: Downloading older episodes and converting them to mp3
: beej June 13, 2010, 12:37:16 PM
Hi,

The really old RPPR episodes, when I hit the 'download' button it plays in quicktime in my IE/Firefox.  How do I get them into MP3 form so I can put them on my itouch?

Instead of just clicking it, right click and hit Save As (or Save Link Target As).

I'm planning the big epic conclusion of the Heroic tier of my New World game and I want to mine all the episodes for advice and tidbits from the comfort of my mp3 player.

Another technical question, the files I download, what do I have to do to get I-tunes to think they belong with the RPPR podcasts and not as entries in 'music' section?

All RPPR episodes and New World episodes use the same file name scheme if this helps

RPPR Episodes http://media.blubrry.com/rppr/slangdesign.com/rppr/RPPR_EpisodeXX.mp3 where XX is the episode number

New World http://media.blubrry.com/rppr/slangdesign.com/rppr/RPPR-4E-DnD-New-World-GameXX.mp3 where XX is the episode number

No clue. worst case scenario is you have to listen to it in the music section but what's wrong with that?

I'm OCD about my itunes.   I'm downloading everything prior to Feb 09 (which I've never listended to) and was hoping I could organize it into the RPPR and Actual Play podcasts.  Damn.

In iTunes 9+ if you go right click on it, go to Get Info, go to Options, where it says Media Kind, change it to Podcast.

It may create a new RPPR entry in the podcast list, but it will be in the Podcast section.

Yeah, iTunes kind of sucks with its auto sorting, but changing the media kind will allow it to at least show up in the podcast area (though you should be able to also integrate it into the same "feed")...

Well I got them all into the podcast section, how do I intergrate a feed?

If you get an ID3 tag editor which can edit extended tags ( like www.mp3tag.de/en/ )

Then edit the files to add these tags with values:
TUNESPODCAST   ............  1
ITUNESPODCASTDESC   ...  [whatever you want to show up as the episode name]
ITUNESPODCASTID  ........  [the url for the episode]
ITUNESPODCASTURL .......  [the url used to subscribe to the podcast]
RELEASETIME   ...............  in the format - 2008-03-07T17:30:00Z

Then add them into iTunes and they should go into the feed.
