Thanks for the link.  It was very helpful.  So far I've got a focus for the con, now I just need a place.

RPGs / Running a con...
« on: February 18, 2011, 12:37:12 AM »
In my tiny geographic area there is a definite lack of cons and I want to do one in my hometown (the closest cons to the place are a five plus hour drive).  As it sits, I have a very small number of people in town (100 or so roleplayers, 50 or so magic players, 50 or so wargamers) that could help and in addition to that the there is only a single game shop within about 50 miles of the place.

Anyone know where I could grab some info on running game conventions?

What have you seen done at cons that has worked in the past?

Any help would be invaluable.

RPGs / Re: ORE system

This is what I found originally so I thought that since it was in Nemesis and on this site it was a free system:

http://www.1km1kt.net/rpg/one-roll-engine-toolkit

Is this the same bare bones version of the system that is currently used or is there a new edition with fundamental system changes?

Sorry.  I thought that it was free from its use in Nemesis and saw it in the rpg megathread so I thought that ORE was a free system or a system that was online but without a link to it. Sorry about that. Next time more reseach less talking.

Is ORE still a free system?  The links to the system document are dead.

Is the revision to Wild Talents a full system revision that will bring all the games under the system into revision or is it simply an expansion of the rules used by wild talents for use with wild talents exclusively?

If it is a revision is there an srd or pdf of the second edition changes?

RPGs / Gaming Music
« on: February 14, 2011, 04:37:44 PM »
I integrated some music into my game simply by playing that awful Mortal Kombat techno song last week.  When I did I saw all my players perk up and after the game they said that that was one of the things they liked most out of the session.  I was hoping for some suggestions as to creepy music to use for CoC or some pulpy music for my pulp game when I have time to run again.

I'd be interested in playing, if there's still room.  I saw a local band once that had a member who didn't play any instruments.  Instead, he wore a crazy costume and did fingerpainting to the music.  That's right, fingerpainting on a 6'x3' white canvas that had all sorts of wierd alien designs on it by the time the show was over.  I'm thinking of having a character like that, someone who entertains the audience in a non-musical way while the other band-members play.  What do you think?

In the true spirit of WUSHU i'll give each of the players already in the game a vote as to whether this fits their collective "idea" of the genre that we're shooting for.  PM me a yay or nay on the "improvisation artist."

So far I have seen and approved two characters.  I figured that I might as well start the game given the fact that this PbP forum seems to be a ghost town most of the time. Sorry I forgot to post that here.

The first scene is on the forum already

If you have any questions drop me a PM.  Post a description of your character here.  The game is still young so any new arrivals are welcome.  Thanks for checking out this game.

Play by Post / WUSHU rock and Roll Play by Post

Well ladies and gentleman the time is upon us to commence.  Let's start with some character descriptions and a nice opening action.  Awayyyy we go...

All of you live in a trashed home on the outskirts of suburbia.  The rent is at least three months behind and the booze, women, and drugs have all trickled away.  Today's the first and you all know what that means...a visit from Haggar Souts, your landlord.  The man epitomizes the word slum lord.  His speedy pace, slicked back graying hair, and money hungry expression let you know he means buisness.  You all hunker back and let him sit outside and stew.  He waits for a while and then his face turns bright crimson as he pulls a paper from inside his illfitted polyester suit and affixes it to your door.  He stomps off to his Mercedes and peels out leaving a trail of torn and melted rubber in his wake.

So whatcha gonna do?  Describe a nice intro scene for you character and what your character is doing at the beginning of the game.

Just saw this, I'd be willing to jump in as the rhythm-guitarist/vocalist if there's still spots.

ALSO ALSO ALSO the fucking mandolin.

Go for it, but to be a team player you may want to be a backup vocalist dreaming of being the star of the show.  Nothing like some good old party conflict.  Anyhoo, game looks like its shaping up to be pretty awsome ;D

Actually I wanted my character to be the vocalist and the music genre sounds good to me.

I was also planning to play lead guitar (though I imagine that was everyone else's as well).

Ironically enough I was going to request either drums or bass anyway...

Thus far a three man band...not bad.  Hope we can snag another player or two before we start next Sunday.  Game sounds promising thus far.  Any other takers?

For those with already defined rolls drop a character description and some stats.  Remember to PM if there's anything "secretive" about your characters.

We should probably figure out our roles in the band and work from there.

Drop some ideas or post up a character.  First come first serve. Fight for position on the stage? We've all seen this.  Could lead to some fun RPing.  Let me see what you've got. I'd love to see a backstory.  Drop Character Descriptions here.  The PC's are in a band together already, but if you want something not known by the other players (like you used to be a mob hitman and are on the run) PM or email me after you post your characters.

An we should agree on an idea of what kind of music they are playing so we are all on the same page.

Drop an idea.  Anything's good.  If you all want to be the roughest toughest group of acid-folk inspired hip-hop MC's go for it.  The point of the game is fun.  If you're not having any then it really isn't a game worth playing.

Let's start with an easy one.  What do you as players expect out of the game? Do you want a serious game of heart-breaking betrayal, lies, and small sunny vistas interspersed amongst the despair that real bands go through or do you want a more light hearted game.  Post it here.  The game is as much about the players as the GM.

Is is supposed to be action moviesque or just comedic band hijinks

A little of both.  Depends on where the characters take the action.

Thanks for the replies thus far.

If there are any other questions feel free to ask.

Let's see how long it takes us to start eating gremlins.
Can't wait for the gremlin pie eating contest...oddly enough one of my players last game mentioned this.  He added matter-of-factly "Well if there were Gremlins then Mr. T would eat them. It only makes sense."

42.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

One more thing, but nothing to do with the game. Statistics are awsome.  Air is 100% lethal and should be avoided at all costs because 100% of people exposed to this poison have died or will die in the future lol
