Mouse Guard
« on: July 25, 2009, 12:39:03 AM »

I read the "Fall 1152" TPB of the Mouse Guard comic, and words cannot express how much I like it.  But I'll try, here goes:
I like it so much I want to run a game of it.

The Mouse Guard RPG uses a streamlined version of the Burning Wheel system.  The Mouse Guard have many roles in the Mouse Territories; they are scouts, pathfinders, trailbreakers, escorts, and mediators.  They rescue stranded mice, deliver mail between settlements, and hunt down predators.

Hail all those who are able,
Any mouse can,
Any mouse will,
But the Guard prevail.

Anyone interested?

I love the Mouse Guard comics, and I've heard a lot about the game, but I've never played any version of Burning Wheel. So I don't know the rules at all. Not one iota.

I want to play, but I would totally have to be hand-held until I finally get my sea legs.

I own the Burning Wheel Rulebook, Character Burner, and Magic Burner books, but i haven't a clue as to how to properly play it.  Ive asked a few times for Ross to run a game of it but odds are i wont hear it until the other AP's have come out.  I'd love to play it but the rules are still a tad too complex for me to get through w/o some sort of guidance or an AP of it from someone.

But yeah I'm in.

Any possibility of an open spot still for the game? I've got the rulebook and have actually GM'ed half a session (we were camping and it got a little...damp for role-playing). Anyway, I'm very familiar with the rule system at this point.

I probably should have mentioned in my previous post that I'll be heading off to Gencon early tomorrow morning and not be back home until this Sunday, so I won't be able to participate until then really even if there is a spot for me. I'd love to still participate, but I understand if you guys wanted to get the game running before sunday or even next monday.

Gencon was fantastic (obviously), and hopefully I'll be able to start posting in the game. I used tonight's column on the Hopeless Gamer to actually create my character concept for the Mouse Guard game, just need to actually make up a character sheet for him now. You can check out the character from the link in my signature.

Port Sumac represent!

Did Dalton and Locke know each other before joining the Guard?

Excellent history for Locke. Yeah, I think Dalton and Locke should know each other.

Do you think either or both of us should augment our histories so they gel a little better, other than saying that they knew each other as kids? Should they be best friends? Should they have had the same mentor in the Guard?

I have no problem having Locke know Dalton since we were kids and maybe a little more. We should definitely have different allies though as they're there to help us and give the GM more NPC's to play around with.

If you want to work your backstories so you are friends, even good friends, is just fine.  Your NPCs named at character generation should be unique to each of you, though.
