Piggybacking on Tad's thread about Chase Scenes. Post the best shootout scenes here and talk about what makes them so great. Or, you know, just embed the YouTube link.
I'll start with an obvious one. My favorite moment of this scene, of course, is when Leon takes the SWAT member hostage and then shoots a water pipe so that the rest of the SWAT team believes that he shot the the guy. Classic dick there.

Can't find a youtube link, unfortunately, but here is the shootout scene from The Magnificent Seven (one of the best westerns of all time).

How about the The Wild Bunch? I don't know if it was the best, I will have to do some pondering on that, but it is probably the most important. It introduced gratuitous blood and violence to the public. Blaze of Glory baby!!!

How about a chase scene and a shootout scene? HEAT's downtown shootout scene. I know Patrick put it in the chase thread, but it deserves repeating.
It has so much stuff. Head shoot, cars just stop if you shot the driver, hostages, big ass guns (compared to pistols anyway), and tactical advancing.

Heat is one of my favorite movies and has been since it came out.

Heat is one of my favorite movies and has been since it came out.
It's like it was made from a RPG in so many places. That entire gunfight chase feels like the kind of shit PCs would do.
"There's a whole wall of police. Do you surrender?"
"Hell no! I get a cover bonus from the cars, I make called shots to avoid armor..."
"The guys has a young boy as a hostage."
"I shot."
"What?"
"Oh, your right. Called shot to head! Now I shot."

Where is my like button?
I can see another thread spawning out of this "Best RPG scenes". I think the one I would like to run would be the Selma Hayek scene in from Dusk to Dawn. I am pretty sure all my players would just stab her when they hear " a hot stripper chick just hopped on your table". Bunch of PCs! First time I saw the movie, I didn't actually know what it was about. So the "twist" was a total shock. It is just a matter of getting them comfortable in the situation so they do not expect a trap I guess. I probably need to do more scenes where nothing actually happens, so they won't be so paranoid.

I mean really the whole movie has great shootouts. But the teahouse is the one everybody knows.
Stumbled on this other link- should be to a playlist, but the one scene I wanted to highlight was the boat fight from Taken. It is cinematicgrit or something. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXN5O3N0WkA&playnext=1&list=PLEB53C600A0BB73A6&index=31

I thought this was one of the best.

I wouldn't say best, but this is certainly the most ridiculous shootout even by Hollywood standards.

My favorite. Provides high stakes action without forgetting the fact that a gunfight is an act of supreme stupidity.
-
Well...my personal favorite is the street fight from HEAT but I thought I'd show you a video that details the utmost realism in all forms of shootouts.

I saw a really interesting paper on Equilibrium at a conference two months ago that made me want to watch the film again and write an essay on it. I might write a short version and post it on the forums.
-
Shit...I'm gonna have to see if there's any Equilibrium web fiction.
-
I did really enjoy Equilibrium despite it's ridiculousness.
Although these scenes aren't quite as action packed as some other shootouts I really enjoyed them.

That one in Collateral was pretty damn cool.

No one has posted it, so I will. (3...2...1...Ross complains.)

Would I be amiss for bringing up the movie "Shoot Em' Up"?
I feel like it was terribly misunderstood, and that if you go into it expecting what the title says, that it is a great movie.
I love the beginning when he shoots the oil drum and uses it to slide along the floor whilst shooting bad guys.

Along those lines, I would post all of Smokin' Aces if I could.

On Hard Boiled

Bah, I like the shoot out in the maternity ward.

I like the one in the warehouse, where he shoots motorcycles and they EXPLODE!

My favourite, followed by Equilibrium, then I actually really like 5th Element near the end - it's just fun.

As far as other shootouts go
I like the one from the 2003 flick Open Range. The sound editing in the movie is awesome and the shootout is more in the tactical western vein.
