while i was tangentially aware of miniatures war gaming ever since i can remember, i never really got into it. that is until the ____Clicks line of minis came out. i enjoyed the strategy of miniature war gaming but i never had the patience or the dexterity for panting and putting together of minis. so when Heroclicks's came out i was thrilled. i played both heroclicks and mechwarrior clicks right up until the death of the original wizkids games company. it wasn't until x wing came out that i even got back into it, even then it was extremely casual gaming.
i figured out early that i loved the underdog niche teams. i would take the worst miniatures in the game and figure out a decent strategy with them. even still i usually only one 25% of the time, but when it did win the results were glorious. gaming with these teams were never boring, you just never knew if things would line up just right and the juggernaut of power would roll over your opponent. the most fun i ever had in a minatures game was sitting down in the worlds championship of mechwarrior with an army of construction mechs and watching the face the players around me had when i set, 8 mechs that were the literal worst in the game across from a single assault mech. or the pleasure of watching it hit them when my trash army force there army into retreat from a mistake or lucky roll of the dice.

to add a twist to this thread i add 2 questions. what is your favorite style of play? and what is your most memorable moment from playing minatures?

General Chaos / Questions about Gen Con?
« on: August 21, 2017, 02:15:44 AM »
Ok so after watching the social medias for the past few days, and wishing i was at gen con, i have finally decided. "to hell with it!" i'm going to gen con in 2018 if i have to foot the entire bill myself! that said, i thought this would be a good time to ask about how much i would need to save to foot this bill. i was thinking of asking the RPPR faithful who went, if they wouldn't mind, to give a round number as to how much they spent at gen con this year (minus what was paid for loot) housing and food costs specifically.

thanks in advance...and here's hoping to see you in august 2018 at gen con

Got a power question for the hive mind - say you found the Silver Arm of Nuada, the god-king of the Tuatha Danann, king of the fae gods and all that good stuff. What would it do?

from what little i know of Gaelic mythology i would say that, depending on how much you wanted to spend, it would be kinda basic. while it could be basic superhuman "stats," the thing he was known for was that he was an expert in how to use any weapon. to that end i would probably stat it out as an equipment gift/or power that increases the tier of all weapon skills probably to a max of extraordinary. meaning while you might be a badass with any sword or gun they are still mortal weapons and bullets still bounce off some supers.

i just finished listening to Super Powered on Audible, it's a great superhero inspired game that gets you thinking about the side effects and other sides of being someone with powers. it's got a large cast of main characters so be prepared for that but all in all if your running anything with superpowers its good fodder for ideas in addition to being an all around good book. anywho buring the lead here, i found out that it started life as a web novel so i thought i would share the link here for all to enjoy.

i'm not sure if this is what your aming for but take a good look at children. children have incredible powers of belief. you could easily add in imaginary friends like those from MAOCT, or you could take fictional childrens programing. heck for that matter you could have a whole area for old and forgotten tv characters

the only other thing i thought of off the top of my head is the delusions from the mentaly unstable.

the power of belief is a strong thing...mabye it can create worlds???

ok after listening to the first two episodes of the base raiders campaign i had a couple of ideas for new flaws that i wanted to run past you guys.

Stressing (Minor): you have an additional stress track, any time you use your powers you take stress. unlike normal stress tracks you only heal this stress when you take an appropriate action. ok i know this needs some work to fully define and flesh out, especially what skills add in stress capacity. but as i listened to Aaron's power i thought about this as an alternative to using charges, as it would only refresh stress or heal consequences if he ate enough nutrients.

Conditional (Minor): to use this power you must have a specific temporary aspect on yourself as defined at the time of character creation. ok this one is simple no aspect no power, i thought about this flaw in relation to an absorber whose other powers are only usable when they have enough juice.

i just finished Warlock Holmes: a Study in Brimstone https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/26150538-warlock-holmes---a-study-in-brimstone
it is a fantastic reworking of Sherlock Holmes as a warlock of some power. combine it with a few of the tales bordering on Mythos and it is great fodder for inspiration of all sorts

this so needs to be a Base Raiders power

RPGs / Base Raiders Q&A
« on: December 08, 2016, 12:33:46 AM »
Ok i have skimmed the forums and can no longer find the thread that used to talk about Base Raiders, and since i am preparing a new campaign and possible blog, and have Questions. but since i am a very flow of thought person i will probably be back posting questions as they (re)occur to me.

Q: where would i find rules on the loot value of powers? i have the Vintage Villainy guide and know how to figure them out there but i am unable to find anything of the sort in the core rule book.
