John Wick, of L5R and Play Dirty fame, is Kickstarting his Wicked Fantasy series for Pathfinder.  If he gets enough money, he'll be adding Savage World and Dungeon Fantasy.

I think it's based on a fantasy races series he did for Kobolt Quarterly originally.

He's had me as a fan since he did Play Dirty for Pyramid magazine, so I'm in.

If anyone is in the Northwest the HP Lovecraft File Festival is having a kickstarter to raise funds for the next event in Portland in May. The event changed management a few years ago and sort of lost a step but I hear it is back on track. Some interesting ransom rewards.

So because instead of going to Evergreen Capital to fund their soddapanners, someone instead gets money from kickstarter, the entire economy of the west will collapse. 

The argument seems to be that EVERYONE will use kickstarter, and that would be bad, because then the banks would lose some areas of investment and no one would take a loan, they'd just open a kickstarter page. Also, noone will ever have a normal job, and we will transition to an entirely kickstarter based economy.

No miraculous Kickstarter project is going to change the fact that buses need drivers.

Because cars can't drive themselves with the proper application of technology, which could be implemented with enough funds, maybe gained through a kickstarter project...

They couldn't be more wrong. First of all, Kickstarter isn't going to replace big business, if anything it's going to ease the burden of unemployment on the economy (although of course, big business likes a certain level of unemployment, as Tom's tagline says, to scare the shit out of the middle class wage slaves).

And secondly, he makes the ridiculous argument that Kickstarter will reduce government tax revenue. If you have a single bank that makes a billion dollars a year and you have a billion dollars a year spread out among thousands of Kickstarters and IndieGoGoers and other small crowdfunded or donation-based production models, which one's going to generate more tax revenue for the government, the one that spends nearly 100% of its income on cost of living, employees, and production, all of which is taxed at normal rates including sales taxes, or the one that puts hundreds of millions of dollars to fester in the executives' bank accounts taxed at 15% for capital gains, if they're paying anything at all after the loopholes they purchased from the politicians? I think the answer is obvious.
