RPGs / Running a con...
« on: February 18, 2011, 12:37:12 AM »
In my tiny geographic area there is a definite lack of cons and I want to do one in my hometown (the closest cons to the place are a five plus hour drive).  As it sits, I have a very small number of people in town (100 or so roleplayers, 50 or so magic players, 50 or so wargamers) that could help and in addition to that the there is only a single game shop within about 50 miles of the place.

Anyone know where I could grab some info on running game conventions?

What have you seen done at cons that has worked in the past?

Any help would be invaluable.

RPGs / ORE system
« on: February 16, 2011, 02:06:33 PM »
Is ORE still a free system?  The links to the system document are dead.

Is the revision to Wild Talents a full system revision that will bring all the games under the system into revision or is it simply an expansion of the rules used by wild talents for use with wild talents exclusively?

If it is a revision is there an srd or pdf of the second edition changes?

RPGs / Gaming Music
« on: February 14, 2011, 04:37:44 PM »
I integrated some music into my game simply by playing that awful Mortal Kombat techno song last week.  When I did I saw all my players perk up and after the game they said that that was one of the things they liked most out of the session.  I was hoping for some suggestions as to creepy music to use for CoC or some pulpy music for my pulp game when I have time to run again.

Well ladies and gentleman the time is upon us to commence.  Let's start with some character descriptions and a nice opening action.  Awayyyy we go...

All of you live in a trashed home on the outskirts of suburbia.  The rent is at least three months behind and the booze, women, and drugs have all trickled away.  Today's the first and you all know what that means...a visit from Haggar Souts, your landlord.  The man epitomizes the word slum lord.  His speedy pace, slicked back graying hair, and money hungry expression let you know he means buisness.  You all hunker back and let him sit outside and stew.  He waits for a while and then his face turns bright crimson as he pulls a paper from inside his illfitted polyester suit and affixes it to your door.  He stomps off to his Mercedes and peels out leaving a trail of torn and melted rubber in his wake.

So whatcha gonna do?  Describe a nice intro scene for you character and what your character is doing at the beginning of the game.

RPGs / Coolest or lamest idea for a game
« on: September 21, 2010, 06:59:06 PM »
Well I've run into a wall in my Savage Worlds game again, so I guess its time for a one-off.  I got the idea from an old KODT strip. Here's the setup.

WUSHU Rock and Roll:Ready to Rock

The Player characters in this each play a band member in a rock band named as they choose.

The point of the RPG is to have fun and go through the many misadventures of the rock band. The PC’s start out with a garage that they owe rent on, a band, and nothing else.  It’s up to them whether they succeed or fail, so be prepared to go far, far off the rails. How they decide to make it is up to them.

Examples of conflicts:

Some band from across town is invading your turf.  What you gonna do about it?

The roadies haven't been paid in three months.  Roadie revolt....

A music producer shows up.  How you gonna wow him?

The crowd is going ape shit.  They're crushing the people in front.

A group of bikers just started a fight in the crowd.  How do you stop them?

That security guard whose wife you slept with betrays you and gives your demo tape to the enemy.  At the battle of the bands someone else is playing your song.  What are you gonna do?

If anyone has an idea that they'd like to add to this pool go for it.  I'm looking for any semirealistic ideas.  Somehow I hope to work in Brick Top from Snatch though.

RPGs / Most odd yet somehow fascinating RPG setting?
« on: July 13, 2010, 08:52:50 PM »
There are plenty of great RPG settings out there.  Many of which are choked to death by an awful rules system (poor, poor Rifts).  What's your favorite odd RPG idea?

Here's one to start:

Badass Presidents
http://www.1km1kt.net/rpg/badass-presidents

Badass Presidents is an RPG about playing super-powered American Presidents as they fight against cthulean space horrors, Evil Jesus, and reborn deities in a post-apocalyptic world.

Just the thought of a superpowered Honest Abe sucker punching Zeus is hilarious enough to merit a mention.

RPGs / Best free RPG?
« on: July 13, 2010, 08:21:41 PM »
With a huge list of free RPG's also comes a huge list of stinkers.  For many of these obscure free games there are no reviews, so what is the best free rpg system?

Try not to bash on games you don't personally like in this thread. When you list them try to list the genre too.

RPGs / A New Superheroes Game
« on: June 26, 2010, 11:32:12 PM »
I'm running a game in  a couple of weeks in which the characters are playing villians.  The idea here is that the city will be a sandbox type environment and the overarching goal of the party is to become top dog in the criminal underworld.
The problem that I'm running into is that one of the players has created a build that is ungodly.  He's making a character that has the phasing ability as well as the ability to cause instant death by touch.  This will lead to many a bullshit experience especially since these particular players have had many PvP moments.
The min/max king here can easily get around all of the security in the world and can down an ally or enemy with little resistance.  What is a good way to deal with this situtaion?  If it helps the system that I'm using is Savage Worlds.
