When I was a kid, Salem's Lot scared the heck out of me. Especially this scene. Out of context and year later it doesn't seem so scary

I'll second that.  I remember a babysitter showed it to me when I was young, pretty much as soon as it hit cable TV.  If her goal was to keep me in check through fear, it certainly worked.

I liked Paranormal Activity, but I'm not sure I'd say it was scary.

Funny, but predictable. I was initially expecting the piece of paper to come off when the guy put his arm in the safe so that his arm would be cut off. It might be better if we had a better idea what persuaded him to climb in the hole in the first place.
