RPGs / Re: D&D Next

I think I share a lot of the same thoughts with the layering that I just don't have as much time to play (specifically run) games anymore.  Most of anything I would do would be one-shots anyway, and I think that those are much more intriguing as investigative horror.  All that put together, I haven't bothered to look at it because I don't think I will be running or playing anything in it anytime soon....

I've run into an interesting issue lately and wondering if anyone has found a solution:

Whenever I am playing online, my game will crash the first time that I try to start a mission (regardless of whether hosting or not) and the first time that alarms are raised (regardless of hosting or not).  That said, it works fine in single player offline.  I have tried Google, but to no avail....

I just noticed this and I don't see an PbP actual game thread. Are you still doing this/have you started?

If this is still a thing and hasn't started, I am interested.

Nothing has been done or shared so far as I know....

Got a podcast manager on my phone and am going to start working through a horrendously large backlog of games/campaigns I have been meaning to listen to (namely Know Evil).  It is odd to think on how I have been listening so long and yet still fallen behind (but I guess that is life)....

There is no standard price point, it ranged across the board. Minecraft was ten bulks, which I did buy into. The Warhammer Game is 65. Planetary Annihalation is 70. The Forest and Stomping Land are, what, 25? 30?

Yes I suppose I should amend my statement, you are totally right that there is no standard, I guess my thought was coming from that I saw this as the most (but then again, even if it is the mode it says nothing about mean or median).

I think the last point you made is a really good one, I feel that (somewhat like I do with KickStarter) that what I would prefer is that this is best for smaller studios that are genuinely working to constantly improve the game and need the capital to do so.  Having an early buy-in is a way for them to get money (and feedback) while at the same time offering at least something in return to "investors" so to speak (I know it's a different concept).  I guess my main concern or worry is that as it grows, that other groups will start latching onto this model, flood the market with crap that never really goes anywhere and we miss out on helping with the gems because there is a bunch to sort through.

From my understanding or experience (and I am certainly no expert), Minecraft was one of the first games that really did this, or at least the first one to be big doing it, and I think at the time it was the perfect example of what I would like to see.  Something that is new and interesting, seeking to really find its place and buy putting in the money, you get to be a part of that.  Granted I didn't buy in until retail, but I remember watching it and tracking it at the time.....

Anyway, those are some of my largely un-researched thoughts....

General Chaos / Early/Alpha Access Games

Opinions on this?  I have heard varied opinions on what seems to be the new trend (especially for a lot of indie games) of charging people for accessing alpha builds while they are still in development and was wondering what you all thought.  Do you favor it or not?  What about what seems to be the standard pricepoint of about $15 (USD)?  Just looking to see where the conversation goes....

Is the smoking dragon from the New World? I keep thinking that he's Tom's old dragonborn character.

Older than that.  Not even sure if it was from a recorded game...?

I would be down.  Would have to get a brief run down reminder on any special rules.  But totally interested.

Hit me up for some Payday 2 (if you like).  Stoked for the co-op stuff and had some fun times (surprisingly) with just random people....

Not doing much these days, so feel free to message me on Steam (mckma) if you are looking for another person, and I'll probably be in for a few games....

General Chaos / Re: Introduction

Hello folks. This would be my first foray into the forums of anything, ever, so that's fun. I really don't know what to say, so I guess I'll go into a bit about me?
I've been around gaming, most of my life, my dad was a 1st ed dnd DM for as long as I could recall. Uh let's see. I probably got into it, 5 years ago? I started with Star Wars d20. Since then I've been part of my dads group, which has changed to include my great uncle, a buddy we met at a local con, and we just lost someone to a move. My first game I ran as a gm was savage worlds, in which I butchered the hell out of the initiative because I was lazy. Then I got comfy with that, ran a few games. Then I discovered my love for Cthulhu gaming wise. Who isn't a fan of lovecraft? I'm not wholly experienced as much as the rest of my group in terms of being a gm, but I've got tons of ideas and now the time to write them all down and horrify the group. Going to try base raiders next. Good luck me? I'll try and start posting some of my more successful one shots as scenarios for you guys to use. Anyways, now that's over with, what's next?

My name is Josh. Not Steve. Definitely not Steve Carlsberg.

I started listening to RPPR probably 3 years ago and have listened to everything at least once. I keep a steady stream of campaigns on my phone as, at my job, I listen to music and what not all night. So you guys have been filling my ear holes with this amazingness for a good while now. Thank you to everyone who is a part of this thing. It truly has been some of the best laughs I've ever had, and I'll continue to be an willing guinea pig for whatever Ross cooks up, I'll fall into the hands of whatever deathtrap Caleb sets down, I will even play victim to whatever Aaron lures us into, and I'll run screaming from whatever monster Tom throws at us like a kindergarden food fight, with a smile on my face. Or not. You guys are the best. Or maybe the worst. Not sure. Probably both. :D

What's up with this jerk?  I say we make death threats....

(JK, saw your FB post, so had to poke some fun)

Welcome!  Hope you enjoy your stay!
