Cthulhu Mythos Sculpts
« on: July 24, 2010, 11:01:44 PM »
So, now that I'm free from the Codex I'm exploring some of the other projects that have been sitting in the back of my mind. One that has been engaging me for quite some time is creating some 3d printable models of Mythos beasties. There are no good minatures (that I've seen) for the CoC game, and I know some people find that pulling out a gigantic model to put on the table really helps to give people a sense of scale.

So yeah, this is the Bloody Tongue Nyarlethotep I cranked out today. I'm working on getting him printable and uploading him to Shapeways, we'll see how that goes over the next few hours.

Any suggestions for other Mythos beings that could use a 3d treatment? My thoughts immediately turn to Dark Young and Shoggoths.

You think that's cool? How about the fact that you can get a copy of him? :)

http://www.shapeways.com/model/139668/nyarlethotep_bloody_tongue___mini_version.html

Shapeways is a 3d printing company, so you can order a print of anything you can sculpt in a digital environment. I originally uploaded him so I could order a copy for myself, but I figured I'd share the link if anyone else wants to get a copy. $30 for a 3" tall version (I set it to have the lowest possible markup, so you're pretty much getting it at cost of printing) They aren't colored, but painting these things up is half the fun, right?

I also made a turnaround video since he's kinda hard to see in the pics above. This one doesn't have color, but it's the actual mesh that I sent to print. :)

First up, Seth's request: The Great Race of Yith. (Available for print on Shapeways. They're under the $25 minimum order thingy, so you'd have to order something else, or buy a pair together.)

(His got bonus points because I may need one for my Masks game. Players haven't been to Australia yet, after all.)

Also, it's time for Name That Cthulian! One of my current projects.

FFFFFUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCKK

I'll simply quote the Cult of Transcendence chapter in Targets of Opportunity and say, "It's a fucking Dark Young of Shub-Niggurath."

Bee-tee-dubs, the Bloody Tongue avatar is suitably grotesque. The Black Buddha would be an awesome companion sculpture.

An interesting project I have in the works: Chess sets based on the Cthulhu Mythos, with different themes. So far i'm thinking

Nyarlethotep set: Bloody Tongue, Lurker in the Dark, Black Buddha, Bloated Woman, The Black Sphinx, and Cultists of the Black Pharoh as pawns.
Cthulhu Set: Cthulhu, Hydra, Dagon, Deep Ones, Cultists again
Carcosa Set: King in Yellow, Hastur, Some Creepy Buildings, A copy of the play, and Investigators as pawns
Interdimensional Fun: Daoloth, Hounds of Tindalos, Dimensional Shamblers, Not sure what to use as pawns
Alien Menace: Cthugha, Yithians, Mi-Go, use MJ12 Agents as Pawns
The Outer Gods: Azathoth, Shub Niggurath, Servitors, Dark Young, Shan as pawns?

Whatcha think? Any suggestions?

Well, I'm a pretty crappy chess player, so the sets may unnerve my opponents and give me the edge needed to win.

The Interdimensional series is missing some serious Hunting Horror.

Shan probably belong in the Alien set. Or Flying Polyps. Ugh... hate those damned things.

Don't forget Tcho-Tcho for the Hastur series. And Byakhee are also associated with it, I think.

I thought they more just flew about in space and served Nyarlethotep? Or was it someone else the served...

Also, I finished another one of the projects I was working on today.

Ross, this one is for you. (I'll probably paint him when my brain congeals back into a semisolid)

Get it on Shapeways and such. I think I'll be ordering one of him and one of the Yithian. Between the two of them they get me just over the 25 dollar minimum order from Shapeways.
