From Shit My Dad Says

I'm a big fan of Shit My Dad Says on Facebook. I thought this was an appropriate quote from it for this forum:

One of the few twitter accounts I follow that's not someone I actually know.
GENERALA, my free dungeon-crawling RPG, is now available! And it's free!

Most of the stuff my dad says is angry racist nonsense. However, my mother never ceases to surprise my brother and me with the hilarious shit she says.

One time, when my family was visiting me in Baltimore, we were driving past The Charles Theater and Capote, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, was advertised on the marquee. My younger brother wanted to know what the film was about, but when I told him, "It's about Truman Capote," he had no idea who Truman Capote was.

Luckily, my mother stepped in to clarify.

"Well, Matthew," she said, "Truman Capote was a notorious gangster in Chicago during the 1930s. He was one of the most powerful crime bosses in the city, but the government could never catch him."

I interrupted, saying, "Mom. You're thinking of Al Capone. Truman Capote wrote Breakfast at Tiffany's."

Much mirth and merriment followed.

Well, I've never actually read Breakfast at Tiffany's, but I am aware that it's part of Capote's oeuvre. That said, In Cold Blood is an awesome work of not quite non-fiction, and is definitely worth reading. His interview with Marlon Brando for The New Yorker, "The Duke in his Domain," is also an amazing read, mostly because Capote showed up at Brando's door with a bottle of expensive vodka and got him drunk enough to say quite a few things that he thought were "off the record."

Anyhow, </digression>.

I'm impressed you know the word oeuvre.

That's what I get for dual majoring in writing and film: I learned all sorts of new and exciting French words, like "oeuvre," "mot juste," and "Roland Barthes."

And the ability to put post- in front of everything. Just wait until post-RPPR game design comes around.
