RPGs / Re: Better Angels questions

No problem! ;D Been trying to study up on the rules recently anyway. Hopefully getting into the playtest for Caleb's No Soul Left Behind, so I gotta know my stuff.

Wish I hadn't moved from Arkansas to Alaska or I'd try to get in it as well.

RPGs / Better Angels questions
« on: May 19, 2014, 11:28:43 PM »
I had a few questions about Better Angels, if anyone willing to help me. I had an idea on some of the answers, but I was a little confused so I figured it best to ask.

When a Demon gives a Master Dice, does that Master Dice stay forever or does it disappear after it's used?

When taking Damage, does it go Courage, Open, and then Sly for Hellbinders or can you choose Sly or Open? Also, can you lose more than one point in an attack?

I'm loving the Spared and the Spoiled campaign, but I was a little confused about something. I couldn't find anything mentioned about weapon advantages going to damage. I've heard it a few times on the podcast, but is that just meaning width?

What level of Demonic Device was the Laptop in Spared and the Spoiled?

I had an idea for a Demonic Device but I'm not totally sure on the cost. It's based around the Alchemy power. It's a well designed squirt gun, with a pump that fires the water and a backpack to contain the ammo, like a flamethrower without the flame. The power comes from being able to change the water into another substance, whether it be acid, glue, tear gas, etc. What I'm wondering is if a cost of 3 Generosity would be right or if it would be something more like 1 Generosity and maybe 2 Knowledge since it could be used to attack using Lava, Acid, etc?

Does using a Demonic Device invoke a Demon?

That's it for now. All help appreciated.

I'm on episode 4. Love it so far. Ross keeps getting the harsh end when it comes to his power. It can be used at range, but he keeps having to touch. Unseen Chupacabra is my favorite.

Yeah, when I made my character, I was using the BA playtest draft. I eventually noticed after I read the final print version.

So long as the Unseen Chupacabra continues to reap destruction upon the city, I'm cool.

RPGs / Re: THE QUEUE: Whacha got in YOUR gaming pipeline
« on: May 17, 2014, 06:16:17 PM »
At the moment, I'm running several games over Skype.

DC Adventures (M&M3e)- Orange Lanterns have begun invading various planets. The Justice League is dispatched to help various worlds and protect their own. The players are various new recruits to the JLA and get caught up in a battle over their heads when several large portable Orange Lantern batteries land on Earth, summoning up alien constructs to defend them. The PCs were attempting to secure Styker Island when one crashes there and Lex Luthor emerges wearing a Orange Lantern Ring. So far they were trounced royally, but plan on trying to make another run at it. It's a fairly standard, and not too imaginative but the group likes it.

Werewolf the Forsaken - The same group that does the DC Adventures game. We rotate what we play on a week by week basis as half the group really likes WoD, and the other half would rather play something else. The group plays a pack in Detroit. They're trying to prevent an all out war between the Werewolves and Vampires of the city. This isn't going so well because of some of their own actions, so at the moment, they're just trying to gather up allies and protect their own territory, since it looks like they're about to be right in the middle of a throw down.

A Song Of Ice and Fire Roleplaying - I've set it about a year before the events of Game of Thrones. They've created a Noble House  in the Westerlands and received a land grant from Tywin Lannister. Their original plan was to redevelop the land and clear it of Bandits. This was going well, but then a player dropped out, and a new player joined. They agreed to let him play the formers character, who was the heir of the House. Some bad decisions later, and they've pissed of another House in the Westerlands who have antagonized a conflict between the Player's House and their northern neighbors from the Riverlands, all while funding Bandits and Mercenaries to invade other parts of their lands while their troops are occupied on the northern border.

I'm also running a one on one game for my wife using All Flesh Must Be Eaten, specifically Fistful o' Zombies.

I have several planned games I'm working on

I'm trying out Interface Zero 2.0, which is the Cyberpunk setting for Savage Worlds with my wife as soon as we finish her campaign with Fistful o' Zombies. Not entirely sure what the plot will be yet.

I have a Mortals/God-Machine Chronicles game planned out. It will be set in the Ozarks, though the place will be a bit more hillbilly than it actually is. I may even set it a bit back in time, but not any earlier than the 80's. The group live in a town a few miles away from cult's compound. I'm going to ask one of the players to add a few specifics to their background. Mainly that their parents are recruited into the cult, and they took the PC's mentally disturbed sister with them. The parents end up dead, and the PC becomes the legal guardian. The cult wont hand over the sister though, and the local authorities claim jurisdictinal issues and manpower prevent them from just raiding the compound. The cult wont give up the girl without a fight though, because she's a Stigmatic and can see the God-Machines workings and his servants. They fear it, and worship some Demon or whatever, that has led them up into the hills to be free of it's influence.

Once the Werewolf game ends, the players asked me to run a All Flesh Must Be Eaten game for them. I'm doing one on a cruise ship. We've named the campaign "Love Boat of the Dead". The ship has a full on outbreak, and the boat has already been ordered back to US waters and into quarantine due to 3/4 of the passengers and crew coming down with some virus. The infected have died and come back to life now. The players are trapped at the rear of the boat, with the ship still moving along, but no ones heard from the captain or command crew in almost a day.

Only War (from the Warhammer 40k line) will happen eventually, with the plot being the arrival of the full Tyranid Hive Fleet. It's the end of the Imperium of Man, but maybe the characters can find a way to survive.

Any plans for non-mortal/non-hunter World of Darkness?

Ever plan for any of the Savage Worlds settings like Necessary Evil or Savage World of Solomon Kane?

Any more creepypasta inspired games?

RPGs / Savage Worlds Heavy Weapons
« on: May 16, 2014, 03:00:04 PM »
I was helping someone with a character sheet last night for Interface Zero 2.0 and I noticed for the Gyroc Pistol had no armor penetration. I figured that maybe it was just included in the Heavy Weapon quality since it counts as a Heavy Weapon. All it said was that it can damage Vehicles or other things with Heavy Armor. I realize that it does more damage than other pistols, but shouldn't it still have Armor Penetration? Am I just missing the rule somewhere? Does anyone think it would over power Heavy Weapons to give them some Armor Penetration?

I have the Deluxe edition of Savage Worlds, if that helps.

RPGs / Re: Scion and combat
« on: May 21, 2013, 06:59:48 PM »
Scion was one of those games that really could have gone well but, unfortunately came at the wrong time.  White Wolf's merger with CCP happened in November of 2006 and Scion Hero released April 2007. Most of Hero was finished before the merger so much of the editing and management decisions were done by White Wolf.  After that CCP seemed to have no fucks to give.

A lot of the WoD books suffered but so did Scion. There was no playtesting that I knew of. I am happy that everything has started to get back on track for WW. They are now Onyx Path and have a lot more oversight on their own stuff, including public playtesting and taking advice for content from the forums. Along with all the other awesome stuff we're getting now (God Machine Chronicles, Demon the Frutang, Exalted 3e), Scion is getting a second edition.

Really, most of the problems stemmed from CCP. They only acquired WW so that they could make the MMO, which is on hold again or at least it's not been updated for over a year. CCP was highly secretive about everything when it came to the books. Most of the time there was never a release date until it was released. Along with this there was no playtesting and from what I can tell they fired all of the editors. Don't believe me? Check out the original version of Geist. There's a 50 something page thread of nothing but errata for it on the WW forum.

They revealed more info on the MMO this month. at Eve Fanfest. they did not allow cameras because it is mostly proof of concept gameplay and did not want people thinking it was farther along than it was.

I'd heard about that but, again, that's what they did at The Grand Masquerade. It's a constant push back with CCP. They acquired the rights but, they don't want to set aside enough time and developers to do anything with it.  I understand EVE is their flagship but, WoD online is going to sink before it's maiden voyage if they don't get their act together a little bit.  Their engine, graphics, gameplay, etc will be outdated and they wont get the subscription numbers they're hoping for.

It's the problem with most MMOs. Bad execution and unrealistic expectations.  Same thing with most industries these days.  Marvel tried to release an RPG but when it didn't outsell D&D they said screw it and sold off the rights to Margaret Weis Productions, who has now decided not to continue to publish it.  Of course, the MWP system had its problems, namely the fear of 20 sided dice, and a lack of variety.

I finally got to listen to the podcast on it. I'm in the process of moving almost 5000 away so I'm a bit behind. I'm very intrigued by the game.  I wish I could have contributed to the kickstarter before it ended. I also wish I had met you guys at some point. I used to spend a lot of time in Springfield with some family before I'd head up to Bellair. You guys seem like you'd be fun to game with. Well, good bye people of the near-Ozarks.

You should have posted something about it. I'm fine with doing a RPPR meetup in Springfield if some fans are actually able to make it.

I would have loved it. I don't have a lot of trouble finding groups but, good groups are another story.

I am no longer allowed to run Call of C'thulu games where it slowly becomes apparent that all the horrors are actually pokemon.

Wait, What? Why not? XD

I also wish to know the answer to this. I would just be more excited when it came out. Also I would want to invent pokeballs. Cosmic horror in my pocket. :o

That's when a Call of Cthulhu game switches systems from either the O.R.E. path and you have a Monsters or Wild Talents game, or the D20 path and you have a D20 Modern game. That being said, I would be intrigued to see Pokemon done in Call of Cthulhu.

See how many you can catch before you become a drooling pile of insanity

I've been working on a concept for a while where the players will be refugees stranded on to a world they got offloaded onto after a big war between humans and some alien race, that I have yet to create.  The whole idea is that they are a group of nobodies, stuck on an unfamiliar world where they have to band together to survive and thrive.

The world where this will take place is going to be a city that covers the entire planet (think Coruscant or Nar Shadaa). The rich citizens live up top, and all the poor, criminals, and other undesirables live many levels lower.  One big theme is that they are complete outsiders. They have no citizenship on the planet so they can't get upper level housing, most reputable merchants wont sell to them, and they can't get honest work that doesn't involve heavy labor and low pay.  Further more, even the criminal element has little respect or care for them. After all, they just got here and are just easy prey in their eyes.

The group will be given an area and some resources to work with. I think this game will give my players that don't like combat heavy characters a chance to shine. Technology and Medical skills will be very valuable here and, those that still want some combat, wont have to try hard to find it.

I've wanted to do it for a while but, I've had a hard time deciding which system would be good for it. I liked Traveller but the way character creation was set up, even the alternate ways, didn't seem to fit my concept. Finally, I downloaded the D6 Space pdf from DrivethruRPG and remembered I liked it when I used to play Star Wars D6.  It's a decent system and easy enough to learn, plus I have experience with it.  If anyone wants to suggest another one I might look into, go for it.

So does anyone like it so far? Any critiques or suggestions yet? Any questions?

One thing I would like help for is a few concepts for aliens. There wont be too many, and only a few of those might even be playable but, I feel like it adds a little bit more life to a sci-fi setting.  I'm trying to avoid the things I find somewhat lazy from settings like take earth animal and turn it into a bipedal humanoid or here is super psychic race.

Mostly I'm just looking for concept ideas and maybe some background in a sentence or two. No help with stats needed.

Any other help is always welcome.

I've had three different women run games. Hell I think by this point I've ran games for more women than men. Might just be the area you're in.
