RPPR directly:

The Heretic Cycle
Monsters and Other Childish Things
Call of Cthulhu
Eclipse Phase
Road Trip
Don't Rest Your Head
That 4E module pack from Goodman Games
A pile of Gamescience dice

House of Leaves
The Atrocity Archives
The Jennifer Morgue
The Fuller Memorandum
The Apocalypse Codex
Accelerando
Halting State
Rule 34
Don't Read This Book

And, by association with the forums, my encounters with Tadanori Oyama led me to purchase:
Dark Heresy
Deathwatch
...and a mess of other supplements.

Well-spent, no regrets. I just wish I had a group to play with.

WHAT!?

The only way Ross is related to Time Lords is that he's an even bigger monster on the inside.

Oh, also:

-Roadside Picnic
-And, uh... a bunch of others. But that one's in my sight line, because I brought it with me to China.

There's an entire series of "Shadows over..." books so you may have heard of us talk about one and then pick up another.

Oh, let's see, just a few:
-Book of Unremitting Horror (I do like me some monster manuals, doesn't matter the game. I have to say this has some of the best, and disturbing, creatures ever. A little modification, and it can really be adaptable to a number of settings. Jeez, there is some fucked up stuff in that book.)
-Horror Recognition Guide (More inspiration, and a great read. This has me wanting to play Hunter: The Vigil pretty badly.)
-Eclipse Phase(I really was going to get it anyway, but after hearing the actual plays on RPPR, I now have to own every Eclipse Phase book that will ever come out, like ever.)
-Night's Black Agents(I actually haven't got it yet, but I most definitely will.)
-Come to think of it, I'll probably pick up Shadows of Esteren at some point.
-The Laundry, both the RPG, and also The Atrocity Archives.
-Zombies of the World, Kindle edition.

Bought:
Eclipse Phase: all the hardcopies & Rimward PDF

And since that list is pretty short, already had:
CoC
Delta Green
TMNT & Other Strangenesses
D&D 4e
Dark Sun

I have bought and played Call of Cthulhu pretty much entirely because of RPPR.  The Actual Plays changed my impression of it from "Paranoia with evil monsters" to something interesting and compelling.

: Great Scott! October 16, 2012, 10:08:33 PM
RPPR is what turned me onto Roleplaying and Lovecraft actually, so my list is all of my role-playing items and Lovecraft literature.

1. COC
2. Delta Green (Signed by Adam Scott Glancy)
3. Delta Green Eyes Only
4. A Dirty World
5. Mask of Nyarlathotep
6. Strange Eons (A book of scenarios for COC)
7. Caleb's No Security
8. All Flesh Must Be Eaten
9. One of the Living
10. All of Ross' books, except Curriculum of Conspiracy and Road Trip
11. Eclipse Phase
12. The Laundry Files
13. Mount and Blade (All three)
14. 4 or 5 Books of Lovecraft
15. Tickets to the Lovecraft Film Festival last May where I met Mr. Glancy! (I told him that RPPR turned me onto Pagan Publishing         and he said he was gonna send you guys a fruit basket or something)

RPPR single handedly is responsible for me being a table-top role-player.

4. Pantheon and Other Role Playing Games (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pantheon_(role-playing_game))

5. This one may be a stretch, but the Twokinds (http://twokinds.keenspot.com) Kickstarters they've had because if it wasn't for hearing it mentioned on RPPR I wouldn't have got into the webcomic.
: Re: What have you bought because of the podcast?

when did we mention two kinds? I don't remember ever seeing that web comic. Did Tom recommend it?
: Re: What have you bought because of the podcast?

It's a furry comic and Tom Church is one of us so yes, he's probably the one who mentioned it.

I've actually gotten in to gaming because of the podcast.

When I was in high school, I gave the 6d version of The Star Wars Role Playing Game a try, but none of us really knew what we were doing. After a couple of sessions, we called it quits. Flash forward to this year, and I downloaded the Slenderman actual plays while I was home sick. These sessions got me through three days of illness. I was hooked. I think you can attribute everything I've purchased so far to the RPPR podcast. And I'm itching to try out Fear Itself.

I can't remember if I posted this but I bought FTL and Dungeons of Dreadmor thanks to the Video game thread here on the forums. Oh and Killing Floor, also in somewhere either in the podcast or on the forums someone mentioned that you can consume the creators of Delta Green on Prototype. I bought it and loved playing it.

I watched the movie Rubber, and the show Black Books because of the Podcast.

I tried 4th Edition DnD after the New World campaign proved to me you could do a good story telling based game in the system.

The list is pretty substantial... seeing as I've listening for about 3 years now.

If i may add an additional, if slightly sobering, part to this thread - What have you bought AND played/ran because of the Podcast?

I only ask because since listening to the podcast back in 2009 I've bought-

Of all of the above I have run/played -

Tbh This is more of a cathartic exercise for me.

Edit - Tell a lie, Ross ran a Monsters Skype game a while ago for one of his kickstarters so that counts.
: Re: What have you bought because of the podcast?
: Tim February 24, 2013, 07:56:43 PM
Just (as in 5 minutes ago) purchased the Quiet Year after listening to the podcast. I have always been a bit of a map nerd and some of the reason I think I run games is to make maps. This is far from an uncommon position in the gaming community so I think they will have a far bit of people interested. I also crave the communal storytelling aspect that a good RPG has which this game also very much seems to foster.

I did not see any info on their site about con schedules but I hope they make it GenCon and host some games.

: Atlas February 24, 2013, 08:26:48 PM
I've bought:
- Eclipse Phase
- Call of Cthulhu
- Wild Talents

- and backed a few of Ross' Kickstarters

I've at least ran a single one shot of each game so I guess my purchases were worth it.  :P

Yeah that's the real problem so far. They like the idea of making their own monsters (I told them its a little like Wild Talents character creation) but they have pretty much zero interest in playing children

I am also considering purchase of Nights Black Agents but my wife makes fun of me when I buy games that I will never run even though I like to read them so we shall see if I can live with the ridicule.

I am fortunate in that a) my wife is also a gamer (and even a DM now!), and b) even if she weren't she would never criticize my purchase of games I'll probably never play. We're both collectors--of books (RPG books too, in my case), music, videos, and in her case, fabric and patterns that she may or may not ever get around to using.

If I can afford it, and I want to buy it, it's fine by her. (And vice versa.) No justification required.
: Re: What have you bought because of the podcast?
: Tim May 30, 2013, 11:12:29 PM
It is mostly just gentle ribbing but we are trying to have less stuff in our life so try to not purchase physical goods if it can be avoided. I use to love having books around me but now I tend to see them as loading me down. Been trying to downsize down to only those books i have some emotional connection to. We both still have way to many books as the people who assisted in our last move will attest but we are trying. The proliferation of PDFs has helped out in that regard quite a bit as pretty much all new purchases have been via PDF.

Anyway I will likely purchase Nights and hopefully even get a chance to run it.

My current PDF (hardbacks are expensive, yo) collection that I accmiulated as a direct result of RPPR stands at:
- Fear Itself
- Call of Cthulhu
- Monsters and other Childish Things

I'm going to see about grabbing Zombies and Eclipse Phase when I am less poor and peasant-y, though that might be after I graduate and find myself without any friends a gaming group...

I recommend getting Zombies of the World first. It's cheaper and therefore better! Also, pic unrelated (or is it????)

I was about to go to bed, too... :c

Another recent purchase that wasn't directly because of the podcast was the "Mysterious Places" supplement for the World of Darkness (though it's usable in just about any horror-themed system). Some pretty cool ideas for settings in there. However, I bought it because your Arcadia Signal episode got me itching to try to run another horror game with my flatmates, so it still totally counts. I have, in no way, derailed this thread.

I got Monster and Other Childish Things and Dreadful Secrets of Candlewick Manor because of the podcast, as well as A Dirty World. So lots of One Roll Engine. The podcast might have been part of my decision to actually get Gumshoe stuff too.

I just bought Fear Itself(and started buying WWI/II historical books, because of the ASG games), a game I'd not even considered until hearing actual play featuring the system.

While I haven't bought anything yet, I want to get some of the FATE and GUMSHOE system games: Spirit of the Century, Trail of Cthulhu, and, of course, Night's Black Agents. Also, I plan on grabbing Base Raiders and the POD version of No Security once that's available and I have the cash for it all! Damn you bills, sapping all my RPG money.

Eclipse Phase core book.

I would buy more, but my local games store (comic store with a rack of RPGs, really) only had EP, Rifts, and D&D. Not even 4e, but the reprints of AD&D and 3.5.

And the third doctor sourcebook for Doctor Who.

The other local games store carries D&D, Pathfinder, and some weird hero system expansions. At least they sell dice, unlike the other place.

I might have to start buying online, but I want to support local retailers.

Hard copy of Eclipse Phase (which is almost unheard of for me, physical is backsliding!), every Kickstarter siiince, uh, Killsplosion, I think? And I've bought a couple of Greg Stolze's things--mostly fiction, I think?--because RPPR's reminded me to look him up. I grabbed Sense of the Sleight of Hand Man I thhhink after it was discussed on the talk podcast. Was it RPPR that talked about De Profundis, the epistolary Mythos game? That was a recent buy, too. And The Devotees, of course, instantly. I thought about backing the latest Transhuman kickstarter, but Ross and Caleb said they'd already gotten their freelancer bonus, so I was frugal for once instead. And looking at my DriveThruRPG...hey, I bought Better Angels, I'd forgotten. I'm kinda curious to read the book just to see how the setting's presented, and I generally just have an absurd love for Stolze anyway, so I throw down to support sometimes even when I don't think I'm gonna get around to reading what I grab.

I got Tales from Failed Anatomies after the last podcast and have kinda mixed feelings about it. Don't hate it, don't love it, haven't finished it, might like it more once I do. I finally listened to Audible's version of Day Z 'cause Caleb recommended it and I aaabsolutely loved it, which is weird, 'cause zombies usually leave me totally cold. Loved that it was more of a "pandemic" story than a zombie story. I also got The Night Lands not on RPPR's recommendation but after being reminded that it exists, and mygod is it unreadable. Some really cool proto-cosmic horrory imagery, but the style is just appalling. There've been quite a few novels and short story collections mentioned on the talk podcast I've meant to pick up and forgotten about.

So "a lot," basically. The financial hardship of the RPG producer seems very real, and I'm proud to participate in alleviating it, however slightly. I just wish I knew more nerds generally to turn them onto this stuff. I'm sure that a huge audience would love the kind of radio RPPR puts out, if only people didn't have such extraordinary format bias. They'll pay $12 to sit through blunt, blinkard three-hour movies over and over, but hand them a hilarious and cunningly-wrought three-hour AP podcast for free and they shut down. They'd be such great sales tools if people'd just give em a shot.

Aw shucks. We do what we can!

BTW, I read The Night Land, Retold instead of the standard text: http://www.amazon.com/The-Night-Land-Story-Retold-ebook/dp/B004GKNM3W

Basically it updates the prose of the story so that it doesn't suck and adds dialogue between the man and woman, while still leaving in all the weirdness of the Night Land.

So fast forward to a month ago, gaming at a buddies place and he pulls out a can of dollar store Cola... that is Shasta Cola. As it turns out the local dollar store carries the whole Shasta soda line. Does this count for this thread? XD

Agreed. Charles Stross' Laundry Files series is quite good.

In the realm of non-fiction I've been on a WWI kick lately; I liked Lawrence in Arabia, by Scott Anderson.

I'm one of the three-star reviews of The Rhesus Chart on Amazon. I still feel bad, but I didn't really like it. =< With the death of Iain Banks and the living death of Pratchett, Stross has basically ascended to my favorite living author, so it makes me sad when he doesn't wow or at least baffle (Neptune's Brood) me. Case Nightmare Green has been stalled for too long! I want more metaplot!

Edit: Oooh, I actually read a DIFFERENT rewriting of The Night Lands. A free one on somebody's website. I wonder if this one's related.

: Re: What have you bought because of the podcast?

Yay monsters!

BTW I finished the Rhesus Chart - I quite liked it. The focus on bureaucracy was pretty interesting and the take on vampires was pretty neat. The only 2 things that annoyed me were the overuse of callbacks to previous novels (which is inevitable I suppose, but you don't have to point out the eater of souls bit every time) and Spooky's bits were over cute.

BTW there's a good read for spoilers here: http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/2014/07/spoiler-thread.html

Because of the podcast, I've bought pretty much all of Eclipse Phase, including The Devotees. All of the books are in hardback with some pdf back-up. (My wallet cries.) I've also bought Ashen Stars, Night's Black Agents, and A Dirty World.

I've bought two Eclipse Phase books (the core book and Transhuman) and I've just bought into Delta Green for the complete run. Also Trail of Cthulhu, which I probably never would have given a chance otherwise. One of these days I'll probably pick up Night's Black Agents and maybe The Dracula Dossier (or at least Dracula Unredacted -- man, what a cool idea that is!).

And I've also bought Ross and Caleb's books. Somehow I ended up with two copies of No Security. ;D

The EP main book and the Bundle of Holding EP pack (which included the Devotees!)
MAOCT (and also may have influenced my choice of prize for winning the fan contest)
COC
Little Fears
Slasher Flick
The Laundry Bundle of Holding (mostly because of their discussion of how much they like the novels. Maybe some day we'll see the game.)
No Security and gameless Lover in the Ice

and now, with an Old Guard pledge, all Delta Green everything, both old and new.

If it wasn't for my friend introducing me to AD&D, I won't be into RPGs, and if it wasn't for RPPR, I wouldn't be playing all this stuff. I've read through MAOCT, Little Fears, Slasher Flick, and No Security / Lover, got most of the way through EP, and part of the way through COC.

Non RPGS:

Horrorstor (Lovely concept and execution, plus Cleveland represent! In violent horror!)

After hearing the gang's review of Hc Svnt Dracones (such a stupid title though...) in the latest episode I bought the pdf, especially since it was $3 off DriveThruRPG. About a fourth of the way through, and it's interesting to say the least. I was expecting more of a "YO DAWG I HEARD YOU LIKE FURRIES AND SCIFI SO WE PUT FURRIES IN YO ECLIPSE PHASE SO YOU CAN TRANSHUMAN WHILE YOU ANTHROMORPHIC" but it uses the two in a way that feels organic and not shoehorned. Will be interesting to see how the rest of the book, and the mechanics, fair.
: Re: What have you bought because of the podcast?
: Morbid December 03, 2015, 04:24:45 PM
I kind of came at it backwards - I'd listened to 1-2 episodes of RPPR but that was it until the No Soul Left Behind kickstarter dropped.  I liked the concept so much (both parents have taught, I do TAing) that I went in for it.  It was only later that I listened to the playtest and have been hooked ever since.

With that in mind:

RPG books:
- Most of the stuff from that ArcDream clearout last year.  Included Wild Talents, supplements, Candlewick Manor, pretty much everything for MaoCT except Road Trip.
- Eclipse Phase core and Morph Recognition cards
- Esoterrorists 2e
- Laundry Files bundle of holding
- The Quiet Year
- No Security

I was already going to get Delta Green when it launched the kickstarter but RPPR helped convince me to up my pledge.

Other books:
I like the fiction and writing shout-outs a whole lot, so: Wool, Storyteller, and many things (Powers, Planetary, etc) checked out from the library based on RPPRecommendations.  Also Darkest Dungeon, though I haven't really played it.

This is a bit off topic but...

RPPR has kind of ruined me on buying new games. The old ones are fine, I can back a Golden Goblin kickstarter sight unseen and know I'll want whatever it is that at last makes it to my inbox.

But almost all the other games I've picked up, read, played and enjoyed have been demo'ed on RPPR. I'm not sure I would have read through Eclipse Phase if I didn't have Know Evil and the intro game Ross ran as a thing to fill in. Night's Black Agents has become one of my favorite games and ideas but I didn't even think to read it without hearing it on RPPR.

The other side is last year I saw Polaris on Kickstarter. It looked neat and stuff but as I started reading it my eyes glazed over and I just kind of stopped caring. But had RPPR done a few sessions of it I'd be much more interested, a lot of the game pre-filled in from time spent commuting and at the gym.

Just about the only new thing I've been able to get was Apocalypse World and I suspect that's from the book being an easy read and having as few barriers to play as possible.

So it's something interesting I've noticed.

I dropped an obscene amount of money at the Pelgrane Press booth at Dragonmeet last year: Got me all the Night's Black Agents books and Bubblegumshoe. I like how focused the Pelgrane books are. You don't feel like you get conned into committing to a big old game line like certain F20 games do and others of that vintage.

I still have a little trouble reading the setting matter in the Eclipse Phase core rules because of how comprehensively it was covered in Know Evil.
