| Character cause of death: | O’Sullivan appeared in the doorway behind Swan, who had not even seen Willows in the dark. Swan heard Mayor Wellington’s voice and suddenly realized that he had to kill the horror that was looming out of the sheriff’s office behind him.
He turned and fired his shotgun from the hip. The blast took O’Sullivan in the abdomen and blew a fist-sized hole right through the man. His body was flung backwards, one arm clipping the door frame and spinning him back into the sheriff’s office. He was dead before he hit the floor.
