Hey ross i see some adventures in there that we never got to hear,
do you have some of those APs recorded?
-
Congrats! Two books in one week. Shane said there would be copies ready in time for gencon. Now I just got to figure out how to get all the stuff home.

yes I have more APs recorded
will you get to listen to them? well no if you aren't going to buy it :'(
if I increase your post count will you buy a copy?
-
if I increase your post count will you buy a copy?
Maybe if you gave him blue status stars, but not mod status.
-
I love the postcards. I'll buy it. Important question: How long is it going to take to actually be in my hands, though?
I ordered Bigger Bads and Targets of Op the day after the interview with Scott Glancy was published and my order is listed as "processing".
-
Will there be a .pdf only purchase option as with MAOCT core book? The additional shipping for a physical product to the UK and the bending over I'll get from customs more than doubles the cost of the book for me, at no benefit to Ross nor Arc :(
-
Hey Ross I was one of your playtesters, do I contact you or Shane Ivey about claiming my free copy?

I believe the product you're asking about is here. I got my digital copy already and am quite pleased with it. :)
I love the postcards. I'll buy it.
Why thank you. I did the Area 51 and Pastoral Manor cards, Violet (aazuredragon on the forums) did the Eternal Glades and Sucrose Park cards. Super fun project.
-
Sweet! My searching ability is sucky, but I can take the dignity hit for the pdf :)
-
What's the Cool Rat ratio in this book?
I fear I won't buy it unless it is higher than 15:1.

You can pick them up at Gencon for sure. Where did you order them from?

Yes, yes it is.
Buy it.

ArcDream Publishing, same store you linked to above. Got the PDFs right away, just haven't heard anything about the physical books.
Is Road Trip going to be at GenCon? Because I'd gladly hand over cash on the spot for the thing then instead of dealing with shipping.
-
It's being printed right now. It will be at Gencon - orders will go out after Gencon.
As for Bigger Bads and Targets, I assume they will be shipped after Gencon as well.
-
Alright, so I'll just pick up a copy in person at the Con. That way I can get a vial of the authors blood to go with it, that'll help the collector's value or something. Better get Ean's blood too, since he drew the post cards. Good thing I'm not flying, all these blood taking tools and test tubes probably wouldn't go over well with airport security.

I want stars!

idk how to change that just for you

give him mod status but set his privs to zero

Buying your book.
I suppose owning MAOCT first would help.

What a great birfday present: a Kindle from my parents, and a new Monsters book from Ross Payton With Role-Playing Public Radio! Of course, I had to pay for the latter item. Ah well. Thank God they implemented PDF zoom in the latest Kindle software update.

Did you have your likeness animated just for the sales pitch, or is this some sort of regular cartoon you've made with your visage?

Bought it, skimmed through it, love the in references.
Was Project Long Stairs meant for Road Trip before it happened in Age of Masks?
I love that Cody and Tom show up in the last chapter, even though I couldn't find Cody's stats (other than him having a .45). I'm gonna have work Hep C into General Walker's character. "If Hep C couldn't take me, what odds do these cultists have?"
ALSO ROSS YOU NEED TO RUN SUNNY VALE AT GENCON. I DEMAND IT.

I stole Long Stairs from MAOCT author Ben Baugh. It started as a thread on rpg.net http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=391379
-
That would explain why he gets thanked there. I was wondering about that.
-
did you buy tickets for any of my games crash?
-
No, unfortunately. I don't really have money for things like Gencon right now (I probably shouldn't have bought your book either, but dammit there was just too much win inside). I'm just figuring that at some point we'll get some Actual Plays from it, and I really want to see how you play the Sentai Rangers (I'm guessing it will be similar to Coolrat in terms of
cheesiness awesomeness).

Oh I already ran Sunny Vale for the regular RPPR crew
-
Ah, well fair enough. That's probably going to beat out any GenCon game. I didn't see it on the AP site, so I assume that's in the TO-UPLOAD bin?
-
yup
uploading cyberpunk now
-
yes!!!!!!
-
Wait; Ross wrote a book?
-
Ross, thanks for writing a totally awesome campaign. I just ran Sucrose Park for my group as a one-shot and now they want to play the rest of it.
The only thing I regret from it was that they killed Coolrat.

Awesome! Did they befriend the Brain Trust?

Awesome! Did they befriend the Brain Trust?
They didn't really talk to him too much. The kids who got captured were more focused on trying to take over their cliques than anything else. One of the kids was a race car driver and tried to take out Brain Trust with his go-cart. They saved it from Robbie Drake, and then they convinced it that it needed to blow up the park to stop the cult from taking the robot factory.
It was fun to play the three different minds of the Brain Trust because they all had different nationalities and, therefore, all got different accents. Additionally, Brain Trust is a terrible Costello to Coolrat's Abbot.
Coolrat: "Who's on first?"
Brain Trust: "YES. THERE IS A PLAYER ON FIRST BASE WITH THE UNFORTUNATE NAME OF 'WHO'".
The only thing that kind of bugged me was that Ratchet and Higgins didn't have stats. It was easy enough to just make them threats (that system is amazingly useful), though, so it wasn't much of a problem.

Finished up Sunny Vale tonight (though Skype crashed so I lost like half of my recording).
Half the party was more interested in trying to kill the Rangers, so Zoltron (in an attempt to make it less crazy) informed them about the ritual.
Goddamn are the Sentai Rangers strong. I mean, it makes sense, as they're a team of monster-fighting superheroes. Jesus, though, even outnumbered 2 to 1 against monsters, they pretty much beat the shit out of the kids' monsters. If it weren't for Zoltron and the Ritual, those monsters would have been destroyed.
I suppose this is to deter direct combat against the rangers, since as a team they would be completely unstoppable.
One of the players actually disarmed a Ranger, grabbed their weapon, and got dominated by it, which led to a pretty cool bit of RP.
In the end, Zoltron destroyed the rangers weapons and was killed by Roger.
-
Ross, I bought your book but they won't give it to me.
Its been a month. I have the pdf but it just isn't the same.
You might have nothing to do with this but I've e-mailed shane@arcdream.com twice about the lateness of my order. Sunday Jan 15 will mark one month of me waiting for it since Arc Dream took the money out of my account.
I don't want to sound like an ass but I'm getting a little frustrated. I thought it would arrive somewhere near the 1st of Jan, in time for some Holiday gaming.
Turn the screws on them for me. My order number is 566. I don't want to do anything rash but I was even shipped a LIVE TREE in less time than this book is taking. Kill them Ross. I want to play your game. :'(

Yeah, they are supposed to be pretty badass. It probably didn't help that my group had uber minmaxed monsters - attack powers with +5 gnarly and a few levels of wicked - Tom's monster in particular could pretty much wreck anything in one shot. In the playtest notes I got back, I don't remember encountering much in the way of other groups fighting the rangers so I never gave it much thought. Did your players just hated that they killed weird monsters and decided they had to die?

Kinda. Maze's monster got fucked up by them earlier in the game (after he decided to cause some property damage), so he had a personal vendetta to settle with them. The other kid wasn't such a fan, but didn't care too much either. His monster actually snapped the neck of the gold ranger (though she's basically Rorschach, so it's a fitting end).
In fact, only one kid really liked them, but the kid he was working with threw a car through a building to get their attention and he botched his attempts at diplomacy (and I no matches and all dice under 5 critical failure), so they ended up getting in a life and death struggle.
Only one weapon was destroyed through non-ritual means (the weapon that dominated a player).
I don't even know how to play Monsters and I"m considering buying this book. Well in a few months I might. Right now I"m poor.
It's from Session 1 of our Skype Road Trip game (http://community.roleplayingpublicradio.com/blog/2010/12/17/skype-road-trip-session-1-eds-diner-redux/), back when I was planning to make it a succession of one-off games. I was re-running Ed's Diner (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nj0a8hLREnBv_VgmwWFfbWS3VHEzzQodFh-Us-rPblc/edit?hl=en) (which you can totally listen to on the community site). This was the first session I wrote for MaOCT so it suffered from a lot of problems and was basically 3 hours of combat against wait-staff who were also trained in magical arts and their boss Ed Parsons, who turned into a guido with a copy of the Joisey Necronomicon (which is disguised as an issue of EasyRiders magazine).
During the course of this combat, Buttz the Battlefrog (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ij31KVVzmTcln2OXgDfyQHAVZgmjMu_MaQQtH7qhFZU/edit?hl=en) kicked a waitress in location 5 (guts) for enough damage that it would knock out a hit location. I told Maze that Buttz kicked a waitress in the Guts and she went down like a sack of potatoes, to which he responds something along the lines of "Oh shit, was she pregnant?" I didn't answer that question either way, but Sean decided to approach his illustration with his own ideas.
He has shutter shades! :D
Turns out I can crank out monster sketches like nobody's business.
-
Well yeah, you are obviously some kind of combination of the Bees Knees and the Cat's Pajamas.
-
ahahahaha
what I have wrought
-
I purchased your book Ross. I'm quite excited to see it when it gets here.
-
Hey Ross! I bought your book. It's cool.
You should write another one.
-
I did.
It's called Zombies of the World.
It's coming out this summer.
-
Ross also has an essay in my book which comes out in May.
Also, Caleb has an essay in the book.
And the cover is done by New World artist, Ean Moody.
And I wrote an essay for it.
