I've been told of a game today which has potential to suck up a small part of my life; realmofthemadgod.com It's an 8-bit RPG which is sort of like a 1-shot. Pretty fun, imo.

Lol, there is an easy way to fight King Allant without getting level drains (I farm him in my spare time, online). Anyways, Demon's Souls is pretty hardcore. I go with a melee build whom I have named 'Guts.' Melee build is one of the most difficult builds in the game to run, especially if you don't use any ranged.

The game is really fun.

@Cody

Yea, WKC is an alright game. It has a reincarnation system like Disgaea's, though you can only do it 4 times before it becomes pretty ineffective (And you can only access it at the endgame). From what I have experienced, it kind of turns into WoW once you beat the story mode; you basically need to complete quests in order to get a higher Guild Level so that you can get better weapons and armor. You also need to craft your own weapons and armor. It's kind of fun XD.

Anyone ever play Spectral Forces 3? One of my favorite characters was Dragan, who had a special attack that could hit half the map. I equipped him with an item that allowed him to move before and after an attack, and I had the healer refill his sp to full every turn. This allowed him to use his special move and pretty much hit whatever he wanted to every turn. He would say "Hey you! Don't you dare move! I'm gonna smack you right in the face!"

Guy was pretty epic.

General Chaos / Tech Bullshit (Or general, real life anecdotes)

So here's the story; I have this printer/scanner hybrid machine made by Cannon. I've had it for about a year and a half now, and I finally decided to install the drivers for printing (go-go DnD character sheets as motivation). So I start the loading and it says "Printer spooler isn't running. Restart computer and try again." So I do this, and it still doesn't work. I'm like 'wtf?'

To shorten the story, I'm on the phone with tech support. The guy says 'Since your warranty is void for your computer and your printer, we'll have to charge you 40 dollars to fix this, or 199.99 (read 200 dollars) for a 1 year subscription to our help.' I can't afford that, lol. I said 'no.' (This took 15 minutes. 5 of which was him connecting to the computer to check what the problem was. 10 of which was him not taking 'no' for an answer).

Well, figuring that the internet is our friend, I did a search online about the error and found a forum where people discuss troubleshooting with these kinds of errors. Lo-and-behold, after 20 minutes I was able to install the drivers due to the help of the online community.

Moral of the story? While support can get things done faster (Unless they are trying to persuade you to join their service), a simple google search will yield much cheaper results.

This happened yesterday, but the thing that made me want to post this was what happened today (I seem to be having some tech troubles recently. A whole shitstorm of tech troubles).

Another tech assistant group tried to do the same thing to me. Cisco's linksys router was fucking up for me after a power failure, so I called them up and was like 'Can you fix this?' of course, after about 7 minutes of getting all the information in regards to the router down, they got around to telling me that it would cost me 30 dollars.

I told them the Cannon story and let them know that I was going to do the same thing here, too. Luckily they didn't try to convince me to sign up with their deals like the previous tech support guy did.

Got the linksys to work by entering the cmd, doing a ipconfig/release and ipconfig/connect after reading a quick run-down on how to fix the problem. Same process as before, used internet sources to help.

Any tech bullshit that you guys had to deal with? Or any other 'RL' anecdotes to share?

RPGs / Re: Character Naming conventions

We all hate when our players constantly ask 'what's his name?' in our games, right? I had one new player who would do this particularly often; one of my roommates. Now, he would be walking down the street and he would see some random citizen.
Him: *Points* "What's his name?"
Me: "You don't know."
Him: "I go over and ask him."
Me: "He says he is tired from his long day at work and wants to be left alone."
Him: "I continue to bug him."
Me: "GODDAMNIT, FINE! HIS NAME IS KIRBY, AND SO IS EVERY OTHER NPC OUT THERE!"
Him: "What about females?"
Me: "Kirbette."

Keep in mind that he has probably asked the name of at least fifteen or so of random NPCs; not even important ones, either. Just random passer-bys on the street. I finally snapped. I stayed true to my word, though. Every NPC was named either Kirby or Kirbette, with the exception of special npcs (que in 'Oh, it isn't named Kirby, it must be a boss!').

I then followed by making a Orc Barbarian/fighter who had a 15 in Int (Purposely chose Barbarian as first level and paid the 2 skill points for literacy, even though you can auto gain it when you multi into Fighter). His dream was to make a Mercenary group, and his name was Kirby (in homage to the NPCs from the aforementioned game).

tl;dr Kirby.

Oooh, I was thinking about this the other day. I'm a heavy pbp RPGer, and there are two things that pissed me off on the site I went to; moderator favoritism/corruption and overpowered bullshit. The premise was a MtG based rpg, with limits; nobody was a planeswalker.

Well, these three people managed to convince the site owner to allow them to use Planeswalker characters and Gods (powers vastly above those of everyone else). No need to go any further; everyone should already know where this is going, insofar as the shenanigans that would occur after something like this. In their defense, they could have done a lot more bs than they actually did. They restrained themselves.

It was still enough to piss me off, though. So I decided; I will create some OC of a world of Immortal Hunters. I got 2 other people on the board in on it, and basically I made the characters have racial immunity to anything Planeswalkers and Gods could do. Everything else worked as normal, though.

Anyways, Zeriken was the character, and I strive to use it everywhere as a reminder to those who were of the OP group (they are friends of mine, so they do read some of the stuff I post up on boards every once in a while). I've gotten a few 'screw you's every once in a while.

Feels good, man.

*Pokes* Cody, I sent a psn request >.>. Do you play any Demon's Souls?

I do indeed! I haven't played in awhile, but I used to quite a bit. Lemme know when you're up for a game of it.

Sounds like fun. What Soul Level are you? Would you rather play with our current, or start out new characters?

If we do start out new characters, are you going to be playing a mage-class, or a warrior-class? (Mage build is best build, but I only have warrior class characters atm).

I have a Soul Level 152 character right now, Warrior Class w/ Fireball. He wields the Dragon Bone Smasher and the White bow as a secondary weapon.

Lol, maybe I'll look into pathfinder in a month or two, when my financial situation levels out. Then again, I've pretty much have only known D&D throughout my paper and pencil rpging life (I dabbled in VtM, once). It will be interesting to expand my gaming, especially after hearing how everyone of the RPPR plays such a wide variety of games. As a side note, I generally can't stand pdfs of books. I have to be able to physically turn the pages XD.

@Hybrid (I actually accidentally first bought the phb3, mistaking it as the phb): This is... madness. It's so good. The problem here, though, is that it will split my choices when I would gain more than 1 of a daily, encounter or at-will when I level up. And it's just kind of not what I want the character to be.

@Multiclass feat: I feel similar as I did with the Hybrid, though not quite as strongly. It doesn't really limit you in any way, other than not allowing you to enter into every class (lol). I suppose taking Warrior of the Wild would fit well with how the character is turning out, and it would train in Perception at the same time.

D-wah? I just skipped the entire 'multi-class' thing. I'll be taking a look-see now XD.

Yea, I'm at the point of waiting for more releases before starting up.

@Flawless: Yea, he gets more and more bad-ass as the story progresses.

I love the character development, how Guts evolves along his life. I also really like the fighting scenes. The man once fucking cleaved several horsemen AND their horses in one swing.

General Chaos / Berserk, anyone?
« on: September 27, 2010, 05:13:27 PM »
So yea. Anyone else here watch/read Berserk? What a hard-core guy. I think that Fist of the North Star is stronger than Guts, but Guts is a bigger BadAss.

Anyways, I'm excited about this development. Discuss?

Lol, I didn't have too much of a difficult time choosing spells, but when I got to rituals I realized I didn't even know who the character was; what kind of rituals would he start out with? Tenser's Floating Disk was was an easy first choice. After a while, I realized I just jumped headfirst into the creation process without even thinking. So I decided to branch it; the character is either secretive, in which case I would take Secret Page and Silence, or he is more of a Nature type that the book suggests Eladrin to be. In which case I would give him Make Whole and Gentle Repose.

Thinking of having the character lean more to the latter, rather than the former.

Also, took the Skill Training: Perception. I figure, if it comes up, I can pick up the Expanded Spellbook at level 2 for the diversity (If I feel I need it). I think that the character would benefit more from the perception rather than the additional diversity that the feat would provide. At least at the lower level.

All classes have the same number of powers per level by default.

Cool. Where do I find this list? Or is there some sort of simple algorithm I follow?

[edit] Found it. Page 29. Lol, I feel dumb now. At least I can move on with character creation, though.

Just purchased a D&D 4th Ed phb. After reading for a couple of hours, I went to the wizard class.

My mind is full of fuck. I might be missing something blatantly obvious after reading for such a long time, but where is the wizard's 'known powers per level' table? Or any of the class', for that matter?

Help is appreciated >.>;;;
