RPPR Episode 60: It’s not a cliche!

News: Vote for Monsters and Other Childish Things: Road Trip (Cubicle 7/Arc Dream Publishing) in the best adventure category. Be sure to vote it as #1!

Synopsis: THIS IS A NSFW EPISODE. Tom remembered a horribly boring dungeon crawl campaign he suffered from in his youth. He wanted to take the cliches he saw in that game and make them actually fun. So, we discuss how to take cliches like traps, prisoners and treasure in dungeons and make them new and exciting. Also, because we are horrible, horrible monsters we read another excerpt from the rpg.net FATAL review. Also, Tom was too busy to write a letter. Be sure to let him know that you like his letters. Maybe he’ll grace us with a letter again. Maybe.

  1. This episode gave me some good ideas on how to use dragons in my games. Also I have to say you did a great job on the new pdf. The art is sweet.

Oh and Ross I voted for your book.

  2. More FATAL review, please!

  3. I like RPPR material, and I like when RPPR parodies material, but I’m lost when you guys read someone else’s parodied material. On one hand, it’s still Ross and Tom being Ross and Tom. On the other hand, I’m here to listen to RPPR material, not a review from two strangers who string juvenile metaphors together for a good chortle. It’s like watching a puppet show of a puppet show; repetition masked as depth.

I tried reading the online review for FATAL. I admit, it was funny at first, but the novelty quickly wore off when it became apparent that it’s the same idea set on infinite loop – it’s a horrible game. Got it. I was never going to play it anyway. Moving on.

    Less FATAL. More RPPR, please.

  4. Tom, as your most loyal fan I can only suspect that matters of great importance kept you from writing a rough draft before the show. There are somethings more important than your letters, but not many. However, I cannot abide this drought of letters, my soul feeds off your words. If not for the ability to listen to archived episodes, and read Divine Fire, my soul would have dried up like a little piddly worm long ago. You would find it on your doorstep, black and crispy.

Bring the rain Tom, lest I remain stranded on the sidewalk awaiting a spatula.

  5. new listener, but liked the ideas I get from you guys as well as the general humor

specific question though. heard about you guys from Drunk and the Ugly, and noticed both in that and my copy of Road Trip both refer to the fact that Zoltron’s magic won’t banish the Red Ranger’s sword. any particular reason for that? or just a means of making sure the kids don’t have a friendly wizard tailing them doing whatever they may need?
