Is Delta Green really a separate system?  I wasn't sure, but I was always kind of under the impression that it was more of a "setting" for Call of Cthulhu (like Forgotten Realms to DnD)...

Delta Green is a setting for CoC.

We have several M&M games actually - Tom ran a few sessions of it and so did RJ (he started playing with us last fall but the APs haven't caught up to him yet)

I haven't dug through the new AP site, but I know Ross has some real old APs using the Little Fears system. I'm not sure if we recorded the game session where we converted Smokin' Aces into a Psion game though. There was a really crazy Pantheon game that was recorded over July 4 weekend this year (well maybe a couple of them). And then another game using a game system I don't remember that Ross was playing with. I don't think that Little Fears or Pantheon have made it up as APs yet if that is what you are looking for Tad.

Oh man... I just finished listening to the last one again, then wondered what on earth I could listen to that would be roughly an hour.

EPISODE 41!

Great timing.

Oh, to answer the actual question - there was mention that there were further Yazuza games (leading to the machine gun incident) other than the one Tom and Jason partook in.

Were any of them recorded?

Otherwise, I think the ones people have already suggested sound cool.

The great Yakuza massacre of 2005? Unfortunately no, none of those session were recorded. Unless this was a different Yakuza game that you're referencing.

As for the APs - they are about 6 months behind I think so you won't hear from RJ for a while (except the world of darkness game as I ran that on Friday - it was a mystery so it dovetailed perfectly with episode 41)

I've been working on a few ideas for Monsters. Specifically, a campaign that features a fast-food restaurant named MacDunnegal's moving into a quiet little town. It just so happens that MacDunnegal's has become such an icon in America that their mascots have taken on a life of their own. Literally. Suddenly, the mascots of MacDunnegal's are attacking the town and its up to our heroes to save the day.

there's no real way to tell. Multiple people can download from the same IP or a single person can download the PDF from multiple IPs. The old plugin I used (podpress) only tracked from which way people downloaded it (feed or manual download) while powerpress does track by IP. Of course I only switched to powerpress in Dec. so we have two sets of stats.

Unfortunately, simply not paying attention to them won't work because the corporate machine has cast such a powerful sigil that the monsters are there to stay. The restaurant brings much needed work for teens of the town (the PCs?), it's one of the only fast food restaurants in town, and since the town is small and boring, it's also the only decent place to hang out. Coming from a small town, I know what I'm talking about on that front.

Just finished a two hour trip back home, and with that the last of the new podcasts already :(

Bill's game sounded fun - obviously, we missed the set of of it, sounded an interesting premise to be marooned on another plane. It's also fun to see you and bill swap GM and player rolls (and back again in the New Wolrd) - mostly because you can then rag on each other about not allowing beholders to be dropped in the sea, and 70 hit point plants! The group dynamic seemed good, and Bill's different flavour of GM also makes it an interesting series to hopefully get more of. Now we just need Cody's game!

Omar Shakti is probably more fun for the CoC players since it finishes off their characters' stories fro ma previous game, and also lets them take insane powers. Still, as an entertaining action game instead of a CoC horror, I have no complaints. MVP has to be Tom's creepy character, though (Tina?) with her contant 00s and general rules exploiting was good too.

I think I completely shared Cody's views about the two parts of the Prototype game. The first has the really great theme of the everymen getting out of their depth, and the group dynamic as they investigate. Jason's rock incident, and all the ramifications of that are truly hilarious.

The second prototype is entertaining for the divisions of the fighters and investigators, and the reacts to the situations, but doens't have the same atmosphere to it.

I really like the 'Don't Rest Your Head' game from many angles. The system sounded like it was interesting, it was great hearing you guys explore it from fresh, but mostly everyone seemed on fire too. Bill brought the weird world to life with all the variety of characters, Tom's people-hated laundromat attendant was fun, your logical guy bounced well off of him and had his intense moments at the end, etc

I was distracted this morning studying, so the Survival City episode I don't recall as much about, might have to give it another listen. The ending was well done, and I managed to contain a loud laugh on the train regarding the reason Cody's mayor wandered what year it was.

The Candlewick manor game is a cool contrast sicne I assume it's from the senario as Ben himself ran, just you put the players in a different direction and got them into the town. I think because the players got luckier with their echoes and revelations more plot got entered in the short amount of time, showing how the senario can go.

Hmm, don't recall the Sucrose one, and can't find it with the other mp3s, which means a) my iPod has stuck it in another section, and b) I STILL HAVE SOMETHING TO LISTEN TOO! Something pretty epic, apparently.

In general such a concentration of awesome makes me realise how good a player Tom is (And he's amongst many good players). He can play up the voices and mannerisms to keep characters feeling different, but also the morality of the characters  is often wildly different.

This is why I always loved playing with Tom. It's too bad the Masks of Nyarlathotep game was not recorded. Tom had some great characters in that game and we often fed off of one another.

Also in Ross' first post, he said,

WAR WAS BEGINNING

I got Candlewick and Sucrose Park downloaded but my home connection is still down and my office connection is blocking me now. I'll have to go to the coffee shop to get the rest.

Sucrose Park made me fall out of my chair. It's awesome and hilarious. "God, how much milk did you drink kid?!"

The roller coaster ride. Timothy made himself look alive so he could ride it with Dan. He went around twice and made a roll to keep from getting sick. He made the first and failed the second. I think Timmy failed both so during the second run you said he throw up ectoplasm.

At that point everyone felt the desire to chime in with various statements regarding large volumes of thick white fluid. One of the first, and funniest for me, was someone asking "God, how much milk did you drink kid?!"

what was the exchange about? I don't even remember that part. I only remember Cody being absolutely adamant that the brain trust learned a lesson when in fact it insisted that it did not learn any such lesson.

thinking of adding some new rewards

30 buck reward
Get early access to every game of Delta Green: Night Shift that I ran at Gencon and Dragoncon in addition to the 10 preview episodes.

Alternative 50 buck reward:

We record a message of up to 3 minutes for you - want us to be your answering machine or voice mail message? Or for me to read something really dumb in my announcer voice? NO PROBLEM

100 buck reward - I will run a 2-4 hour game online for you using Skype and/or maptools or whatever program you want. You pick the system but if you pick something I've never run then I will probably suck with the rules.

Additional question on the possible new reward.  If I put up $100, can I also release the game on my podcast?  I'd be happy to coordinate it so that it was a simultaneous release.  I am REALLY tempted to make you run the worst game of all time that has been mentioned previously, but I think I'd rather choose CoC so that I have nightmares rather than you.

Donate enough to get two.
Request one of Ross moaning.
Request one of Tom moaning.
Once you get them, overlay them, add porno sound track, and publish on the internet.

And that's just from, like, thirty seconds of brainstorming. Probably could get creepier if I put thought into it.

Well, not time of my life. I'm goin' to GenCon, I'll probably sign up for one of his games there. I don't plan to pay in the Skype game, I'm just donating money so you can. I'll up it to 50 if we can wait until next Friday to actually make the donations.

Tad do you have some kind of trust fund that we don't know about? You're always the one that donates the most. We appreciate it, but we don't want you to have to take out a second mortgage or anything.  8)

At least 3 of the Nerdbound folks were interested. I'll have a better count on Sunday, but we may be able to combine forces. Even if we do a Nerdbound game ourselves, I'm not opposed to throwing in $20 to play in another game. Gotta spend that tax return.

I'm just one of those weird guys who devotes a fairly large portion of my income to my hobbies. My fiance and me are Dinks, though now that we're playing for a mortgage (first mortgage) I'm not throwing around the loose cash like I might have in the past.

That's why I only put up 50 and not more. But since this ransom is long enough to run across more than one paycheck I can make multipule donations.

While not being able to view or post on the forums as much as I would like, I appreciate RPPR and it's entertaining greatness. To show off my generosity in public, I just dropped $200 in the kickstarter bucket for the ransom... the rewards are what sucked me in. I can't wait to play my skype game with Ross.

Any of you RPPR forum dwellers have any suggestions for games? I'm thinking of Rogue Trader right now, but I'd love to hear your thoughts (Ross included). Just keep in mind I'll want it recorded and posted.

Thanks guys.

POETS WILL WEEP BLOOD AFTER HEARING THIRD HAND ACCOUNTS AT HOW GREAT THIS GAME OF ROGUE TRADER WAS

NATIONS WILL BE SHATTERED - THE PROPHECY SHALL BE FULFILLED - IRAN WILL GIVE UP ITS NUCLEAR PROGRAM

seriously, I will learn the rules, force some of the rppr crew to play it before I run it on skype and it shall be glorious

you don't even know

YOU DONT EVEN KNOW

btw - at hotel for fear the con - first day was great and I will post Delta Green: Operation Obsidian, a Vietnam era game based on unpublished notes written by Scott Glancy on Monday

Also I will upload Tom's Gencon games to the preview section soon

Geez Ross, insecure much?

I just figured you should go with something you know is going to be great rather than something that will probably be great.  Then again I'm not a betting man and I know that I'll rarely get the chance to play CoC with my group.

Besides, can't a guy give his thoughts on something on the internet without someone acting like an asshole and blowing the comment way out of proportion?  Wait, that statement is redundant since it includes someone acting like an asshole and the internet.

See I just did it in reference to your comment!  Now we're in a reverse infinite regress that ends with both of us dying lonely, inconsequential,  horrible deaths.  Oh the humanity.

Anyway, I would like to hear a Rogue Trader game if you end up putting it together.  I'm sure it'll be fun.  I don't even remember what I typed above in that rant and am too lazy to re-read, so . . .

Can you accommodate 8 people in a Skype game?  Just wondering how many folks you think is doable electronically.  It's definitely different than Con games when you are sitting in the same room.

Also, if my crew is putting money together, do we all pool it for one donation, or can we each just tag our names as NerdBound when contributing?  We're pretty stoked to do a Skype game and I don't wanna miss the chance.

So just make sure you trust the person who has the kickstarter account

As long as you're funding the project, Ross will never get tired of you. I promise.

EDIT: In fact, even though the project is technically "funded," it doesn't mean the awards will go away. So, if you or someone you know wants to keep donating 100 dollar chunks, I'm sure Ross will still run some games.

Yeah, I can't wait to see what Ross does with the Skype games. We were discussing running a Skype game someone where I would play as an antagonist against a group of players. I have a tendency to break Ross' games by either accident or sheer will (and not break in a bad way, just figure out how to use the system logic in my and my party's favor).

Just art as far as I know, though I'd be really excited to try writing a small section somewhere if the help is needed. I'm not really an experienced writer, so I wouldn't feel comfortable jumping in on a big or complex portion of the writing.

I'm putting together a book right now and struggling because of sheer volume and inexperience, so a mini-apprenticeship working with some talented writers might be good for me. :)

THE SECRET REWARD: Part Deux - The details

This is for anyone who contributes $50 or more from this point forward: In addition to an an NPC in the book you also get a free illustration of the NPC, a PC you like, or some other character of your choice. This is a proper comission, so you'll get a sketch so you can approve the work, ensure that your character is accurate, and you can get specific about poses, props, and other considerations. You'll also receive an 8x10 signed print of your art as long as you live in the U.S. (Depends what shipping ends up costing for international) If it's relevant to the Codex, the art will be used in the module with your permission.

People who contributed $100 or more during the actual fundraiser will also get a piece of art, as an extra thank-you for your generosity. :)

For an example of my recent character art and such, check out my blog at http://moodyillustrator.blogspot.com (http://moodyillustrator.blogspot.com). If you want your art in a particular style, I'll do my best, but what you see there is the style I'm best at.

To people who already contributed the $100 or more: shoot me a private message or email to let me know what you're interested in, and I'll start working up sketches.

To everyone else: You rock just for being here.

Right, and because you never get to play with Ross or the others anymore there was a big blow out of gaming. That's why you and her are in so many of he bonus games.

But Ross also mentioned a fourth of July gaming special, which I think Survival City was part of. Is that all the same time frame or where those seperate events?

Separate. We went down to Springfield over the July 4 weekend last year. We recorded Survival City and a least one Pantheon game that has yet to be released.

EDIT: I/we would be up for doing Skype games, but we're both really busy. Plus we like the live interaction. Although, as I noted above, I may end up playing a live antagonist for some of the Skype games Ross runs. Mostly all I'm involved in now is game design and telling Ross how I would break his scenarios like "Are You There God, It's Me a Monster."

This is a sample archetype from the Tyrant section of the supplement.

The Nativist

Race: All nativists must belong to one of the native tribes of the New World.
Age: Middle age or older. Nativists should be paragons of their class.
Class/Powers: All nativists must belong to a class that blends charismatic leadership with supernatural power. Nativists use their supernatural powers to impress and intimidate their followers into strict devotion to their cause as well as provide evidence of the oracularity of their visions.

Example: Falling Crow is a feared necromancer of the Black Raven Tribe. She is well on her way to becoming a lich. Besides her ability to summon and bind Raven Mocker, she commands an army of devoted followers.

Description: The nativist is a native tribal leader who has a xenophobic hatred for the colonists. She views the eradication of all colonists, including colonists’ physical settlements and colonial social influences, as necessary to cleanse the land and create native utopia. While for some nativists this xenophobic hatred may develop because of a series of wrongs caused by the colonists over an extended time, it may develop overnight for other nativists. Despite the differences in how this xenophobic hatred develops, for all nativists the hatred culminates in the overwhelming obsession to eradicate the colonists and create a native utopia.

Falling Crow had a vision of a society in which all the native tribes lived and traded peacefully with each other. Because her vision did not include the newly arrived colonists, she interpreted the vision as a sign of what would come if the colonists were destroyed. Using her vision as a rhetorical tool and her powerful abilities as a Black Raven necromancer, Falling Crow has raised an army of likeminded natives to achieve her vision.

History: The nativist first appears in a time of uncertainty regarding who controls the land. This time typically occurs after the colonists have established themselves as a potential political, social, and military power in the New World, but before they have come to dominate politically, socially, or militarily. So even though the power of the colonists is waxing while the power of the indigenous tribes is waning, the two groups have not completely switched positions. The nativist rises in attempt to fill this power vacuum.

Any number of events can precipitate the nativist’s rise once the political, social, or military conditions are right. Perhaps the colonists destroy the nativist’s village or kill members of the nativist’s family that cause her to develop a lifelong vendetta against the colonists. Perhaps the nativist, as in the case of Falling Crow, has a vision of a native utopia devoid of colonists. Or perhaps, even, the nativist exhibits signs of fulfilling a tribal myth or oracle’s prophecy. Despite what form the triggering event may take, the time factor in the nativist’s rise is more important to her rise than the event itself.

Once a nativist rises to power, she always follows the same trajectory. She crafts her idea of a native utopia into a powerfully motivating narrative to attract followers. She begins by focusing on others that may share her sentiments toward the colonists and then shifts her focuses to different groups. Finally, once she has a powerful army built up, she will attack the colonists directly.

After her vision, Falling Crow immediately sought the aid of the Black Raven tribe’s most powerful seers and oracles. She explained her vision to the seers and oracles and what she believed the meaning was. She was so persuasive that among many of the seers and oracles, her vision has become a new myth of redemption. Falling Crow used this approval by the seers and oracles to help her attract other followers. As word of her vision spread, natives from different tribes started to seek out Falling Crow to join her ranks of devotees. She has amassed one of the largest native armies in the New World.

Casus Belli: The nativist’s casus belli is wholly dependent on her vision of a native utopia. She bases all of her actions on her vision and justifies all the consequences for those actions as helping to create her narrated utopia. Even if defeated in a battle, the nativist will emphasize the sacrifice slain followers have made for the cause. Although the nativist utopia is based on removing the colonists and their influences from the land through slaughter and destruction, she will not directly attack the colonists until she feels she is strong enough to fight them in open war. In the early stages of her rise to power, she will encourage gorilla fighting that will cause the colonists to respond militarily against native villages. Once the colonists have started to respond, the nativist will portray the colonists as the aggressors and use this portrayal to rally her followers and to attract new ones.

Although her vision was did not show how the colonists would be eradicated, Falling Crow does not hesitate in referring to the vision regarding even the most mundane of political, social, or military questions. This unwavering approach has caused even the most skeptical of Falling Crows followers to refer to Falling Crow’s vision as an inevitable end to the natives struggle against the colonists.

Leadership Style: The nativist is a totalitarian dictator. She has developed a strong cult of personality that she maintains despite whatever strong-arm tactics she employs. The nativist truly believes in her cause and demands total devotion to her cause from her followers. To gain such devotion, the nativist gives speeches and tells stories that empower her followers by representing them as a chosen people, while simultaneously playing on their fears of the colonists. While she works ceaselessly to recruit new followers and maintain her followers devotion, she is unmerciful to followers she feels have turned against the cause and punishes such transgressors severely. She often uses these punishments to serve as examples to her other followers and has the other followers carry out the punishment as tests of faith.

Falling Crow is quickly developing into a totalitarian dictator herself. While she initial sought out seers and oracles to confirm her vision, she has grown suspicious of all other natives both in the Black Raven tribe and other tribes that hold positions of power. As an already powerful necromancer, she is not easily intimidated.

Weaknesses: As a dictator, the nativist has two major weaknesses: she closely follows a predetermined course of action that corresponds to her utopian plan and she requires such strict devotion to that plan that she does not completely trust anyone. Politically and rhetorically savvy players could exploit her first weakness by exposing contradictions between the rhetoric the nativist uses to develop her cult of personality and the reality of her and her followers actions. While the nativist first weakness requires careful and patient planning on the players’ part, her second weakness makes her unpredictable both as an opponent and as a leader. She is likely to accuse her followers, even those that appear to be her most trusted advisors, of turning against her or betraying the cause without provocation. Stealthy and diplomatically savvy players could exploit the nativist second weakness by planting a spy in her camp and attempting to get the nativist to turn against her own followers. Directly attacking the nativist or her army, however, is ill-advised because of the devotion of her followers.

While Falling Crow’s meeting with the top seers and oracles and convincing them of the prophetic nature of her vision has become the stuff of legends, what few people know is that a number of seers and oracles disagreed with both Falling Crows vision and her interpretation of it. During the meeting, Falling Crow accepted this disagreement, but began systematically executing those that disagreed shortly afterward. She has been careful to hide her involvement in the deaths of these seers and oracles and the remaining seers and oracles have devoted themselves to the cause either out of actual belief or fear. If any of the seers and oracles that disagreed with Falling Crow could be found, they could perhaps damage her strong cult of personality by convincing powerful devotees to turn against Falling Crow despite whatever repercussions they would incur.

Am I sensing an RPPR dragoncon "offsite" meeting in the works?  Maybe we can move one of the arc dream midnite games.

Should we go with the hipster and world famous "Clermont Lounge"  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clermont_Lounge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clermont_Lounge)?  Or the bar made famous by Motley Crue, Tattletales?  Or the high class ( and high priced ) downtown Cheetah?
This isn't even bringing in the Oasis or the Showbar family of adult themed entertaiment venues into the equation.

I guess I better do some research on the subject...

That looks AMAZING.  The only possible feedback I could have is that the "Compatible with 4E Dungeons and Dragons" font isn't quite as epic as the rest.  By no means a problem, but I feel like there might be room for a slight improvement with a slightly different font.  Though I have absolutely no suggestions or any real complaints about the current one...

The weapons sticking out the side of the logo is pretty sweet.

Thanks! I'm really feeling the weapons idea, but they definitely need some messing with before they're finished. Ross thinks they need to be bigger and fewer, I'm thinking they need to be thinner and more spread out. We'll see how it actually works in various sizes and iterations when I have a chance to mess with it this weekend.

If anyone is curious, the design is inspired by Pathfinder's excellent logotype (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DZlbvVly4yU/TBJZJBU0RhI/AAAAAAAAAic/2U3A9cPPlsQ/s320/PathfinderRPGLogo_500.jpg), Dragon Age's clever use of grunge texture (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DZlbvVly4yU/TBJZfYk4p0I/AAAAAAAAAio/qXjX74VNxlc/s320/wardens_quest_logo.png) and silhouette, and this awesome painting (http://www.jonfoster.com/#goto=illustration-1&viewimage=39) by Jon Foster, who is a badass art machine. Is there any interest in the process of concepting and designing the logo? I could post all my early ideas and variants that are currently hidden in an Illustrator file in another thread if anyone cares to see them.

I totally agree. I was trying for something that roughly matches the font used on official 4e books, but I think I will try some variants with more awesome font in that space. It's also slightly misaligned from where i wanted it, which I didn't notice on account of 3AM. Oops!  :-[

There appears to be a faint white outline between the red letters "Codex of War" and the black background of the logo.

Am I just seeing things?

Also, do the words "Compatible with 4E Dungeons and Dragons" need to be a part of the logo, or could they just be featured prominently on the cover, but away from the logo itself? I personally think the logo looks good, and having that floating reminder so close just takes away from the logo's power.

I already emailed this to Ross and Ean, but my suggestion was to shrink the "Compatible with..." text and then center it under the logo. Right now, I think the text commands too much attention because it is as long as the logo itself.

Yes, you're seeing .jpg artifacts. I'll post a cleaner .gif version in the next update.

I don't believe they have to be part of the logo, but I wanted to address them at the same time and include them in a version for Ross to use online. (So people know what the book is for right away.) They'll likely be prominently featured on the cover in a way that visually separates them from the logo.

I think at this point, we're talking Western time... but still midnight! :D

That counts, right?

Hopefully in the next 30 minutes or so. I want to get a glance at the Codex before I go night-night.

I think the New World Page (http://slangdesign.com/rppr/the-new-world-free-4e-dd-campaign-setting/) could be reorganized, perhaps with a list of all the AP episodes on a separate page. A separate page for the images would help as well.

but what do i know im just a man that makes icees ::::(

yeah I will revise the new world page. Add all the new art to the gallery, update with all the episodes released so far etc.

Well, it's 12:30 (hawaii time?) and the the Codex is exported and being sent off to Ross as I type. I think he may have gone to sleep, but as a preview I'll post the cover and a couple of pages here so you can see how the final product looks.

Spoiler tags because I'm posting big, juicy preview images.

The Cover

I really like the art but I have to ask...why is there a dwarf with a baseball cap on the cover?

Wearing what appears to be a London Fog coat. Took me a little to notice what you where talking about.

It was supposed to be like a civil-war cap. Guess it doesn't read. :(

It's done. Ross is just getting it uploaded to the server and getting a page set up for it I guess.

I'm British so that's probably where the loss in translation came from.

The bookmarks on the PDF don't work, they're all set to go to the cover.

Also, a few things which should be in the ToC aren't (at least Im assuming they should be), only ones I saw were Jack Quicksilver in Adventurers, and The Dread Pirates in Fog of War.

Bookmarked version (http://www.4shared.com/document/h7gzUoTM/Codex_of_War__A_New_World_Camp.html)
 - went through and did the bookmarks and the links in the ToC, havent tried putting in the other things into the ToC yet though cause editing text in acrobat is a bitch and I don't really know how yet lol.

Amazing job guys - thanks for giving the rest of us a chance to share in your story.

To be honest, I used to say that Eberron 'was 4th edition' just as Greyhawk 'was 2nd' ... but with the New World AP's (and the increasingly amazing) PDFs, I feel that TNW has become the campaign that I 'dream in' when penning characters or adventures.

I'd like to make a toast to all of the RPPR players: 'Thank You for the memories, both future and past. Cheers!'

Thanks for letting me know. :)

I'll take care of the bookmarks and stuff. It's automatic through the InDesign file I used to put the thing together, must just be glitching or something. I'll post here when it's updated.

Just when I finished messing with illustrator to get those in there, oh well, I probably screwed it up by doing that anyway. It gained 5mb and all I did was put in 2 lines of text.

I was wondering the same thing!

What does everyone like/use about the Codex?

What could use improvement?
