the fort, kinda where the mine shaft me and darksaw investigated.
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Darksaw November 28, 2011, 11:31:28 AM
I also spawned west of the fort.

Here's the NPC villiage I found and where the north tunnel exits.

: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread

I built a lava fountain and an info center for new players near the generic spawn point.

We have a brewing stand now. I have absolutely no idea how to make potions but it seems you need Nether Warts to do anything good.

I might try and remake an underground garden/hovel that I made on a server back in the early days of Minecraft. I only have one picture of the area, but just imagine what you can see but a little more open and four times the space. The picture: http://i.imgur.com/jH00P.png

nice! What's that map plugin you have in the top right corner?
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Darksaw December 01, 2011, 09:10:35 PM
I don't remember the name of it, it was over a year ago and the next patch to Minecraft broke the plugin and I don't think the creator ever updated it. This was a time before Maps and Compasses so it helped a lot.

Finally joined.

Got super lost. I can't read my coordinates because of the spikey graph thing.

Found some lava, built The House of The Jack-O-Lantern. At the base of this crazy mountain, lots of chickens in the valley. Made some sort of crappy torch trail. :D
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Boyos December 02, 2011, 04:26:20 AM
Ive started a temple to the god Coddowalshagoth, I put in a glass floor and I want to put lava under it, so if anyone wants to help and add in the lava under it that would be nice. If not ill take care of it later. Its in the southern swamps.

BTW thad your pit is amazing.

I will upgrade the server capacity as soon as I hear back from the hosting service on how to do that.

server upgraded to 16 player max. I'll add Bukkit over the weekend.

no one will have to move their work.

I'll make some of the first players moderators to keep an eye on griefers and the like when i'm not here.

I didn't log on for two days or so and suddenly there are structures everywhere. This is great!
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: clockworkjoe December 03, 2011, 03:15:51 AM
All right I have an idea for a RPPR event/game we can do on the minecraft server:

A Ferngully LARP/War
[/b]

Ferngully is about a group of hippie elves protecting a forest from a group of evil property developers. We can recreate that in Minecraft easily!

There will be two teams: elves and developers.

Elves want to protect the plantlife or failing that, plant new trees and plants in Ferngully. Tree houses are okay!

Developers want to tear down all the plant life and replace with stone or metal. Buildings would be great!

Neither team benefits from covering the area in lava or water or just digging down. This is a surface level fight.  You can dig tunnels below Ferngully but neither team will get points for

To the southwest of the main town there is a huge ass forest. I will designate a large chunk of it as Ferngully by marking its borders with bedrock (hooray being an admin!)

When the game starts, the entire area will be covered in trees and plant life.  For the next 3 or 7 days, the game will be on!

The rules

WHATEVER HAPPENS IN FERNGULLY STAYS IN FERNGULLY Anything goes in Ferngully! Kill your enemies, throw their shit into lava and so forth. Blow up their houses. Set up traps. Conversely, you cannot kill or do anything bad to the other team when they are outside Ferngully.

BUILDING OUTSIDE OF FERNGULLY: This is okay too. I will place Ferngully near the existing town so you won't far to go. Elves don't get points for trees outside Ferngully, only inside.

So what do you think? Who wants to be a guerilla hippie elf?

: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Tadanori Oyama December 03, 2011, 03:48:19 AM
I'm totally down for being a psycho faerie elf. You a-holes are gonna regret messing with these trees.
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Darksaw December 03, 2011, 04:04:33 AM
This sounds like it could be a lot of fun. I might be into it just for the opportunity to experiment with redstone traps.

EDIT: Wait can developers use a Flint and Steel? if so then this might be a little one sided.

Of all things to make me finally register and join the community, its the oppurtunity to be a guerilla hippie elf (Or an evil developer if there are too many elves)

remember, it's what left when the game ends. Trees can grow instantly with bone meal. I will put a rule banning flint and steel in the last hour of the battle so there won't be a fire raging when I call time.

Ill read this furngully idea in a bit, sorry dont have time too now, Just wanted to add Most of the north wall is done, and I started to check where the NE corner will be, if anyone wants to add to it go to thads pit, and behind it the lilly pad house, forget whos it is, i started the east wall there. its just a single high wall but its there as a marker. so if anyone wants to work on the wall its up to show where I think the end of the wall should be.

I want to see some pics when this madness is over. Always remember the first rule of internet gaming: Screenshot or it didn't happen.
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread

I want to see some pics when this madness is over. Always remember the first rule of internet gaming: Screenshot or it didn't happen.

That brings me to some new rules I thought of:

POINTS AND WINNING:

Every team will be judged by what they build and do during the LARP. Obviously most structures and gardens will be destroyed. HOWEVER, you will get points for everything you do and DOCUMENT for posterity.

Each screenshot or video must be accompanied by a short description - the 5 Ws and all that.

1 point per player kill that is recorded via screenshot
1 point per tree planted or destroyed documented by screenshot
2 points per tree planted or destroyed documented by video
10 points per kill that is recorded via video (FRAPS etc)
10 points per story of a structure that is documented by screenshot
25 points per story of a structure that is documented by a video walkthrough tour
10 points per story of a structure of the enemy that you destroy documented by screenshot
25 points per story of a structure of the enemy that you destroy that is documented by a video walkthrough tour
100 points for an epic video (my judgment)

I reserve the right to change point values but in general video is better than screenshot.

WINNING
I determine who wins. The winner will probably be the team that gets more points unless the other team buys like 100 copies of my book or something.

PRIZES
The winning team gets:

The Killsplosion preview AP episodes
Coupon for 30% off at the Zombies of the World store
Mention in the RPPR podcast - one shout out per player

The losing team gets:
The Killsplosion preview AP episodes

You only get the prizes if you contribute to the game - one screenshot or video minimum.

I'm not very good at being a cannibalistic elf (http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Elf), and Trees don't make me happy so Ill be a construction worker. BTW, wasn't it faeries in Furngully?
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: clockworkjoe December 04, 2011, 12:51:46 PM
eh whatever, fairies aren't any better http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairy_Meat

I want to run a test game first this week. I made a 55x55 arena southwest of town, just past the wall.

I need at least 4 people - 2 per team. I figure the test game will last 24 hours and I'll judge more loosely than I would for a week long game.

I need all players in when it starts but that's the only requirement. Who's in for and what's a good night for you? Thursday is off for me because that's when we run games.
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Boyos December 04, 2011, 03:56:51 PM
Friday is good for me. But I don't need to be in the test game, I normaly sleep from 7pm-10pm cause I go to work at 11pm. Sat-wends.  So I'm off Thursday and Friday.

19:42:22 <TimeStalker>      where is this at?
19:42:18 <TimeStalker>      i have a water bucket
19:41:59 <TadanoriOyama>    No bucket.
19:41:49 <TimeStalker>      cobble up
19:41:46 <TimeStalker>      how much lava are we talking here, cause you could water the top and then just clean the
19:41:36 <TadanoriOyama>    Worth a shot.
19:41:34 <Morbis>           Warning: May cause Doom
19:41:25 <Morbis>           It should fall through and put the rest out?
19:41:11 <Morbis>           Drop a sand at the top
19:41:09 <j_train1>         we can make him, better ,stronger, faster!
19:41:06 <Morbis>           Use the power of sand
19:41:02 <TadanoriOyama>    Are these fucking source blocks of lava?!
19:40:53 <Morbis>           We can rebuild, we have the technology
19:40:51 <TadanoriOyama>    It's no going down...
19:40:32 <j_train1>         we all just have to think 'happy' thoughts.
19:40:19 <Gathandreal>      or samuri jack
19:40:10 <j_train1>         just like Peter Pan.
19:40:06 <Morbis>           Just jump good

19:39:10 <Morbis>           Doesnt seem like something you would do, your not generally that much of a jackass :p
19:38:51 <Gathandreal>      can i just ask if i'm a suspect?
19:38:33 <Morbis>           You should be able to see who logged on
19:38:26 <Morbis>           And someone saying 'Whats with all the Lava'
19:38:19 <Morbis>           If you look at who logged in between me saying 'I am going into the Nether'
19:38:03 <clockworkjoe>     yeah
19:37:58 <Morbis>           Does the server log chat/logins?
19:37:57 <Gathandreal>      do that include me?
19:37:44 <Morbis>           To when we heard about the lava
19:37:40 <Morbis>           You know, like, only 3 or so people logged on for long enough from when I was in the nether-
19:36:51 <yourepicend>      k
19:36:42 <Morbis>           Nope, still there
19:36:35 <yourepicend>      did you put out lava in the west inn
19:36:27 <j_train1>         No lava is a tool. People are evil
19:36:13 <Link1329>         that was suprisingly low damage..
19:36:13 <Morbis>           Lava is evil
19:35:58 <Morbis>           I meant AAAAAAGES
19:35:53 <Morbis>           When I said takes ages
19:35:46 <TadanoriOyama>    Fuckin'...
19:35:38 <Morbis>           Run away!
19:35:23 <yourepicend>      i think i fell into the grand canyon
19:35:19 <Morbis>           Creeper in your house
19:35:15 <Morbis>           Careful joe
19:35:02 <Morbis>           Creeper
19:34:36 <TadanoriOyama>    Capped the fucker. I think.
19:34:30 <TadanoriOyama>    There.
19:33:10 <Morbis>           Yup
19:33:05 <wolfwoodster>     People invest a lot of time in it. Griefers are assholes.
19:33:03 <Link1329>         Oh, awesome. Thank You whoever built the nether tunnel to the spawn.
19:32:53 <Gathandreal>      lol
19:32:47 <Morbis>           Minecraft is serious buisiness :p
19:32:36 <wolfwoodster>     Stupid creepers blowin' up mah stuffs.
19:32:36 <Gathandreal>      yes that
19:32:30 <wolfwoodster>     And make creepers not damage environment >.>
19:32:19 <Link1329>         All possible solutions
19:32:16 <Morbis>           That and TnT
19:32:09 <wolfwoodster>     *nodnod*
19:32:04 <Morbis>           The best way tends to be to use bucket and restrict lava buckets to mods
19:31:57 <Gathandreal>      cant you just white list it
19:31:48 <wolfwoodster>     Got buckets?
19:31:41 <yourepicend>      get pword
19:31:38 <yourepicend>      its it possible to password the server so only forum visitors ccan come in or have to visit forum to
19:31:38 <wolfwoodster>     You can also just douse it.
19:31:24 <TimeStalker>      if i wasnt so far away i'd come and try to help
19:31:23 <wolfwoodster>     yeah. Best to wall it, then fill in.
19:31:15 <Morbis>           And it takes ages to go away by itself
19:31:02 <Morbis>           You can spread a single lava source for ages
19:30:54 <TimeStalker>      yeah
19:30:47 <Morbis>           For each verticle it hits it can flow 4
19:30:43 <wolfwoodster>     More if it's got vertical room.
19:30:29 <TimeStalker>      lava can flow like 4 blocks
19:30:24 <Link1329>         Lava flows.
19:30:23 <Morbis>           The rest is reflow
19:30:18 <Gathandreal>      not if there was no one there to notice
19:30:18 <Morbis>           I can see maybe 6 source blocks
19:30:11 <Morbis>           Those arent source blocks
19:30:07 <clockworkjoe>     without anyone noticing?
19:30:03 <clockworkjoe>     no one person could have put this much lava out?
19:29:53 <wolfwoodster>     A griefer...
19:29:52 <Morbis>           Its not a hack, the blocks you are putting down are reflowing the lava
19:29:46 <clockworkjoe>     but how else do you explain this
19:29:41 <clockworkjoe>     i;m not sure
19:29:26 <Gathandreal>      how does one "hack" a minecraft server
19:29:16 <Morbis>           The lava your hitting right now?
19:29:06 <clockworkjoe>     its appearing right before my eyes
19:29:00 <clockworkjoe>     someone is hacking the server
19:28:54 <TadanoriOyama>    Damn man, Darksaw's place looks wrecked.
19:27:11 <TimeStalker>      oh
19:27:06 <Morbis>           It did, but the fire seems to be coming from the other direction
19:26:59 <yourepicend>      used to
19:26:54 <TimeStalker>      does it have a fireplace?
19:26:37 <Morbis>           I mean it is actively on fire
19:26:28 <yourepicend>      yah my bed was there:(
19:26:16 <Morbis>           The inn appears to be nurning down as we speak
19:26:08 <Morbis>           Erm
19:25:44 <Morbis>           This is the reason a lot of servers ban lava
19:25:36 <Morbis>           Yeah
19:25:30 <yourepicend>      oh upsetting
19:25:03 <TadanoriOyama>    The hobo-hotel is mostly intact so anybody with stuff there, it looks okay.
19:24:47 <Morbis>           Not many people have logged on/off since then
19:24:38 <Morbis>           It wasnt like that ~2 and a half hours ago
19:24:34 <yourepicend>      it was fine around 11pm central last night i think thats when i logged out
19:24:33 <TadanoriOyama>    I just saw the post on the forum, figured somebody jump on and messed with us.
19:24:13 <TadanoriOyama>    No idea.
19:24:12 <TimeStalker>      whats goin on?
19:24:04 <clockworkjoe>     wtf how is this happening
19:23:27 <TadanoriOyama>    God man, this was alot of damage.
19:23:14 <wolfwoodster>     'cause ... that would completely destroy my stuff ^^;

idk who did but it motivated me to install bukkit. now to install plugins.

Looks like my house took the least amount of damage. The only thing I can see is that the basement area looked like a creeper ran through it.  I did have a box waiting for me from Toxic Explosion with two Diamonds in it.

Edit: Sorry to all if anything from my lava flows may have contributed to providing our griefer with ammunition.

Ferngully idea, All people playing can not have anything on them when they enter Ferngully, Developers get a box of supplies like 5 Iron Pics, 5 Iron axes, and 5 leather armor. Elfs get 5 Wood axes, 5 Wood Picks, and to even the odds, get 5 bows and 100 arrows.

Because It wouldn't be fair If I showed up with my diamond pic and axe and just start demoing the place with a full 1000 obsidian bricks and building up houses. This way have a set amount of stuff you can use and start with. so no outside of ferngully items aloud in the game.

thats a good idea but that's impossible to police.

Obsidian is a bit too hard to get rid of since diamond is rare on the server. No obsidian. If I see obsidian, I'll destroy it and award no points.

eh. I'd prefer something that can be watched more effectively. If I find out how to ban items from certain classes of players maybe I could enact that on players - prevent elves from using iron weapons at all or developers from using bows at all. but I dont know how to do that.

I don't even know what the hell they did to my house. Huge sections are missing and half of the trees are leaf-less. I'd guess lava but my little pond isn't filled with cobblestone and there wasn't any lava anywhere when I logged on. That shit doesn't just vanish. On the other hand, I guess you could get the same results with liberal use of flint and steel...

Anyway, Tree Village is under repair.

Yeah honor code is what I was going for, and I only ment it for starting, so if the elfs find diamond ore, or iron they can use it still just start with wood gear to kinda rp the fact they were not ready to be invaded.

I think Ross was running arround outing out the lava, so that may be why you dont have any any more.

The lava wouldn't just disappear though, there's either be cobblestone if he used water or big piles of other blocks if he sealed it off. The more I think about it the more likely it was normal fire... or a hurricane.

mmm IDK, I do know there are some areas that do have big piles of cobble stone set up on them, like the north side of the main fort there's cobble stone out there. but idk.

BTW I wont be on Friday, ill be out of town. so wont be able to do any of the play testing if we do it this Friday.
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Tadanori Oyama December 05, 2011, 01:45:01 PM
North of the fort we had a ton of lava, no surprises there. I build to the east.

Mostly it's just a time thing, I have to plant new trees and wait for them to grow (or figure out this bonemeal thing, I have no idea how that works).

And, to let anybody who didn't hear know, the hobo-hotel is mostly intacted so anything you left in the room chests should still be fine.

And lo, let it be known far and wide. For his admirable work in the saving of the Church from the fires of hell itself, The Church of Generic God #1 shall now be known as The Church of St. Payton.

The Church of St. Payton is renowned for it holy pews, from which it is rumoured that worshippers can hear the calls of the angels themselves. Rumours of devil worship amongst the churches clergy have been denied vehemently by Chaplain Morbis, however tales abound amongst the locals of blood magic and witchcraft. Perhaps it is not the call of angels that permeate the hallowed halls of St. Paytons, but those of much darker creatures.

Wolfster...
I logged in around 915am est and you tree house was on fire. I don't know if it was a griefer or lighting strike. I put out what I could ,but the majority of it is burnt.

Ok,mostly likely it was a griefer for every major wooden structure is burnt down. will try to rebuild later tonight.

Ross you need to install world guard/edit module so we can prevent all this.

My Church was also hit. Not that much damage, but enough. Unfortunately, I do not really feel like building when at any time it can just be torn down. As such me and Wolf will probably be on our way. Moderators: use /pex promote PLAYERNAME to promote someone or /pex demote PLAYERNAME

BTW the moderators at least I assume I'm in that slot we don't get attacked by mobs any more could we have that fixed haha.

Also I finished the wall around the East, West, and South sides now. They look pretty good. I could add a wall to the north side but with the ocean there I figured I would leave it open. Do you want me to start putting torches inside the perimeter to keep mobs from spawning inside the wall? I Put torches across the top of the wall to prevent mobs from jumping down on us.

I'm using Permissions Ex http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/admn-dev-permissionsex-pex-v1-16-tomorrow-is-today-1337.18140/

I used this tutorial to set up permissions https://github.com/t3hk0d3/PermissionsEx/wiki/Basic-Permissions-Setup

If someone can figure out what I need to do to give moderators the ability to promote people let me know and I'll be happy to do it. I'll try to figure it out on my own as well but I'm not an expert.

I'm thinking moderators need this  permissions.user.promote.<ladder> (https://github.com/t3hk0d3/PermissionsEx/wiki/Commands) added to there group. in order to promote, and permissions.user.demote.<ladder> to demote, its at the bottom of the linked page.

I know how that is. :( I was preparing to move my stuff somewhere else, so I was carrying my diamond tools, my obsidian and a bunch of other stuff and just getting the last few blocks for a portal, then got pushed into lava by water. All my fault but it sucked nonetheless.

first Ferngully game provided good feedback. I have found the site for the second game. I need to prep it first though. It's a large island.  Coordinates are x -700 and z 2317 approximately.

The elves will get a camp/spawn point with chests filled with:

saplings
bone meal
leather armor
wooden picks
bows
arrows
wood
dirt
torches

The developers will get a camp with:

stone
stone picks
torches
limited iron armor (they are capitalists so it's too expensive to give everyone iron armor)
tnt
flint and steel

I'll change permissions so that elves aren't attacked by monsters

the developers spawn point will be much farther from Ferngully than the elves

The elves will be able to ask the gods (i.e me) for rain once.

new contest/ongoing event:

Share your creations on the RPPR minecraft server!

Post screenshots of your buildings/castles/etc. I'll compile them and do a post on RPPR sharing them with the world. Then we'll have a vote for the single best creation on the server. Mods not eligible for this vote.

Winner gets a PDF of Zombies of the World.

Also - the new version of Minecraft has jungle biomes but you have to generate a new world to get them. Jungles would be perfect for Ferngully but I don't want to destroy everyone's work :\

Hey all. Finally moved a step beyond lurking in the shadows and actually registered. Ross mentioned a screenshot contest, but I haven't seen any entries yet. My fort isn't very imaginative, but it's impenetrable by mobs and took some time to build.

Also, if you're looking for server mods, try Runecraft (and no, it's not based on runescape; there are a hundred of those). It's server-side only; no need for everyone to mod their files. Someone on youtube has his own series of video tutorials on stuff you can do with the mod here (http://www.youtube.com/user/CtritheRunecrafter). The Minecraft Forum post for Runecraft is here (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/26803-softwarepluginbukkit-runecraft-211-11/).

That's a classy fortress. :D

Anyway, please post any serverside mods you want me to install.

Thinking about resetting the world at some point so we can liven things up/try jungle biomes and/or new mods like Tekkit.

What do you guys think?

If I do, I will create a .zip with the current world saved that you can download so your work won't be destroyed. You'll be able to play it in single player mode.

Thanks, Ross.

In my noobish fumblings, I encountered a hissing armless green guy, and as it turns out those guys are made of explosives. It damaged the rails near Forest Station. I filled in the hole he left but I don't yet know how to fix the cart track.

I started an excavation not far from there. If I've encroached on someone's territory (Jon), I'll gladly move my project elsewhere.

With your server update you took all the commands away, therefore you can't set 'home' or 'nuke' for example.

By the Way I have found 6 villages so far on the server world. They are listed on signposts in the Village Station of the Rail line.

If you haven't already (I haven't checked), I would like permissions too.  And if it's not too game breaking, whatever that thing was that made creepers ignore you would be nice (though that kind of seems like cheating and may have to be server-wide, in which case, not too big a deal)...

I decided to try running the backup through the map renderer Tectonicus. The software is still not updated to read mca files but the backup also had the mcr files from before the 1.2 patch.

and... we have a lot of chunks to render, 3 hours so far, and on 98808 of 201725 chunks... and then it has to downsize them for multiple zoom levels oi

it makes a google maps of your minecraft level basically, able to zoom in and see it in high level.

Does night and cave renders too, and if a server file shows everyone's last logoff point with an icon based off their minecraft skin

: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread

Alright, it's sucked me in. I'm so addicted.

I've got a crappy wooden house and a stone mining shack on one of the tundra islands. I've enclosed the whole landmass in a wall 3 blocks high. I'm still going to build an overhang, but otherwise it is complete.

My larger plan is to build a city dedicated to the deity that made my Minecraft life possible, ClockworkJoe. Without his endless bounty, I'd have long ago been consumed by the creatures of the night. Eventually, through our dedicated toil, we can a erect a burning metropolis dedicated to our Lord Admin.

I shall personally begin construction soon. All are welcome to contribute their labor to the living testimony of our Lord. A series of laws shall be instituted within the city. Violations of these laws will result in angering our Lord.

--No Theft
--Wanton destruction of property is sacrilege.
--No admin. building. The false gods may contribute resources to those toiling in service of their better if they so wish, but buildings constructed within the city by these rouge flying deities will be considered BLASPHEMY.
--Once the Zombie Church is constructed, all effort is to be made to spare the holy undead by kiting them to our special underground storage container. To die in the attempt is divine martyrdom to our Lord.

Other commandments shall be issued as revelations are bestowed. TOGETHER, WE SHALL ERECT A CITY ON A HILL, AN EXAMPLE FOR ALL TO SEE.

well here is the magnet link (copy and paste into your browser should work)
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:zi4sjyoo5ueacwyrvpqlkx24j3um7h3f&dn=ZaWurldoRender&xl=106426891569&fc=145 (http://magnet:?xt=urn:btih:zi4sjyoo5ueacwyrvpqlkx24j3um7h3f&dn=ZaWurldoRender&xl=106426891569&fc=145)

if that does not work, I have uploaded a torrent file to here http://kat.ph/zawurldorender-t6268416.html

I will do my best to make sure the seeding stays on.

And this is pretty big I admit. 90+ GB here, and that is with using 7zip on its max compression.

in all reality downloading tectonicus from minecraft forums and doing a render would probably be faster than downloading this, but hey with enough peers who knows.

Was looking at one of those scaling things (http://htwins.net/scale2/), and what blew my mind a little was this:

Apparently Minecraft worlds are MASSIVE, as in larger than the surface area of the world...

May or may not be true, but if so, wow...

EDIT:  According to Minecraft Wiki, this is roughly the right scale.  Also, the Far Lands (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Far_Lands) are super surreal sounding.  Just reading the page was weird and a little nightmare-fuely.  I think in general computer breakdowns can produce some weird stuff...

Well to make matters worse I discovered yet another untouched abandoned mine on my little island...

This has to be the single largest abandoned mineshaft I have ever seen, I mean we explored that for what 2 hours and it just kept going. Now if we only had a server mod that would allow us to teleport between two locations by building teleporters and waypoints... I would be back down there in a heartbeat.

Yeah, sounds like a really cool concept and there's nothing like some 16-bit computer programming action to spice up game play!

The only knock is the monthly multi-player charge, although if you're renting a Minecraft server, that charge shouldn't come as a huge shock!

Random question:  Where is the default spawn?  I got lost and can't find my way back to my island... :(

EDIT: Never mind, found it...

So apparently if I go into a nether portal I built, and then exit through the same portal, it transports me about 400 blocks in the x direction and 900 in the z...

Doens't that occur because someone else built that nether portal in the outworld too close to yours?

So apparently if I go into a nether portal I built, and then exit through the same portal, it transports me about 400 blocks in the x direction and 900 in the z...

Doens't that occur because someone else built that nether portal in the outworld too close to yours?

That's what I thought, but clearly they aren't THAT close...
Check the X and z coordinates inside and outside of the nether on a portal that is properly set up, then check outside your portal, and then do the conversion, and find that spot in the nether. Then build a portal there and it should work (can't say for sure, as i have only really built a portal in single player.)

Edit: I missed this. The link to the wiki explains it better than I did.

http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Nether_Portal

The implication notes of the portal linkage section says you need a 1000 block clearance between portals in the outworld :(

Just a heads up to anyone living south of the starting area. A railway system will soon be penetrating the nether, with one station at the spawn portal in the desert and one at the end of the line. I'm laying the second line of cobblestone down already, so if anyone wants me to incorporate a sheltered way point or stopover near their portal, I'd need the coordinates to incorporate it into the build.

Otherwise, it's going to just be a straight shot above land and lava. :P

As a heads up, someone had set some TNT under the doors to the Ross temple (in the desert), and I have sprung the trap while hiding from some zombies. The remains are in a chest in the crater. I would check the other doors before using them.

In other news, i have set off for parts unknown, so my prior home (dark wood shack leading down to a ravine) is up for whatever looting whoever finds it feels is appropriate.

New Arcadia's Pc graveyard is open and awaiting your dead. Got a deceased character you wish to bury well come on in. Situated opposite New Arcadia tower and not too far from the Great old one inn.

Each Pc gets a 1X3 plot There must be at least be one block between the other graves. Head stones can be made of any stone or ore you wish. They can be tall as you desire but are not allowed to touch other head stones or the wall.

Return to MineCraft RPPR Server Journal; Day #1

My bed is gone. As I passed beyond the digital line the world restructured itself around me. Below me, if space still held meaning, I glimpsed a Creeper raising it's eyes towards me. All was black and then I stood amid a steaming jungle. When I had last been here this had been a fortress, a bastion of civilization on a temperate inland coast. After I gained by bearings I caught sight of a roadway, constructed high in the trees. Remembering old thoughts of my own tree bound village I rejoiced but my hopes where dashed. The path was massive, the trees dozens of meters tall, and constructed in a method beyond my own skills at the time.

Where had I landed?

I traveled the jungle's sky ways, which split on many levels, sometimes forced to leap down from great heights to make for lower paths. In the distance I spied a grand structure of glowstone and glass. When at last the jungle ended I stumbled forward on injured legs only to find a ruin. Buildings, half finished or half destroyed, I could not tell, and a grand arena suspended over a pool of lava. Injured, hungry, and lost I flopped my body onto one of the beds, presumably last occupied by a poor fool who had burned to death in the arena, and lost consciousness as a rain began to wash over the ruined village.

((I don't want help, I think this is actually kind of awesome. I'm going to try to find my way back to civilization.))
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Moondog July 15, 2012, 12:09:26 AM

Return to MineCraft RPPR Server Journal; Day #2

I awake to find myself still within the ruins. Lacking options I took stock of my situation. Many dangerous creatures might call these ruins and the area around them home. I took time to pull loose a large amount of clay from the river bed and coated my body with it, hopefully rendering me less visible to the creatures.

Once out of the ruins I spotted a light on a hill top. Instead of the survivors I hoped for I instead found an abandoned quarry, a gray wound in the woods. Wooden platforms conveyed water about the area for some unknown purpose. I was amazed to discover the machines functioned and, after closing the flood gates, I explored the wash pits. A great deal of iron ore was present and I took the chance to gather it.

In the woods near the quarry I discovered a small gully and began to build a shelter within it. A crude forge I crafted from loose stones, in which I left the iron to smelt. The sun grows low and I huddle behind my wooden walls with only a few torches and my forge for comforting light.

Return to MineCraft RPPR Server Journal; Day #3

Hours spent wandering the surrounding woods yielded little. The animals in this area appear to be malnourished, I was unable to find even a scrap of editable meat on either of the two hogs I managed to bring down. After some travel I managed to trap a small flock of ducks. Stocked with meat for a time I secured my simple base and traveled out along the coast. I did not have to go far before I sighted another glass structure: a massive enclosure of exotic plants and creatures. By leaping from a nearby hill I was able to ascend the enclosure and the castle beyond. I found myself in a settlement of some kind but was unable to go down to the lower floors due to a pack of massive jungle apes wandering the grounds.

As night fell I ran through tunnels and passages, fleeing the rising dead. At last I discovered a fleet of empty ships, beached in a shallow bay. Beyond these what I at first believed to be a light house but, upon passing it, found it to be a massive idol. At the base a sign delcared it to "Ross", some sort of ancient deity perhaps. It seems that the lack of people and the masses of dead I am currently fleeing in my life from is the result of unholy rituals in dedication to this god.

In light of this revelation I have fled the city by boat, crossing the inland sea and setting ashore near a massive farm. For security I have established a bunker at the edge of a lush jungle, in which I believe I can evade the dead who likely still follow me. Layered stone, covered with plants from the jungle this bunker will be my new base from which I will seek other survivors, possibly others who fled whatever curse settled over the strange country which worshiped "Ross".

I know some of you are worried about griefers/vandals. So far, it hasn't been a real problem but I don't have the time or minecraft admin skills to implement complex anti-griefing solutions. I do have the server logs though so if you know when your stuff gets vandalized, I will know who was online when it happened. So keep an eye on your stuff and at least mention in the chat if you get vandalized - as the chats get saved in the log.

Alternatively if one of the long time players has great minecraft admin skillz, we could give you admin access.

Speaking of my stuff, at about 13x, -405 z, I have built a somewhat grand hotel; the rooms are largely done, but the foyer (2nd floor) and the main lobby feel far too empty to me for my liking.

If anyone wants to come and check it out, do some decorating or post some ideas, I'd appreciate it. I'm drawin' a blank.

Oh, and there'll be food there to make up for the long trip. Feel free.

My faithfulness to our Lord Payton has been rewarded (as it ever would) with ascension into godhood. I shall still build New Arcadia in dedication to his glory, as all who wish to achieve the rewards of the faithful should, but I no longer need the petty accessories  my weak flesh once did.

All structures in the holy city were ripped from the living stone by my suffering mortal hands, and to destroy such works would be blasphemy to our one true Lord. Such affronts will be met with exquisite, divine savagery.

All items in chests, however, are no longer needed, as future building materials will be manifested out of His most celestial essence alone.

So, you know, if you need rocks and stuff, feel free to drop by and take some.

P.S. Feel free to build some stuff. No zoning in New Arcadia. Rearden steel.

I can get a scaffold up without any issues, just not sure how to make it strobe.

There, put a ladder up to the area, and a semi-safe scaffold up for anyone willing to give it a look to get up there. Also a chest of materials that should/might be necessary.
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Tadanori Oyama July 18, 2012, 07:19:45 PM
In basic theory it isn't difficult, you just need some repeaters. In this case we'll need scaffolding to get the line In this case we just need a few repeaters between the letters. Can you believe I spent the last couple of minutes trying to think of how to get the stuff from the ground up? We just need to build it in the sky next to the sign and make sure it's small enoug not to be noticed.

Hey, this is gonna wreck my journal a little but can I get a teleport from an admin to help out with this thing?

Also, I have a plan for a new feature for New Arcadia: maze dungeon. It'll be awesome! However, I am going to need about 4,096 cobblestone blocks to get started laying the ground work.

Also, I have a plan for a new feature for New Arcadia: maze dungeon. It'll be awesome! However, I am going to need about 4,096 cobblestone blocks to get started laying the ground work.

I can't do any teleporting, but the cobble blocks are easily given. Lemme know when you're on, and I'll see if I can't find a nearby nether portal to your current location, to take you to the Hotel area.

Also, I really appreciate it.

I just need to know which way to go and I'll be happy to make my way towards you. Like I said, I found a huge statue of "Ross" awhile back. Does that landmark do any good?

: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Tadanori Oyama July 19, 2012, 05:08:19 PM
Which way is it from the hotel to get to New Arcadia?

Also, finished the number crunching for Phase 2 of my plan. It will require 1048576 cobblestone blocks.

I'm gonna need 698756 to keep as regular cobblestone (less the initial 4,096) plus 360000 to make stone; 10000 of which will become stone brick.

That means I need to bake 16384, 5625 stacks of which will need to be baked.
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Moondog July 19, 2012, 05:45:19 PM
Take the portal behind the hotel. Follow the path until you see the two steel doors. That'll take you there.

OVERLAND ROUTE: Head to x-320, Z - 69

Edit: That is too much damn cobblestone, broseph.

: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Moondog July 26, 2012, 12:25:29 PM
So. I'm building a temple.

It will require 92,672 blocks, not including a roof. Or floor.

MAYBE IT'S A BIT ON THE 'LARGE' SCALE OF THINGS.

Bukkit takes a while to update. Usually 24 or so hours.

: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: j_train1 August 02, 2012, 08:30:56 PM
Bukkit is working hand in hand with Mojang therefore the Bukkit release should be at the same time as the update. Ross isn't using Bukkit he is using some other Permission pack, that just has some simple commands, but keeps the permissions to him only.

just do what everyone else does - march out for an hour in a random direction. It's only built up around the main spawn. Plenty of space.

Anyone want to tell a Minecraft noob how to make bright lighting? Where do I find that glowstone stuff?
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Tadanori Oyama October 13, 2012, 01:49:43 PM
The Nether. You punch glowstone and them make the glowdust into new glowstone. There's portals all around New Arcadia that'd let you get into the Nether but if you left it you'll need to find Obsidian to build your own (which also means finding Diamonds to make a diamond pick).
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Dawnsteel October 13, 2012, 04:58:25 PM
Oh, so that's what you do with obsidian. I have some diamond tools, and I had some obsidian in my old place, but I didn't take it with me. Haven't uncovered any in the new excavation; I'm sure I will though.

: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread

Does anybody know anything about setting up/building a server from an old computer?  I'm thinking about running a server off of my laptop (don't use it anymore, seen mixed reviews on whether or not to use the laptop, but no real explanation on why) or an old tower sitting in my closet.  Any help on this would be cool, especially if it could end up being powerful enough to host a number of people (since it would be essentially free?).  But again I have no real idea on a lot of this, so I could be completely off...
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Tadanori Oyama October 21, 2012, 03:01:01 PM
Okay, I've got the raw materials to finish the border of the dungeon. I had to mine out a mountain on the corner to get them but I got them. By the end of this weekend (maybe) the New Arcadia Dungeon will be surveyed.
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: Tadanori Oyama October 22, 2012, 12:30:51 AM
At least! The border of the dungeon has been laid. Any individuals enveloped by the dungeon have had a notice posted on their homes. They can report to the civic planning office in New Arcadia regarding their new rights and duties as residents of the Dungeon Distract.

I ended up getting a ton of bionomes inside of the thing... I'm considering changing the concept from "dungeon" to "Hunger Games style arena".
: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread
: SageNytell October 22, 2012, 03:03:10 PM
Clearly the only correct answer is "dungeon with Hunger Games-style arena overtop". Should be fun to explore when you're all done, if you end up with a big arena we could try to get a few folks on for our own little Hunger Games.  8)

: Re: RPPR Minecraft Thread

Thanks to whoever did the under stones on the dungeon wall.

Anyone who has spare time is welcome to build up the outer walls. They need to be built to a height of 5 blocks the whole way around eventually. Also feel free to throw cobblestone into the chest by the construction area.

The weather in the game matches me weather in real life: rain and lightning.

I tried Technic for the first time, used the launcher they had for it (made it really easy). It's different. I feel like I'm learn to play the game all over again. Survival mode feels really dangerous when lions and tigers will actually attack you during the day. And scorpions. Giant scoprions that come out at night. Just... fuck.
