Grimrock is a good game.

Some of the monsters are a bit obnoxious though, since in later parts, there's no way to fight them 'fairly' without eating casualties, necessitating a lot of dancing around to take advantage of the way the game is set up.

Oh, feel free to point out my build (lacking as it is) of the RPPR dragon. Also a rather large temple and a pyramid in that general locale.

General Chaos / Re: What Vidja games are you playing?

Having played on my friend's PS3 and my laptop both, I can tell you that whatever lag is coming through is absolutely NOT the frame lock.
I fucking love Dark Souls and the entire design philosophy of it being a balls-hard game with a relatively complex combat system and a steep learning curve appeals to me quite a bit. The same thing in a tabletop game would probably cause me to hate it. Different strokes, I suppose.

Leaving aside my opinion that aside from a few shining gems (such as the last boss fight), most of the game isn't legitimately difficult or challenging, what makes you say that the combat system is complex?

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition.  ;D
My computer really isn't specced to handle it or I need to download one of the fan patches, because it chugs like a choo-choo, but the nice side is I've gotten good at parrying, what with the extra long animation frames. Absolutely digging the game though, been watching a blind LP on Something Awful and it's still fun to try and muscle through it myself with my giant Ultra Greatsword.

It's locked to 30 frames on the PC (just like the console version) but there's patches to unlock that.

I do not like Dark Souls or its design philosophies. I hope you enjoy the game more than I did.

Put a chest somewhere. Gimme the coordinates of said chest.  I shall fill the chest with goodies.

General Chaos / Re: Disney poised to take over the world.

It's good to see you guys aren't freaking out like people elsewhere in the internet.

I'm kinda looking forward to see Star Wars handled by people other than George Lucas.

Also, Disney is going to get the special effects resources Lucas built up.  We may see more of it in use through Disney's various studios.  Let's just hope they don't go overboard like with the Star Wars prequels.

There's no reason to freak out. Disney is very good about not stuffing undue things in their franchises; you don't see Donald Duck creeping into Wolverine comics, and you won't see Darth Mickey in the new Star Wars.

Even more than that, Disney, through a variety of subsidiaries, owns a *ton* of separate studios that make a wide variety of moves, including horrible slasher films. With so many resources available to them, and fairly competent managerial staff, they could do a lot of good to the franchise.

Especially if they keep George 'Jar Jar Binks Was A Good Idea' Lucas out of it.

Yeah, it sucks.

Since I'm around fairly frequently (or at least I look in), let me know when you are/will be on and I can use my creative mode powers to give you what you lost.

To whatever dickbag thought it would be fun to punch a hole through the bedrock in the middle of our ravine and cover it in what appeared to be a water elevator leading down to a bunch of glowstone, thanks! You're a fucking pal. Didn't expect to lose all my shit down an infinite void where it cannot be regained.

That is awful.

RPGs / Re: Wanted - Killer Horror Scenario
« on: October 30, 2012, 12:33:30 PM »
Update -

I ran the horror game last Saturday. My players wanted me to run it through Fear Itself and I decided that I would jump into the deep end and run it without published materials barring the Fear Itself core book and the Book of unremitting horror for inspiration. I started with a vague concept of the players being at a Halloween party on that exact day when the power cut out.

I'll simply put that the game didn't go to plan. For the Players it was hilariously fun and they had a great time. For me it was a horrifying display of cat herding and I questioned ever running a horror game for this group again. In short, I lost more stability than any of the players and I was running the damn thing.

I'll add more in a later when I have more time.

Man. The Book of Unremitting Horror is, second only to Findley's 'Van Ritchen's Guides' series, my absolute FAVORITE take on a 'monster manual'.

Call of Cthulhu is easy to learn.

Vampire: The Masquerade has interesting book-art/layouts.

Delta Green has very good flavor text.

Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition has nice art.

Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader have amusing guns.

BESM has good ideas.
