Fuck that dog. :(

Rarely have I screamed because of a game. Much less during daylight surrounded by friends. Fuck. That. Dog. (How'd he even get through those fucking barrels.)

Given it was just a short: "Ah!" but damn if it wasn't 5 bucks. I rarely get stressed out like that in a game.

Wow, that cellphone video was pretty great. Not too creepy because it's obviously fake, but really well done and pretty neat.

I first saw this on Atomfilms.com a while ago and scared the crap out of me.  I looked for it again but...it's not there and this makes me sad.  I DID find it on youtube, but the quality isn't what I'd like.  It's a short film, about 12 minutes altogether and he had to split it up into 2 parts, but the second part links in the video at the end of the first

I know this isn't a video or photo, but how about legitimately freaky movies? I love horror as a genre (although hate those surprise scares that only scare you by tricking you) and when of the freakiest movies I've ever seen is Jacob's Ladder - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob%27s_Ladder_(film) Any other suggestions for movies that have a high creep out factor?

Ted the Caver is pretty freaky, would make a good premise for a Cthulhu one-shot.

If anyone remembers the Childhood terror of Watership down here's a nice little clip from a movie from the same guy who wrote it.

Plague Dogs - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tp5mcc47xD8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tp5mcc47xD8)

Remember that this was made for a PG certificate, I pity the poor child who's parent thinks this is good for him/her to watch

Maze: Picked up Penumbra thanks to your post. Damn DOG is a pain. Finally beat it to death with the hammer from on top of a crate. Next level ran into three and got them with the pick. Not your typical FPS type game, I like it! I found that there is no easy way to take the dogs out when you are on the ground as they run around you, just like real dogs, then you're dead in three bites. When I tried the crate tactic the first time I accidently hit the crate twice instead of the jumping dog and smashed the crate allowing the dog to get me. Very creepy game atmosphere, it makes you weak and scared :-)

Thanks!

Session 9 gets mentioned alongside Jacob's Ladder quite a bit. I've only seen part of it but what I saw was good. If you don't mind subtitles (or can speak Spanish), [REC] is a great movie. There are almost no jump-scares and the final scenes are very tense. The English remake that came out recently is awful, don't even look it up.

Relevant creepy-ness submission: Some of the most famous effects in Jacob's Ladder were inspired by the work of deformity-loving photographer Joel-Peter Witkin. You might remember this guy from the hospital o' hell scene.

http://www.correnticalde.com/joelpeterwitkin/1976-Indulgences_Man_with_no_legs.jpg

I should mention that Witkin took advantage of some lax body disposal policies to get subjects for many of his pictures. The guy in the above photo was alive and well except for his handicap, but anyone who decides to look for more should consider themselves warned!

Use the dynamite sticks or get one of the gaz tanks, hit it and throw it at the dog before it blows up. If you only wound him though, run!!!

The second game of this series is pretty good too. I liked it even more. Some of the puzzles in the game really forces you to be ingenious. Remember: When all else fails, bash it open with a chair; it just takes a few extra hits. The expansion on the other hand sucks, as the story is at a very satisfying ending.

oh kay oh kay. Hows this for creepy, I was gonna put it in the youtube section but then I saw the credits at the end of the 2nd movie. Its creepy how star studded this was! For the people who dont know this was a 3D ride in the 80's and 90's at Disney Land. My uncle loved this ride so we allways had to go on it. It is more of just a 3D movie, perhaps thats why he wanted to see it so he could sit for 15 min haha!

I know there are three images in this post, but they're all details of the same creepy thing, so I'm gonna go ahead and hope that it's all right.

Okay, so a few of my friends used to attend SUNY Purchase in Westchester County, NY. The college recently installed this sculpture (probably a student project) on The Mall, their main quad. Every time a Purchase student walks past the library, they get to look at this...hideous thing:

::shudder:: It makes me want to cry.

And in case one photograph wasn't enough to make you lose bowel control in terror, here's a detail of all the crazy stuff that the sculptor saw fit to put in its head:

There's a pick axe sticking out of its head...oh God oh God oh-

But anywho, looking at this thing from yet a third angle, it's clear that it has some artistic merit beyond the discomfort it inspires in those who view it. Here's a shot of the sculpture from behind, one which shows even more of the sculptor's dim view of humanity:

So it's actually a novel re-imagining of The Ascent of Man that depicts our development from skeletal figures straining to pull free of the primordial ooze into hideous, technology-obsessed murder machines.

If that isn't deeply unsettling, I don't know what is.

As an avid fan of Evil Dead 2, this actually is awesome. The only truly unsettling part is the baby squealing in the background in some of those scenes. Do Not Want.

Also, this is the CREEPY thread of doom, not the screamer thread of doom, jump scares are not genuine scares!

In that same vein, check this out:

http://www.lioddities.com/Asylums/Kings_Park/index.html

This site is dedicated to the King's Park Psychiatric Center, a now defunct mental hospital in Suffolk County, New York. Interestingly enough, the grounds are now a public park, open and accessible to joggers, families, picnickers, etc, despite the crumbling edifices of a derelict sanitarium on the premises. It's an interesting place to visit and take photographs, too. Very creepy, indeed.

Survival Guide
We’ve all been there. You have just gone to a certain place, at a certain time on a certain date, done a special thing and the thing you suspected would happen has just fucking happened, not to mention the fact that you’ve just seen whatever the fuck it is that lives in your mirror, been told in detail how you’re going to die, and the highly demonic and invincible thing you summoned is heading towards you.
Also, your family are all dead, your friends are all missing and you’re being framed by someone with access to your bedroom. What the fuck do you do now, sweet protagonist?

Well, you’ve come to the right place to find out: These are the simple rules one must follow in order to firstly, not become the victim of creepypasta and furthermore, to come out kicking if the worst does happen. With the help of this guide you too can be the catatonic, traumatised wreck as opposed to the guy currently being worn as a coat by some dude who roams a lot. Just keep these simple rules in mind…

1. Mirrors and darkness don’t mix.
2. Actually mirrors are a general “NO”, in creepypasta world, there is nothing more sinister.
3. There is zero chance of survival if you look the thing that no one else can see or answer it’s question incorrectly.
4. If you are alone at night in a creepy mental institution, take some time to consider what the fuck are you doing there, then, if it is appropriate to do so, leave.
5. Avoid going to places where everyone else who went there never came back or died inexplicably.
6. If someone stops your vehicle at night and asks to come with you, it would probably be in your best interests to politely decline.
7. Killing is the last method of survival, use it sparingly but without fear.
8. WHO WAS PHONE is always a good thing to ponder. Also who the hell answers a phone while kissing a dead persons sexy daughter. A douche is who.
9. Get a simple .38 revolver. Load it with 2 silver bullets. If you really feel there is no chance to come alive out of a situation, take one shot at whatever’s threatening you. If this doesn’t work, you still have the last shot to become an hero with.
10. Area 51 is simply too well guarded to let you get in. Or to let any alien out.
11. When going to a hotel, try to steer clear of unauthorized areas. If you couldn’t resist but you saw a red thing, take some time to consider the price range and hotel standard on your next visit. Have you ever stayed at a haunted Hilton?
12. When booking your hotel stay, Trip Advisor can be an invaluable tool in deeming whether your choice is the scene of a multiple murder/full of dead people/built at the mouth of hell. Local newspapers can also be helpful.
13. Invoking demons, speaking weird languages and performing rituals of any kind is considered dangerous. Refrain from doing that, especially around Abandoned Warehouses, Churches, Psychiatric Institutions, Forests and your house in front of a mirror at night.
14. When going to a new area, environmental understanding is a key to survival. Ask around for cursed places, legends, dangers and other details. Listen to the local peoples’ advice, and don’t be afraid to ask if you’re unsure of which attacks/disappearances are paranormal and which aren’t.
15. Always have a Bible next to your bed. Provides average reading material, proof of beliefs and a really heavy object to throw at enemies.
16. Don’t count on Holy Water. Get a sturdy vial of Sulfuric Acid and let a priest Consecrate it.
17. Japanese priests cleanse rooms by waving katana swords around. Their ritual is 100% effective on corporeal forms.
18. If you find 666 messages on your phone, mailbox, email, etc consider changing the said service provider. Also don’t bother listening /reading the messages. It’s spam. Extra dimensional, possibly, but spam nevertheless.
19. Old pharmaceutical companies cant help you. Unless you specifically need “Blood Of The Innocent”, ”Snake Oil”, and “Radioactive Syrup”. Which is never.
20. If you need to sign it in blood, you do not need to sign it. All mainstream governing bodies will accept contracts signed in ink, bear this in mind if offered deals that seem too good to be true.
21. Lighthouses are dangerous. Avoid them at all costs. If you work at a Lighthouse consider a career in Insurance Sales, or Veterinary Care.
22. There is simply no reason to listen to music that causes suicidal tendencies, or to watch films that have had strange/disastrous consequences..
23. If you like to plan ahead and have some money, buy your auntie and uncle a house in Bel-Air. Nothing can harm you there no matter how scared your mother is.
24. Secret secluded untouched places in old buildings are left untouched for a reason. Pioneers never say “die” but in fact they do have an unusually high mortality rate.
25. Before you start swimming in the ice-cold waters of a murky lake at the center of a dark forest at midnight, ask yourself, do you really want to travel to an ancient and terrifying city? If the answer is “no,” then stay at home instead, and watch whatever quality programming is available on Cinemax.
26. On your 33rd birthday try celebrating in a well lit house with the company of others.
27. Refrain from using the One True Name for anything, there is probably a reason people gave it a nick.
28. Watching TV static for long periods may be hazardous to your health, try satelite TV to combat this problem.
29. Get a cat. Those furry little hairballs seem to perceive unnatural phenomena better than us, and if desperate, simply throw it at whatever is about to get you.
30. Cemeteries are bad places, especially in foggy conditions and on halloween.
31. Try not to close your eyes, ever. If you must, do so only briefly.
32. If you hear chanting, run until you are out of earshot.
33. If you are too old to play with dolls, you do not need to be anywhere near one of the creepy little fuckers.
34. Legends can offer valuable insight of where not to go camping with friends.
35. When babysitting, ascertain the family’s tastes and preferences, to avoid being killed by poorly selected statues.
36. Even if you are certain that running will not save you, it is always best to try.

Follow these simple rules and little (or massive) harm may befall you. Either way, the important thing is to make sure your tale is told, copied, and pasted repeatedly.

The Little Fears (http://www.youtube.com/user/theLittleFears?blend=2&ob=1) Youtube channel is always good for general creepiness.  It's where I got that "Corrupted Bootleg" video.  She also did a cover of Candle Cove (which she kinda botched by calling the villain the "Skin Talker").  Only one of her videos (Mount Pleasant) has a jump-scare at the very end.

If the video wasn't creepy enough.

Goblin sharks hunt by sensing the presence of prey with electro-sensitive organs in the rostrum, or snout, due to the absence of light in the deep waters where it swims. Once a shark finds its prey, it suddenly protrudes its jaws, while using a tongue-like muscle to suck the victim into its sharp front teeth. Some prey they have been known to feed on include deep-sea rockfish (Helicolenus dactylopterus was found in one specimen), cephalopods and crustaceans.[18]
: Re: CREEPY THREAD OF DOOM
: Dogfish October 24, 2010, 07:22:26 AM
I find the cookie-cutter shark far more creepy. I takes upto 3 inch deep perfectly circular bites out of creatures, it's lower set of teeth all being connected like a saw blade that vibrates and turns to chew through it's prey.

Those two bite marks were made by the fairly small and harmless looking shark.

Just watched the entire run of it up to Entry #28. Wow, there was some really good horror in there. I'm interested to see where they're going to go with it.

The film style kind of reminds me of this one PC game I picked up called "Evidence: The Last Ritual". I really dig those long highway shots to add to the emotional value of the in-between scenes.

Evidence is a pretty badass game if you ever get a chance to check it out. It comes in an evidence bag and puts you in the role of an investigator on a cold case. You put your email address into it and while you're playing the game (and get to certain key points) you start getting actual emails from mysterious people, trying to get you to stop investigating.

I suppose this Dwarf Fortress fan art could be considered NSFW. If there are animated piles of bones, why can't there be an animated pile of skin?

I could also see arguing for this video in a couple other places, but I figure here is good because people who don't want to be disturbed aren't going to click this.

Best video for a cultist of Shub-Niggurath I've ever heard of. EXTREMELY NWS, by the by.

this still sickens me to this day...Robert Dziekanski, a Polish immigrant who didn't speak English, and his treatment by the local police...simply horrifying...

The Dionaea House

My buddy and I at work usually discuss creepy pasta and horror stuff in general. Was talking about Slendervlog when he mention I should check this out, It's not Slenderman but shit is it as involved and creepy as a Slenderblog. from way back 2004. Reminds me of the "Smedly House" jump-start module in the Unspeakable Oath 22.

A pretty good read. Captivated my interest... but then that's the danger.

I find the idea of losing your community to crazies to be absolutely terrifying.   But it is also great tabletop gaming fodder!

A well done radio play from the 1940s. Horror of course.

On the same page are many more. Some of them have clear Lovecraft inspiration.

these are pretty neat pictures although I don't really consider naked greek gods to be lovecraftian

The tumblr has been running for a while I suppose and he is running out of the known lovecraft things to draw. I would look at the earlier entries for less classical and more mythos inspired monster.
