: Under The Red Mountain [Pathfinder: 2-4 players]
: Dogfish May 05, 2010, 06:56:13 AM
Game Title: Under The Red Mountain
System: Pathfinder
Players Wanted: Frankly I'd be happy with any number however the more you get the slower the posting rate, so stick to topic title for now.
Posting Rate: At least one every other day, more (including PMs/e-mails) are of course welcome.
Special Rules: I dislike Pathfinders 1 skill rank per hit die skill system, beyond first level it will be ignored. Alignment is not mandatory but in its place I'd like a small paragraph detailing your characters normal motives.
Advancement Rules: Levels will be granted, not exp. If you wish to play a wizard request the items you would like to make when we get to that point.

Hey there fellow forum-goers. Most of you won't know who I am but a small number will. I used to post a lot on another forum, TSE, in which I participated in several PbP games and have one that's just shy of it's one year anniversary. I've slowly been building a game world by running campaigns and short-lived games in various locales and trying to draw everything together. There is a vague meta-plot but it is unlikely to come into play until the characters themselves have stumbled upon it. I am being open about this because I don't want you to despair when it rears it's ugly head in game. There is some fluff that you guys can request but it's not necessary to know.

Now for my game I'd like everyone to play Goblinoids (goblins/hobgoblins as played from the bestiary) that have lived in the same series of tunnels all their lives. I know this doesn't give a lot of room for backstory but I've found in the past that Play-by-Posts are excellent for character development as it plays out and that with the slow pace it's hard for everyones backstory to get a moment to shine that's not in the way.

I know so far this may seem a little negative in it's presentation but I have high hopes for the game and hell look at it this way, how often do you get to play a goblin in a potentially 'morally ambiguous' party?

Gah, how many games are you running now in this setting at once?  Three?

And why must I be tempted to participate in EVERY SINGLE ONE?

...If I think of a good character concept, I'll send it your way.  You bastard.  :P

What can I say I enjoy it. I'll put you down as a maybe then.

I would love to participate, but I don’t want to over-commit myself. I have 2 RPOL games and I am hopefully going to be playing the M&M game here. I wouldn’t want to drag the game down, even though I am a pretty frequent poster.

If it seems like you might be a little short, I would like to join, but I just can’t promise to post every day.
Every other day should be fine though.

Let me know if you think I would fit.

Like I said every other day is fine. The community here is relatively small so I don't expect an attendence equivalent to other larger forums. I'd be glad to have you.

Great, sounds good.

When you say goblins from the monster manual, are you only referring to race (meaning we still pick stats and classes) or are you referring to exactly as listed in the MM?

If we are just restricted to race, but everything else is open, how many stat points do we start with?
: Re: Under The Red Mountain [Pathfinder: 2-4 players]
: Dogfish May 06, 2010, 03:35:06 PM
It's the character creation using monsters as PCs rules, go wild. These may be different in the Pathfinder beastiary, I'll post the rules if you need them.

If there is still room and you are still trying to do this I would like to join. I haven't played pathfinder since alpha but It would be fun.
also What pointbuy/stat rules are you using?

Still room and I'm still trying to do this. You can roll stats. If I can't trust your rolls at the start of the game I can't trust your rolls in the game, I'd rather everyone was just honest with themselves.

I remembered the dice roller, but I couldn't remember how it worked.
Searched dice roller on the fourms and found the command. The command is : dice xdy  : without the spaces between the colons
Now to roll my Stats correctly I am doing 3d6 in order so dont be suprised if my stats suck.

The standard rules are roll 4d6 and get rid of the lowest die but if you'd rather stick with those stats then all the more power to you...though not to your character.

I think you are right and I will not stick with those stats and do 4d6.
Lets do this right this time.
str Rolling 4d6:
(2+2+1+1): Total = 6

dex Rolling 4d6:

con Rolling 4d6:

Much better stats there, even an 18. Would you like some help working through the rest?
: Re: Under The Red Mountain [Pathfinder: 2-4 players]
: KallMeKip May 14, 2010, 03:32:10 PM
I think i got it now. I have just always used point buy so I got a bit hung up on the rolling for stats thing. I am going to be a Goblin wizard (due to the 18 int)
: Re: Under The Red Mountain [Pathfinder: 2-4 players]

Can't fault your choices there, though you may want to have a look (if you haven't already) at the subtle updates Pathfinder have put in place. It may sway you off wizard.

So it looks like they changed the focused schools, you can have an item instead of a Familiar, Fly is a skill now, and they cut alot of spells and balanced the schools out.
: Re: Under The Red Mountain [Pathfinder: 2-4 players]
: Dogfish May 15, 2010, 07:02:17 AM
Well fly being a skill doesn't give you flight. It just means that if you already have a way of flying you can control it better (essentially like ride).
: Re: Under The Red Mountain [Pathfinder: 2-4 players]
: KallMeKip May 15, 2010, 11:49:32 AM
thats what i thought, is the fly skill needed for the fly spell also or just wings and things.
: Re: Under The Red Mountain [Pathfinder: 2-4 players]
: Dogfish May 15, 2010, 12:38:22 PM
I believe the Fly spell gives you an effective fly speed/ability(clumsy, poor, etc.), which is essentially the function of the skill. Not really something to worry about at first level.
: Re: Under The Red Mountain [Pathfinder: 2-4 players]
: KallMeKip May 15, 2010, 04:15:23 PM
It appears that pathifinder has changed skill point allocation, So i put 1 point at first level and if its a class skill then I get a +3 bonus? Second of all are there any Specific Crafts or Professions that would fit your setting more than others? I was thinking Craft Alchemy and Profession Scribe. But it says that goblins dont like reading so I might not take profession scribe.
: Re: Under The Red Mountain [Pathfinder: 2-4 players]
: Dogfish May 15, 2010, 06:38:35 PM
Yes, you have to put 1 in class skills but at the alt rules bit I pointed out that beyond first level you can put ranks in everything. I can't contribute much on the craft or profession but you live under a mountain that should point out some options.
: Re: Under The Red Mountain [Pathfinder: 2-4 players]

I ended up taking craft weapon to make my own arrows. Seemed like something he would do.

Would you guys like your own forum? It looks like you are getting to that point. You can still leave recruitment open for a bit.

E-mail me it, a-dunbar@hotmail.com, or post it here if you don't mind that.

Arje I'll send you a PM later in the week, once I have every sheet in. It would be a great help thanks.

Wait i came into one speed bump the goblin description says that goblins get a , a –1 penalty to their CMB and CMD. what do those mean and do small creatures still  get the -4 to grapple?
: Re: Under The Red Mountain [Pathfinder: 2-4 players]
: Dogfish May 16, 2010, 06:03:01 PM
The -CMB and CMD is for being small, its not just for goblins. The -4...I can't find any rules on so I presume it has just been rolled into the CMB/CMD to keep things simple.

: Vega Baby May 16, 2010, 07:08:24 PM
Just like to let the rest of the potential players know, I'm working on my character as we speak.  It's just taking me a while because I'm playing a Cleric, and the DM has been nice enough to let me create my own deity. However, as it turns out, it is very hard to create a religion from scratch.  ;D

I'll have my character done and in by tomorrow, most likely.

No problem. It's exam/revision time for me at current but I'll find a few spare moments tomorrow (Wednesday) to get the relevent stuff down.

Sorry guys I realise it is infact now Friday and it's not up. It shall be done in a few minutes, yesterday I got dragged out to see Robin Hood (which proceeded to drag on for 2 and a half hours).

Edit: Ok it's all up guys, after the weekend I'll actually introduce the story itself.

Well I just made the first IC post. You could start introducing your character though I understand you may not have a lot to work with now.
