They're around 15 years old, actually. Full blown whores and gangbangers. They're more like real kids in the book, which is excellent by the way.

I was referring to the first movie, which is the best version.

Well, the best part about the movie is its soundtrack and coupled with some really awesome scenes. The worst is that it left out a lot.

The best about the book is that its the original story and its a really good lecture. The worst is the japanese names being confusing as shit.

The best about the manga is that it goes in detail about each character's background. The worst is everything else.

I was scanning through it and daaamnn, what's with Japanese and fluids?

The movie was directed by Kenji Fukusaku, one of the great Japanese directors. He fought in WW2 and made over 50 films in his career, including the infamous series "Battle without honor or humanity" a 6 part yakuza epic often called the Japanese Godfather. I used that film series as a basis for my yakuza games. It starts Beat Takeshi, one of the great grizzled actors of Japan.

The movie is fucking epic and it is by far the superior version of the story. I've read the novel and some of the manga and they don't have the same impact as the movie.

Quote
Kinji Fukasaku stated that the novel reminded him of his time as a 15-year old munitions factory worker, so he decided to create the film adaptation. When he was 15 years old, Fukasaku's class was drafted, and he worked as a munitions worker during World War II. In July 1945, the class was caught in artillery fire. Since the children could not escape artillery fire, they had to dive under each other in order to survive. The surviving members of the class had to dispose of the corpses. Fukasaku realized that the Japanese government lied about World War II at that point; Fukasaku had a burning hatred of adults in general for a long time.

I think THAT quote is epic. ;D

But anyway, I think both the book and manga are better. Now, since it's all derailed from the original subject, let's have a nerd argument about Peter Jackson's adaption of LOTR. ;D
