Fuzzworld: Dan's Exodus
« on: June 06, 2010, 11:21:52 AM »
Ok, for those of you who listen to the main podcast (which is what, nobody?  ;)), I want to know what the gaming scene in San Diego is like.  I'll be staying with family close to the navy base for awhile until I land a job (College degree don't fail me now) and get out on my own.

And yes, I realize a city that large is going to have many different scenes.  I just want to get a sampling.

While I don't really know for sure, I think your chances are pretty good with UCSD and SDSU (universities/colleges tend to create gaming).  I have a friend at UCSD and I'll see if he knows anything about it...

Not really sure about San Diego, but I would guess that you can find some gamers and games in San Diego.

I live north of SD, in Oceanside and there is a local meetup group that meets for D&D 4th Ed. Strangely enough, they do so on Tuesdays so I haven't been able to attend any of the meet-up groups.

There is a local comic shop called Pair-A-Dice that will host space for games on most days of the week. I've gone a few times, but I've never been brave enough to approach any of the guys there because they seem rather "clannish" and I've taken Ross' "no gaming is better than bad gaming" advice to heart...

Anyway, I wish you luck out here. San Diego is really a very nice place to live, although it can get a bit expensive. The weather is mostly beautiful and there are some really nice women to look at!

Sadly I havent been exposed much to the larger rpg community here.  I have been playing with the same group of people for the past year and only been into pair-a-dice once.  I do enjoy living out here though, so welcome to town whenever you arrive.

I would be game for that.  Hell, I'll even run a one-shot!  Not that you guys know my GMing skills or anything.

I would be down like James Brown!

I've been working on a CoC scenario for some time now... I think I just need to finish the damn thing and not worry about the particulars.

Update:  Leaving town on the 3rd, making a weekish long road trip to see friends and family on the way out there.  I plan to be in SD by the 13th.

It won't be the same without you Dan. Now when Ross screws over the PCs their cries of outrage won't have that voice of authority like they do with your there.

Tad's right.

All I've got is my squeaky voice of outrage and it's more comical rather than authoritative.
I'm from Alaska. About Fifty miles south of Ankorage there's a little fishing town, maybe you've heard of it, it's called fuck your momma.

When Dan starts to speak, there's the undertone sound of a rule book being opened to exactly the right page.

I don't think anybody else has a really swaying voice. I mean, the other players can certain get Ross to bend by means of humiliation (Cody's exceptional Ross impression and Tom's general Tom-ness). It just lacks that certain... brass.

Dan is a natural baritone, so that helps.
