Eberron without d20s
« on: June 28, 2009, 04:08:56 PM »
I want to run an Eberron game because I love the setting.

I don't want to deal with the heavy 4E rules and grid focused system in a PbP game.

Would anyone be interested in a Play by Post game, using the Eberron setting for DnD, but played using a lite system (either Risus or Wushu)?

Well, i just picked up the players guide for 4E a day or two ago.  But if my lack of experience and general knowledge of the setting is forgiven I'd like to try a Pbp of it.

Lack of knowledge isn't a problem for me. You'll learn. Besides, the whole idea is that it's more similar to a modern day setting. It's Fantasy Noir Pulp.

I know absolutely zero about Eberron. Would this be a game that I would be able to get into, or no?

If you like detective stories than Eberron tends to do alright. This would be an investigative game in Sharn, the fantasy counter part to New York.

I've never been in a play by post game before.  But i'd love to play something set in Eberron.

I told myself I'd wait for three people.

So, I'll post a summary of the senario before the end of the weekend along with the game system we'll use.

To help get your character creation juices flowing here's where you begin play:

You arrive on foot at the Lightning Rail station of Nowhere, on the barren plains of Breland as storm clouds begin to roll in from the west.

I would be interested. I wrote a FATE conversion up for the Eberron setting, and their dice system is relatively easy to encode in this board. Rolling 4d3-8:
(3+1+2+2)-8: Total = 0

I can send it over if you're interested.

Also the magic system would convert over to pretty much any skill-based system that you want to keep relatively freeform. I'm not very familiar with Risus or Wushu except that I believe they are diceless or close to it?

Close to it. Wushu uses dice pools build through narrative detail while Risus piles cliches to get pools.

I kind of let this fall by the way side since I got an RL Eberron game going but now that its no going anymore I find myself longing for a return to the setting.

I think I'll go with Risus because its very straight forward. I'll work up some details here in a bit.
