Lets all say something nice about Rpgs we don't like
« on: September 27, 2012, 01:57:06 PM »
A few hours ago I posted this very subject on reddit/r/rpgs and it had an interesting response.
I decided that I would take this to the place where great minds meet. These great minds are people who I respect and who's opinion is worth more than my weight in gold.

Unfortunately it didn't work out so well on 4chan so I'm taking it here.

So great Rppr listeners and forum goers, I put it to you to say something nice about the rpgs you don't like. Please make an effort to be positive. I know this is the internet and these things are difficult but please make an effort.

I will start - Palladium's Rifts has a fantastic setting that you can really sink your teeth into.

Over to you Rppr, I know you won't disappoint.

4th ed DnD had incredible combat mechanics that remind me of playing my much beloved grid based rpg video games.

Before anyone asks why I don't like 4th ed, I just don't feel like the systems magic and skill point system lend themselves to my idea of fantasy gaming. That being said I also love the extended skill challenges rules and I use them in my mutants and masterminds star trek game.

3.0 and 3.5 Dungeons and Dragons introduced thousands of gamers to the hobby, and provided a satisfactory face for many outsiders to look at. I was one of those gamers introduced with 3.0 back in 2001.

Vampire LARPs provide a valuable social outlet for certain individuals who might otherwise not be able to experience social contact with other humans. Some people are granted a sense of escapism from their regular lives through such LARPs.

FATAL: The time the developers spent writing it was time they didn't spend murdering people.

Dude, it's a rape RPG - that's about as positive as it gets!

Ummmmmm... As far as I am aware the Maid RPG is very popular to a lot of anime fans and is certainly ideosyncratic as a system.

You can do ANYTHING in GURPS.  No actually I like GURPS so that is cheating.

Here is a real one.
4th edition DnD is a good board game.

Marvel Super Heroes (1980s TSR version) character creation was humorous and entertaining.

Amber Diceless Role Playing Game was based on some good books.

Palladium Fantasy RPG had good art.

4th Edition D&D combat required less reference to rule-books

Rollmaster had many fine tables.

ADnD 2nd Was totally a rocking good game when I was 16.
THAC0 makes perfect sense when you don't know any better.

Call of Cthulhu is easy to learn.

Vampire: The Masquerade has interesting book-art/layouts.

Delta Green has very good flavor text.

Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition has nice art.

Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader have amusing guns.

BESM has good ideas.

4th ed stopped kicking my puppy.
Fuzion was pretty quick with character generation and easy enough to learn.

FATAL: The time the developers spent writing it was time they didn't spend murdering people.

You can't prove that.

I'm only talking about the actual time spent writing - you cannot write and murder someone AT THE EXACT SAME TIME.

I know they must have taken breaks though and I cannot account for that time.
