RPPR Episode 44: Don’t Hate the Game

In this episode, we have a special guest: Mike from Bear Swarm. We discuss why edition wars and hating on games in discussions is a pointless endeavor and why people endlessly flame each other over them.  We also talk about Catalyst Game Labs and of course, Tom has a letter.

Shout Outs:

  • Triangle: A great horror film that is better the less you know about it before you watch it.
  • Pandemic: A board game about stopping a global pandemic. You usually fail.
  • Imaginary Monsters: A web comic about monsters and dungeons.
  • Poo: A card game about monkeys flinging poo.
  • Casshern: The live action Japanese 2007 sci-fi flick. Crazy effects and nonsensical plot.
  • MD Geist: Ultra violent 80s anime that features gamer logic.
  • Iron Tyrants: ROBOT SMASHING FIGHTING TIME
  • Sin Titulo: Eisner nominated web comic. Very creepy and a great read.

Music: Cataclysmic Crash by Game Over.

  1. Great Episode, Should be put in for Ennie!

  2. Link to the Something Awful thing of FATAL? That sounds like it’ll be funny in it’s terribleness.

  3. Mike, thank you for bringing that distinction about “not liking” vs. a system “sucking.” I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t really like what I’ve played of Savage Worlds, but I’m not going to say it’s a bad system…

  4. Another great episode…

I really dig the way Ross and Tom play off of one another. I think what I love about RPPR and what I find the most entertaining and infectious about the show, the people and the games is the obvious passion for RPGs and gaming in general.

I also really enjoy the guest format and I always have a blast listening to your guests expressing their viewpoint.

Tom’s letter was particularly inspired. The Orc, as a protagonist, is so overlooked and under appreciated. There was nothing better than destroying a hapless band of marauding Orcs in the halcyon days of my gaming career.

I did watch Triangle (I called in sick from work yesterday) on Netflix and it was a great movie. Such a mind-fuck…

I have a question though. If I donate $100.00 dollars towards a future ransom, will you run a game of F.A.T.A.L. over Skype for me Ross, how about a game of Synibarr? Can you get in contact with that Craig guy so that he can join us, or will that cost extra!?

Anyway, keep up the good work guys! Looking forward to the next episode.

  5. Ahh yes Batman (1960s) is the ONLY BATMAN!

  6. Man, I love that WordPress compiles internet posts mentioning my webcomic address! Thanks so much for the shout out, and I am super excited to learn about Role Playing Public Radio as well! I’ll scope out some podcasts tomorrow at work 😀

  7. Re: Casshern, I think that movie is related to an early 90s anime called Casshan: Robot Hunter. That was pretty cool too. I remember seeing it years ago on the SciFi channel.
