Games I'm Thinking About/Looking for Yes or No
Silent Hill (Not sure which ones, just definitely looking at the older ones)

According to Yahtzee, Silent Hill 2 is the best in the series, and you can get it for approx $15 on Amazon Marketplace (including shipping).
Seconded. Silent Hill 2 is a great game. Silent Hill 3 is also good, but the second installment will always be a classic in my eyes.

Also: The Penumbra games (Overture, Black Plague and Requiem) Somewhat puzzle-centric but the game mechanics are interesting and the creepiness factor is high.

Awesome, can't wait to listen to it!

Might be a good idea to wear chainmail rather than hide armor. It would raise your AC from 14 to 17 and since you fight in melee, a higher AC might be useful.

I like the concept integrating both a Warlord and a Dune Trader, it really fits with the theme of an Athasian leader.

Just a quick FYI, the Google docs link isn't working for me.
Maybe it has something to do with the settings on privacy on the document, changing the sharing settings to "Anyone who has the link can view" if it's not like that already.

Just posted the character on the Templar Archives. I will write up a back-story in the morning and post it there too.

I built the character by hand, but I double and triple checked the sheet to make sure it was legal. Either ways, you might want to give it a look to be sure that everything is correct.

I saw the sheet you used, is that a template that you can fill in fields with?  Or did you just do that yourself?  I have mine actually filled in in handwriting, but I figured if I could type it up it might be clearer (though to be fair I think my handwriting isn't that bad)...

I couldn't find a fill-in character sheet, so I printed out a character sheet as a PDF and edited the text. I used Foxit Phantom, which has a 30-day trial.

If anyone wants me to type up their character sheet in a similar fashion, you can email it to me.

Templar Archives / Drik-chkit, Level 1 Arena Fighter (Gladiator)
« on: August 26, 2010, 02:50:50 AM »
Had to build the character by hand, since Character Builder doesn't have the Dark Sun updates yet. When it does, I'll build him through there.

Character Sheet

Description:
Drik-chkit’ is 6’2”, with sandy-coloured chitinous plate skin. Along the chitin there are some deep scars as well as light scratches. His upper pair of limbs are quite tough, but his middle set of limbs are smaller and dexterous. He usually carries weapons in these hands, to which he can easily switch to his upper limbs when in combat. His antennae are somewhat longer than most Thri-Kreen’s, and his jaw looks somewhat fiercer. With his compound eyes, it’s sometimes hard to tell what he is looking at exactly.

Back-story:
Drik-chkit was originally born in a Thri-Kreen hunting party that lived out in the wild.

While he was still a youngling, he and most of his clutch captured by slavers and brought to Tyr. Drik-chkit was bought by a noble, who trained Drik-chkit as a Gladiator. Through his combat prowess, he became one of the best gladiators in the arena, and a favorite for the gamblers. However, with the death of King Kalak and the abolition of slavery by King Tithian, Drik-chkit was released to a world that he knew nothing of. In the pit, he had always had a purpose in front of him, to kill the other opponent and to win the gladiatorial games, but with his new freedom he did not know what to do. So, he turned to a caravan guard and mercenary. He has very little knowledge of how economy works: he knows that he can trade little clay disks for food, and that’s good enough for him.

Maybe it’s for this reason, as well as his physical prowess, that he was recruited to a small caravan. As it slowly turned to “illegitimate work", Drik-chkit was fascinated by the amount of planning and action it required, almost like a hunt. And if there’s something Thri-Kreen like, it’s a good hunt.

Personal goals:
Find members of his birth-clutch. Find a purpose to his life. Be as useful as possible to his new group.

I'll take a Wild Talent.

And I finally decided on a Thri-Kreen Gladiator, Arena Fighter. I'll post the character sheet soon.

Well, it augments the attacks, but not the damage rolls. It would still be a 1d4, compared to the spiked gauntlet's 1d6 damage.

@Dom A player in my Revenge of the Giants campaign is running a brawler and he loves it. It is a pain in the ass to keep track of grabs and having a hand free and all that jazz, though. There is an actual gladiator build for fighters in the Campaign Setting, but you can play whatever you want.

It's probably much easier to keep track of things like that in a PBP game, and I really like the idea of a Thri-Kreen that use it's extra arms to grab enemies (In fluff)

Just a question, the character builder allows me to take a spiked gauntlet on the "unarmed" hand without any penalties. However, the Dark Sun equivalent of a spiked gauntlet, the Talid, says in the description that "When enchanted as a magic weapon, it does not occupy a character's hand slot." So, that would probably mean that when not enchanted, the Talid does occupy the hand slot. Which seems strange, since the spiked gauntlet does not have those limitations in the character builder.

So, I'm not sure if I can or cannot use it as a Brawling Fighter in my unarmed hand. I'll leave it up to the DM's call.

My primary choice right now is a Brawling Fighter. I've never played one, and the concept looks interesting with a Gladiator theme.

Trying to see what role each of us are taking from the recruitment thread:

Ryo - Striker leaning towards Rogue, or Defender.
Mckma - Druid as more Striker than Controller, or Defender.
infiniteJesting - Leader, possibly Bard.
siriq- Rogue or Ranger.
Dom - Possibly Thri-Kreen and/or martial class.

So if we go with first choices, we have two strikers, a leader and a controller that leans towards striker. In my opinion, a striker-heavy party might not be too well balanced. I could take defender or controller, but then someone might want to take a slightly more defensive role, or one that could provide some extra healing.

Dark Sun meets Ocean's Eleven.  ;)

Sounds interesting. Maybe robbing the nobles and templars, to give to the common masses in a Robin Hood-esque action. Or simply rob everything and hightail it to the next town.

I'm liking the idea of playing a Thri-Kreen. Probably can play defender if needed.
