Steam Holiday Sale 2012
« on: December 22, 2012, 12:18:07 PM »
Figured we could have this to post our buys, ask questions about games, etc.

I'll start off.  Thoughts on F.E.A.R.?  It's pretty cheap and I've taken a look at it over the past few sales but haven't purchased it.  Recommendations on it (looking at the whole pack potentially)?

I quite enjoyed the FEAR trilogy - I thought 2 was the best but if you like horror and pew pew pew, you should like it.

Everyone should get Hotline Miami, FTL, Legend of Grimrock, Lone Survivor, and Amnesia.

Another question on the F.E.A.R. thing.

It looks (to me) that if you buy the games individually it is actually cheaper than buying the package.  The package lists 2 DLC that seem to be included in the first game as part of the Steam release, but it's tough for me to make that call...

For the next week or so Legend of Grimrock is part of the humble bundle 7 so I'd check that out before buying it via steam.

Never mind, I'm just dumb and can't add numbers properly in my head.  I'll grab it even though perhaps I shouldn't... :P

EDIT:  Also, Steam is so devious in storing your credit card info for you.  So easy to impulse buy...

One thing to note: The expansion packs/DLC for the first FEAR game are NOT canon with the second and third game.

Meh, I don't care too much, probably won't actually play them.  I was just curious about getting the most "bang for my buck" so to speak.  Anyway, for those who haven't seen it and either want to be proud/sad at how much they own:

http://www.steamcalculator.com/

Apparently the "average" that they've calculated is over $1000.  But this excludes sales prices....

EDIT:  Wow, I just did a rough estimate, and Steam sales/HIB are more crazy than I thought.  The amount of money I have spent on games for Steam is only about 25% of that reported by Steam Calculator...

Unfortunately, because of Christmas I'm broke for the rest of this month and won't be able to enjoy the Steam sale.

I second Hotline Miami and Amnesia as must-buy titles.

I will also throw out a reccomendation for Crusader Kings II if you like Grand Strategy games or are a Medieval history buff, Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition if you own a controller for the PC and like hard games, The Secret World if you wanna try out a fun and unique MMO, and Chivalry: Medieval Warfare if you like having fun.

I picked up Legend of Grimlock and the DLC packs for Civilization V. I'm thinking about Secret World since now they went with the Guildwars route of once you buy the game you don't pay monthly fees, it's also the closest CoC MMO out there.
You've been sucked out of the airlock into the black. Roll all the dice on the table for damage.

Played some Grimrock earlier (got it as part of HIB 7).  SUPER fun, thoroughly recommend the bundle, if just for that...

Grimrock is a good game.

Some of the monsters are a bit obnoxious though, since in later parts, there's no way to fight them 'fairly' without eating casualties, necessitating a lot of dancing around to take advantage of the way the game is set up.

I would love to actually play Grimrock, but it always crashes after playing for two minutes. It kind of frustrating! Damnable mac trouble.

Binding of Isaac plus its expansion for $2.  I can't stress enough how great this game is.

I picked up Legend of Grimrock, Dungeons of Dredmoor, Hotline Miami, and Spec Ops: The Line.
I didn't come here to win. I came to make friends.
