: Payday 2 Discussion Thread
: Flawless P August 11, 2014, 04:51:33 PM
So RPPR's new episode (103) reminded me that I wanted to talk you all y'all peeps about the mechanics of payday.

Let me begin by saying, I do love this game, I've put in over 100 hours easily.

So does anyone else get kind of frustrated with guards randomly deciding they can see you through a wall.. or ECM's not being super clear about when to put them down?

I downloaded Hoxhud, it has timers for the ECM's and shows you how many body bags you have on your person and how many pagers your group can answer, also you can check timers for objectives without having to go back over to it.

So with all that stuff added in I feel like I learned so much about the game mechanics.

So some of the things I like to do in Payday 2.

Four Stores can be completed on all Difficulties up to Overkill by going into the liqueur store and ecming the ATM and hiding behind the open door until the escape car comes.

Diamond Store gives a 30% stealth bonus to your next mission and is pretty easy to do. Especially on Normal.

Chaining ECM's is the key after you find the security card and pad just ecm and switch off the alarm and run 4 bags to the car before they run out.

After that do a Rats or Firestarter on Overkill as a pro job to get yourself a solid 500k exp.

The money on those missions are really good too.

You guys got any tricks of the trade to share?

Payday 2 is really fun but it is terrible at explaining itself to new players. You should all read this guide: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GvFAlc9n51gg_bv05Em7HqLeLRJl_RJWS1ZuUUnKXaw/edit

That being said, HoxHud is a user made mod that has been OKed by the developer - get it here https://steamcommunity.com/groups/HoxHud

Be sure to keep it updated.

Watch videos of pros to learn certain  levels, especially stealth levels like shadow raid

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkYI2uYqkG4

most new players seem to avoid enforcer skills for some reason but man shooting skillz are usually very useful.

My favorite combo so for has been the Mastermind-Enforcer.

I've been toying with the build calculator.

http://www.pd2skills.info/

This is also Overkill Approved. It's good and has a slider so you can set your level which helps when you are as bad at falling into trap skills.

I had that Enforcer skill for infinite ammo aced for a long time till I realized it makes you put your ammo bag in AWFUL places and you still have to reload if you come to the end of your magazine so 3 of your 10 seconds on free ammo are wasted.

But yeah Shadow Raid is infuriating. I've done it twice, and both times it took at least 10 tries and over 3/4 of those were due to random guards being able to see me through walls or noticing a bag of loot that was in the sewers even though they weren't near it.

Did Framing Frame on Hard full stealth once.

It was tough and to a certain degree highly frustrating due to there being to many guards not enough pagers but we got it down.

Also back to build information regardless of your core class, I have some abilities I consider required for anyone who is still leveling up. 7 points in Mastermind Unlock, Aced Cable Guy, Basic Fast Learner and Endurance. (Can can drop Fast Learner once you cap levels.)

5 points in enforcer. Unlock and Aced Transporter.

11-14 Points in ghost. Unlock, Basic Cat burglar, Aced Fast Hands, and Shinobi at least basic but can be really nice to have it Aced for certain situations.

Unfortunately this does seem to preclude you from getting top tier rewards from two classes though.

EDIT: Also Cable Guy is completely optional if you already have more than 10 million in spendable cash on hand, since you can just execute all the hostages if you don't care about money.

I dig it.

How does it feel to run around with the Best Armor mixed with the Armor skills from Tech?

I feel like you'd never lose your armor at that point.

I'm pretty much always the last to go down in a fight but even 272 armor evaporates pretty quickly in a DW fight. HoxHud helps because it tells me how long it will take to regen armor so I can check it and hide out until it pops back.

I've run into an interesting issue lately and wondering if anyone has found a solution:

Whenever I am playing online, my game will crash the first time that I try to start a mission (regardless of whether hosting or not) and the first time that alarms are raised (regardless of hosting or not).  That said, it works fine in single player offline.  I have tried Google, but to no avail....

Do you use HoxHud?

4.2 kinda broke Payday 2 for a minute. They've since fixed the crashing issues.

Mayhaps that is the problem?

Otherwise I have no idea.

I respecc'd to try the Tanknician but  haven't gotten in a truly tough firefight yet. We are planning on trying to do DW  Rats soon.

For DW, I would use either a Thanatos + loco or judge or maxed out CAR-4 and loco or judge if other people are taking Thanatos.

Ooh, good call.  Should have checked that before uninstalling to reinstall....

Lessons I learned the hard way
-Cloakers can kick through the sides of vans.
-"Framing Frames" is a swear word
-When pugging the big bank, get everyone to verbally walk through their job before you start.
: Re: Payday 2 Discussion Thread
: Flawless P August 13, 2014, 06:11:19 PM
Oh man so I love that last one.

That's just a golden rule for any stealth mission really lol.

Things I Learned The Hardway
-Just because a path looks clear doesn't mean you can run and turn the power back on during an Assault. Learned During Rats Overkill Pro Job.
-You cannot out run a cloaker forever, eventually you will be caught, even if you try to ring him around the escape van.
-If two people answer the same pager, neither of them can stop, because game mechanics.
-If it is your job to turn off the alarmed glass on Diamond Store, you have to do so BEFORE you start looting.

Tried to do Big Bank Loud on Deathwish Last night.

Anyone got any recommendations?

I keep going to reply to this and hesitating because I have never done it and have no idea if my ideas would work... but... here are my ideas

-Deal with as much of the stuff on the roof as you can before it goes loud?
-Make sure everyone grabs the maximum number of hostages once it goes loud and do your best to keep as many alive and in your control as possible.
-Don't pug, work with a group that is willing to try and try again and will learn from their mistakes.

Read this

General rule for any time you run on Deathwish?

I'm part of the great unwashed masses that just got a copy of Payday2 on Steam.
Does anyone have current (2017) hints on how to not suck? Skills that one should buy? Perks?

Play the tutorial levels to learn the core basics.

Stealth can be fun but it requires a lot more knowledge of how the game works than normal loud heists. All stealth levels can be soloed so don't try stealth with random pubbies.

You can create different skillsets by going to the skills menu and hitting S. You can rename each skillset so you have one for stealth, one for medic, one for ammo bags, one for drill skills etc.

You can do the same with inventory profiles - bottom center of inventory screen. You can also choose a different skillset with each profile so you can customize a loadout for stealth, one for drills, one for a medic/team leader type.

The single most useful skill in the game is Inspire aced since you instantly pick up a downed player from about 9 meters away. It can only be used once every 20 seconds though.

Learn about perk decks and focus on filling out one perk deck to max before you start on another. Good starter perk decks: muscle, armorer, anarchist, crew chief, gambler, in that order. Hitman and yakuza are garbage. Others vary, but require specific builds to work well.

Don't forget to equip the perk deck.

Try to focus on doing a few things well rather than scatter skill points around. Good skills to aim for

Inspire, aced
Iron Man, Aced
overkill basic (if you use shotguns)
Swan Song, Aced (especially with inspired ace, then you can pick someone up and then move to a safe spot so teammate can pick you up)
Frenzy and Berserker aced (very powerful but very dangerous - low health. Best combined with anarchist, since armor is not affected by health penalty)
Body Expertise, Aced

Try to bring double medic bags or double ammo bags. They are always useful on loud jobs. First aid kits are more for dodge builds and I don't recommend bothering with dodge until you get used to the game.

Sentry turrets are okay for lower difficulties but joker cops are EXTREMELY powerful IF AND ONLY IF you get every single joker skill aced. If you ace all 3 skills (joker, partners in crime, and confident) you can have 2 cops with 99% damage resistance. They can tank a lot of enemy aggression.

stick to overkill (3 skulls) and lower until you are at least level 90 and are comfortable with the game. Mayhem (4 skulls) and higher difficulties ramp up QUICK. One Down (6 skulls) is total bullshit and should be avoided unless you are dumb and a masochist like me.

Infamy up to level 5 gives bonus skill points. If you infamy, buy a bunch of guns before you reset so you can sell them and get your cash back after you go infamous. Infamy 6 and beyond is just for bonus masks and cheevos.

Good luck with the heistery!

I learned a lot from watching the Payday 2 vids on Railery/ RPPR youtube channel.
: Re: Payday 2 Discussion Thread
: clockworkjoe June 29, 2017, 09:40:55 PM

anarchist perk deck maxed out plus a light vest and skill that gives plus 20 vest armor

bullseye aced shotgun skills to overkill basic
then steakout shotgun and berserker and frenzy aced
and 000 buckshot in shotgun]
iron man basic for more armor
ammo bags for deployable
a judge shotgun with HE for shields and dozer masks

shotguns are better at lower accuracy because pellets spread farther
and one pellet does full damage
so more chance of scoring headshots
headshots regen armor

shotgun cq and close by aced
you want reload speed and big magazine for this
just hold down trigger to clear a room
