Atonal/mondern music, especially
Philomel
by Milton Babbitt...

Not only is the music weird, but the story is too...

Let's not forget Schoenberg and the 12 Tone Scale.

I've listened to that, but Philomel was just plain creepier...

I think Ross posted a previous article on this, but Viking mass grave in England confirmed: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/03/100315-headless-vikings-england-execution-pit/

In recent years, geneticists have learned how to take skin cells and return them to a state called pluripotency, where they can become almost any type of cell in the human body. Church proposes to use the MAGE technique to alter a stem cell's DNA to match the Neanderthal genome. That stem cell would be left to reproduce, creating a colony of cells that could be programmed to become any type of cell that existed in the Neanderthal's body. Colonies of heart, brain, and liver cells, or possibly entire organs, could be grown for research purposes.

This technique could also be used to create a person.

Not sure how this can be used as game or story fodder right now,  but it's something interesting to keep an eye on. In Michigan, starting with Flint and now with proposals for Detroit, a new type of urban planning is emerging that involves shrinking city limits to eliminate blight and concentrate emergency and city services (this of course is meeting with resistance): http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gwckVe8gKZJKd2w-MpXWAIyZu-BgD9EAMQFO3

Which is awesome because those same regions protested the city's "creep" 20/30 years ago. Philly is going through the same thing, pulling back services while still claiming tax rights on outside townships.

I can see where this is going easily - Shadowrun privatized police forces, suburban slums, centralized megacities.

You thought the Bhut Jolokia, otherwise known as the Ghost Chili, was hot. Just wait until you get a hold of a weaponized Ghost Chili.
