General Chaos / Re: Favorite Star Trek Era/Movie
« on: January 28, 2010, 10:46:18 AM »
I liked classic and TNG. I was a fan of Star Trek in rerun long before TNG, but I think TNG is my favorite. Never watched a lot of DS9, practically no Voyager or Enterprise. For movies, I'd say Star Trek II or VI for the classics. I didn't love any of the TNG movies.

One thing that cracked me up was when Star Trek Nemesis came out how they were touting the adage that even numbered Trek films don't suck. I think they actually beleived that was just a law of the universe so they didn't have to try hard. I waited for that one of DVD and then just borrowed it from someone. Saved lots of money that way :-)

Hi,

Yeah, they just finished Ravenloft. Took 16 sessions to complete! I keep session logs on the wiki as well http://ethansdndgame.pbworks.com/ We only play every other week and have at times gone more than a month between session where one or another of us got busy. The logs help to refresh everyone of where we are. Again, it takes some time to do, but is fun!

Role Playing Public Radio Podcast / Episode 38

Hi Guys,

Good episode. This one is near and dear to my heart. I'm trying to get this level of immersion through useof NPCs. I try to make everyone that the PC's encounter a "real" person with a name and at least a few personality traits. Then I add that name to my wiki page of all the NPCs. http://ethansdndgame.pbworks.com/Dramatis-Personae Not everyone of them is important, and some may not be encountered again, but at least they are there to add xome flavor. I find this to be rewarding, even though it can take some upkeep.

Ethan

RPGs / Re: Anecdote Megathread

This anecdote comes from my current gaming group. They are a great bunch of guys but tend to shoot first and ask questions later. We were running through the Expedition to Castle Ravenoft super-module. A lot of helpful information is around in various NPCs, many of whom were potential encounters.

*********************************************************************

The party sure showed that Green Hag a thing or two! While she was babbling on and on about "go away" and "the Green God," all it took was a quick cast of Ghoul Touch and a Coup de Grace. After searching the area for the artifact they were told would be here and finding nothing, our intrepid heroes stand staring down at the body of the hag.

Player1: "Maybe we shouldn't have killed it"

Player2: "We can use Speak with Dead to find out if she knew something important."

Player3: "Rebecca doesn't have it memorized, we'll have to cast it tomorrow"

Player1: "Should we try and camp here for the night?"

DM (me): *smiles*

Player3: "I don't think that would be safe. We should head back to town."

Player1: "What if something happens to the body during the night"

Player2: "I take the hag's body back to my room at the Inn to keep it safe for the night"

DM (me): ?????? !!!!!!! ???????

Player1: "You can't take a body to the Inn!"

Player3:  (Flipping through PHB) "Maybe we only need the head"

DM (me): ?????? !!!!!! ????????

Player1: "I don't think the Inn is a good place to try and stash the body, what about the church?"

DM (me): ?????? !!!!!! ????????

Another day. another hag. Staring at the body of Madam Eva the Annis Hag they've just slain.

Player1: "I don't understand why she attacked us?"

DM (me): "Maybe it had something to do with the "Charm Person" wand you tried to use on her."

Player1: "Maybe we shouldn't have killed her"

Player2: "We can use Speak with Dead to find out if she knew anything important."

Player3: "Rebecca doesn't have it memorized, we'll have to cast it tomorrow."

Player2: "We just need the head, right?"

DM (me): *sigh*

RPGs / Re: How much do you game per week?
« on: July 22, 2009, 09:15:30 AM »
My group tries to play every other week. Some of them actually play in several groups so they may play each week. With life getting in the way we average once per month over the last two years for the game I'm running. Most of that is my fault as I've taken several months off before.

General Chaos / Re: CREEPY THREAD OF DOOM

Maze: Picked up Penumbra thanks to your post. Damn DOG is a pain. Finally beat it to death with the hammer from on top of a crate. Next level ran into three and got them with the pick. Not your typical FPS type game, I like it! I found that there is no easy way to take the dogs out when you are on the ground as they run around you, just like real dogs, then you're dead in three bites. When I tried the crate tactic the first time I accidently hit the crate twice instead of the jumping dog and smashed the crate allowing the dog to get me. Very creepy game atmosphere, it makes you weak and scared :-)

Thanks!
