First!
-
Wow nice!
I look forward to donating! This looks pretty epic.
-
Hopefully the first in a series of New World Codices. Donated. Wooo!
I think I once had a 3.5 book called heroes of battle that looks kind of like this. I think I lost it about a year ago
-
just a FYI - this ransom isnt just for me. Contributors like Cody and Ean Moody will get some $$$ too. That's why it is bigger than last time.

The dissertation proposal draft gets turned in this week, so I might be able to churn out some words for you.

Any requests?
-
Na its just too cold for Ross outside
-
Na its just too cold for Ross outside
Ross could live in a tundra with the amount of content energy at his control.
Request:
Aaron's other CoC game where apparently more boy scoutish hilarity ensues.
-
Coc and monsters.
-
seconded
-
Delta Green and monsters

OH MAN IT IS RAINING CONTENT TODAY
I AM JUST THAT AWESOME
So two things on Episode 41:
1. Great name
2. Was a bit confused at first since I had listened to several "Swing and a Miss" episodes lately and you used the same intro music
-
I used Re Your Brains because of Zombies of the World.
IS THAT ALL RIGHT
-
Yeah instad of CoC I would love to hear Delta Green instead. You only have the 1 On the site that I rember Would love to hear more.
-
K. I've already encoded the prototype DG/CoC crossover game - both sessions.
-
Woot, Im kinda sad after listing to ep 41 that my donations wont realy be going to any thing dedicated to world of synnibarr, but hey now I have reason to buy stuff off amazon! haha!
-
K. I've already encoded the prototype DG/CoC crossover game - both sessions.
Is Delta Green really a separate system? I wasn't sure, but I was always kind of under the impression that it was more of a "setting" for Call of Cthulhu (like Forgotten Realms to DnD)...
-
Do you have any more Mutants and Masterminds? I enjoyed the Age of Masks one.
Also, I want you guys to play Paranoia.
-
Delta Green is a setting for CoC.
We have several M&M games actually - Tom ran a few sessions of it and so did RJ (he started playing with us last fall but the APs haven't caught up to him yet)
-
K. I've already encoded the prototype DG/CoC crossover game - both sessions.
That was gonna be my request.
If you've got any APs using game systems we haven't already heard that'd be cool.

I haven't dug through the new AP site, but I know Ross has some real old APs using the Little Fears system. I'm not sure if we recorded the game session where we converted Smokin' Aces into a Psion game though. There was a really crazy Pantheon game that was recorded over July 4 weekend this year (well maybe a couple of them). And then another game using a game system I don't remember that Ross was playing with. I don't think that Little Fears or Pantheon have made it up as APs yet if that is what you are looking for Tad.
-
Oh man... I just finished listening to the last one again, then wondered what on earth I could listen to that would be roughly an hour.
EPISODE 41!
Great timing.
Oh, to answer the actual question - there was mention that there were further Yazuza games (leading to the machine gun incident) other than the one Tom and Jason partook in.
Were any of them recorded?
Otherwise, I think the ones people have already suggested sound cool.

The great Yakuza massacre of 2005? Unfortunately no, none of those session were recorded. Unless this was a different Yakuza game that you're referencing.
-
I think he means the one with the airplane gun and the leaping off a fifth story building with sword in hand.
-
that was the massacre game.
I'll encode the 4th of july games. And Omar Shakti must die! a CoC pulp action game
-

Is Omar Shakti Must Die! the game that we played after Burling's funeral? The game in which Orlen Johnson goes batshit crazy with a Barret 50cal against a cult?
-

yeah p much.
As for the APs - they are about 6 months behind I think so you won't hear from RJ for a while (except the world of darkness game as I ran that on Friday - it was a mystery so it dovetailed perfectly with episode 41)
-
How about some of codys New world. Would love to see your cleric and how he dms

Cody hasn't finished it yet.

I would like to hear our Monsters game from the Carnival. I thought that was a great game.
Also, we should play Monsters more.

Monsters is a great game. Such a nice break from CoC.

Coc and monsters.

I like this plan.

I've been working on a few ideas for Monsters. Specifically, a campaign that features a fast-food restaurant named MacDunnegal's moving into a quiet little town. It just so happens that MacDunnegal's has become such an icon in America that their mascots have taken on a life of their own. Literally. Suddenly, the mascots of MacDunnegal's are attacking the town and its up to our heroes to save the day.

why is this relevant? Because The New World Primer has over 12,000 downloads and the Goblin Hulk has over 11,000 downloads. So we kick ass. (you should contribute)

there's no real way to tell. Multiple people can download from the same IP or a single person can download the PDF from multiple IPs. The old plugin I used (podpress) only tracked from which way people downloaded it (feed or manual download) while powerpress does track by IP. Of course I only switched to powerpress in Dec. so we have two sets of stats.

Unfortunately, simply not paying attention to them won't work because the corporate machine has cast such a powerful sigil that the monsters are there to stay. The restaurant brings much needed work for teens of the town (the PCs?), it's one of the only fast food restaurants in town, and since the town is small and boring, it's also the only decent place to hang out. Coming from a small town, I know what I'm talking about on that front.

No, Ross, It's not alright. I listened to the episode and got confused and thought it was my podcast. Then I got REALLY confused to find out that I created Zombies of the World and had a sexy announcer voice. So... I guess it's okay. Just keep me informed on anything else awesome that I'm doing. ???

anyone listen to any of the preview episodes yet? Any thoughts on them? I'm especially curious about the other 4e D&D game - it's the first session I recorded of Bill's 4E game. I was a player. And there are non-rppr regular players! OMG
also: Omar Shakti must die is fucking insane. CoC pulp action with rules breaking PCs.
Survival City is atomic 50s themed survival horror
and the playtest of MAOCT sucrose park is pretty epic
-
I should free up some monies and pledge...
-
I've done my part, have you?

Just finished a two hour trip back home, and with that the last of the new podcasts already :(
Bill's game sounded fun - obviously, we missed the set of of it, sounded an interesting premise to be marooned on another plane. It's also fun to see you and bill swap GM and player rolls (and back again in the New Wolrd) - mostly because you can then rag on each other about not allowing beholders to be dropped in the sea, and 70 hit point plants! The group dynamic seemed good, and Bill's different flavour of GM also makes it an interesting series to hopefully get more of. Now we just need Cody's game!
Omar Shakti is probably more fun for the CoC players since it finishes off their characters' stories fro ma previous game, and also lets them take insane powers. Still, as an entertaining action game instead of a CoC horror, I have no complaints. MVP has to be Tom's creepy character, though (Tina?) with her contant 00s and general rules exploiting was good too.
I think I completely shared Cody's views about the two parts of the Prototype game. The first has the really great theme of the everymen getting out of their depth, and the group dynamic as they investigate. Jason's rock incident, and all the ramifications of that are truly hilarious.
The second prototype is entertaining for the divisions of the fighters and investigators, and the reacts to the situations, but doens't have the same atmosphere to it.
I really like the 'Don't Rest Your Head' game from many angles. The system sounded like it was interesting, it was great hearing you guys explore it from fresh, but mostly everyone seemed on fire too. Bill brought the weird world to life with all the variety of characters, Tom's people-hated laundromat attendant was fun, your logical guy bounced well off of him and had his intense moments at the end, etc
I was distracted this morning studying, so the Survival City episode I don't recall as much about, might have to give it another listen. The ending was well done, and I managed to contain a loud laugh on the train regarding the reason Cody's mayor wandered what year it was.
The Candlewick manor game is a cool contrast sicne I assume it's from the senario as Ben himself ran, just you put the players in a different direction and got them into the town. I think because the players got luckier with their echoes and revelations more plot got entered in the short amount of time, showing how the senario can go.
Hmm, don't recall the Sucrose one, and can't find it with the other mp3s, which means a) my iPod has stuck it in another section, and b) I STILL HAVE SOMETHING TO LISTEN TOO! Something pretty epic, apparently.
In general such a concentration of awesome makes me realise how good a player Tom is (And he's amongst many good players). He can play up the voices and mannerisms to keep characters feeling different, but also the morality of the characters is often wildly different.
-

This is why I always loved playing with Tom. It's too bad the Masks of Nyarlathotep game was not recorded. Tom had some great characters in that game and we often fed off of one another.
Also in Ross' first post, he said,
WAR WAS BEGINNING
I think he meant to say "War were declared (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQkaD6fG8mk)."
-
I got Candlewick and Sucrose Park downloaded but my home connection is still down and my office connection is blocking me now. I'll have to go to the coffee shop to get the rest.
Sucrose Park made me fall out of my chair. It's awesome and hilarious. "God, how much milk did you drink kid?!"

What was that in reference to? I suck at remembering specific elements of scenarios

I never broke the rules, I merely exploited the already overpowered combat rules of the system with an equally overpowered combat monkey.

all the PCs were technically rulebreaking monsters - CoC isn't meant to have super assassins, ghouls and gadgeteers with yithian hypertech running around.

The roller coaster ride. Timothy made himself look alive so he could ride it with Dan. He went around twice and made a roll to keep from getting sick. He made the first and failed the second. I think Timmy failed both so during the second run you said he throw up ectoplasm.
At that point everyone felt the desire to chime in with various statements regarding large volumes of thick white fluid. One of the first, and funniest for me, was someone asking "God, how much milk did you drink kid?!"
-
Ive downloaded all 10 and put them on my phone. There in there calling to me, making me want to listen to them but 2 more days and ill be back on my normal schedual and ill be able to listen to them!
-
Ok, just listened to Sucrose park, and it's as epic as advertised. I probably made people mad on a bus by laughing at the whole exchange that ended with "How do you spell...." "Thank you"
Also, Cool Rat is my god now.

COOL RAT IS COOL
what was the exchange about? I don't even remember that part. I only remember Cody being absolutely adamant that the brain trust learned a lesson when in fact it insisted that it did not learn any such lesson.
-
Oh, that was great too, but before that was the encounter with the Ratchet Nurse that just kept going. Wish I had seen both your expressions as it went on.
-
Ross, I just listened to the 3 New World episodes you put on there.
"...the archers draw their bows... ok, let's continue this next week."
You bastard...

I've played just that exchange for three people and they've all nearly pissed themselves. It's best once it really kicks into high gear after Ross runs out of real answers and starts BSing.

I just re-listened to the segment you mentioned. It starts around 01:44 or so. Cody tries to overload a robot's brain with retarded questions. It doesn't work.

I suspect he was also tryign to overload a GM's brains. It was an impressive display of games mastery to keep feeding him answers. The feral children reference was almost buried but you got it back in there.

thinking of adding some new rewards
30 buck reward
Get early access to every game of Delta Green: Night Shift that I ran at Gencon and Dragoncon in addition to the 10 preview episodes.
Alternative 50 buck reward:
We record a message of up to 3 minutes for you - want us to be your answering machine or voice mail message? Or for me to read something really dumb in my announcer voice? NO PROBLEM
100 buck reward - I will run a 2-4 hour game online for you using Skype and/or maptools or whatever program you want. You pick the system but if you pick something I've never run then I will probably suck with the rules.

Another 50 dollar reward could be, the RPPR crew will voice act a skit written by the person making the donation.

100 buck reward - I will run a 2-4 hour game online for you using Skype and/or maptools or whatever program you want. You pick the system but if you pick something I've never run then I will probably suck with the rules.

He said "you pick the system." AND I KNOW ROSS OWNS THE BOOK!

there will be a lot of crying though in the actual game

AND IT WILL BE RECORDED RIGHT!
-
yeah. I will leave it up to the donating person if they want it publicly posted or not.
-
Anything Synnibarr must be recorded! It would be what Raven McCracken would want.
-
So Whats up with all the yatta yatta comments lately in the game!? I hope I didnt cause this. If so Im sorry and you all are clearly men.
-
even.......Cinnabar?
Even The World of Cinnabon.
-
I'm actually cool with just having an NPC in the Codex. I'm still gonna donate more but I don't really need a Ross and Tom phone message.
-

Eh? Which game are you referring to?

If you can convince Aaron to play an evil Bright Eyes, I'm sure we'll all give more money.

Yeah. And I'll donate in exchange for some of the green cheese the moon's made out of, if you have any on hand.

I think its dan or bill cant rember but they keep saying it in the background. I heard it first in one of the new world AP from the ransom, and I think in Sucrose Park.

Ran the first EPIC TIER New World game tonight.
The colony now has a proper name.
ALL KINDS OF SHIT WENT DOWN
HOLY SHIT WAS IT ACTION PACKED

Additional question on the possible new reward. If I put up $100, can I also release the game on my podcast? I'd be happy to coordinate it so that it was a simultaneous release. I am REALLY tempted to make you run the worst game of all time that has been mentioned previously, but I think I'd rather choose CoC so that I have nightmares rather than you.

I think if you put up $100, not only should Ross record and simultaneously release it, but you should make Ross have nightmares. ;)
Ross' CoC scenarios are some of the best I've ever played in though (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiVYjRbZMe0&feature=player_embedded)...

Sure. That's a good point and I hadn't even thought about that.

Okay, who wants to chip in $20 so we can have a game with Ross?
I'm in!

I was listening to the podcast and just realized how potentially creepy recording the 30 second mp3 could be...
I can't think of a specific example, but I could just imagine you getting a really weird request...

Donate enough to get two.
Request one of Ross moaning.
Request one of Tom moaning.
Once you get them, overlay them, add porno sound track, and publish on the internet.
And that's just from, like, thirty seconds of brainstorming. Probably could get creepier if I put thought into it.

I don't know if this is an incentive or a de-incentive, but if anyone donates $100, I will propose a Creative Writing or Composition class on RPGs and Narrative Storytelling at UW-Milwaukee where I teach. No promises that it would be improved, but I'll at least request it.
-

I would like to "me too" this also.

Ross should add more incentives. Like for 250 dollars the RPPR crew will dress up in cosplay. For 500 dollars, the RPPR crew will video record a 30 min LARP game based on Interview with a Vampire set in the OWoD universe.

Sensual pictures of me for $100.
Just me holding a Cthulhu doll. Nothing more.
Meaning that I'm naked.
-
I get the game with Ross AND sensual Cthulhu pictures from Cody. Where do I sign up?
Follow-up question, what is my reward if I can get a Skype game with a prostitute set up? I have to believe I could get that together.

For 250 can you get the prostitute to pose with you? The trick is the prostitute has to be in cthulhu cosplay (http://www.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=4987292).

I think the Futurama line was "It's OK, Bender. There's no such thing as 2." But it's been years since I've seen it.

Yeah me too. I couldnt recall it but I did my best.

Yeah me too. I couldnt recall it but I did my best.
The first time I watched the episode my friend James and I both looked at each other and said "did you see a 2"? Our friend Nikki goes, what's wrong with 2? And James and I say, almost at the same point Fry does, "there's no such thing as 2." Nikki found this hillarious.

As a follow up, have much of a description should we provide from the NPC submissions? Should they be just race, class, and appearance or can we provide some character modivation and background?
-
Are there any guidelines as to the type of npc?
I was thinking of sending my dual scimitar wielding kender bard. He really kicks ass!
-
I think a note requesting he not be beheaded by a PC right away would be a good idea :p
-
Hey I been wondering, did somone just donate 2 cents to the ransom or did they donate X-dollers and 2 cents? Cause if it was just 2 cents thats awsome!
-

What no one else?
Dammit I can't fork over $80 by myself!

I replied also.

okay so thats 60$ which is £39.90... good but i won't be able to swing that past the wife.
Anyone else?
Time of your life offer of playing a game with Ross!

Well, not time of my life. I'm goin' to GenCon, I'll probably sign up for one of his games there. I don't plan to pay in the Skype game, I'm just donating money so you can. I'll up it to 50 if we can wait until next Friday to actually make the donations.

Tad do you have some kind of trust fund that we don't know about? You're always the one that donates the most. We appreciate it, but we don't want you to have to take out a second mortgage or anything. 8)
-
At least 3 of the Nerdbound folks were interested. I'll have a better count on Sunday, but we may be able to combine forces. Even if we do a Nerdbound game ourselves, I'm not opposed to throwing in $20 to play in another game. Gotta spend that tax return.
-

I'm just one of those weird guys who devotes a fairly large portion of my income to my hobbies. My fiance and me are Dinks, though now that we're playing for a mortgage (first mortgage) I'm not throwing around the loose cash like I might have in the past.
That's why I only put up 50 and not more. But since this ransom is long enough to run across more than one paycheck I can make multipule donations.

I love you Tad, not as much as Cody but I do

I didn't quote the text as I'm using my mobile to update, but I was referring to Wooberman's request. Let me know of you need additional contributors. I don't want Tad to go bankrupt and lose his Internet access . . . or house.
-
So when are you gonna post the podcast for the 30+ buck people?
message me on kickstarter
Did it also subed my NPC. If you want any extra info Just let me know I left him pretty open.
-
Hmm, the first gencon game seems to cut about five minutes from the end.... any memory of how it ended?
-
While not being able to view or post on the forums as much as I would like, I appreciate RPPR and it's entertaining greatness. To show off my generosity in public, I just dropped $200 in the kickstarter bucket for the ransom... the rewards are what sucked me in. I can't wait to play my skype game with Ross.
Any of you RPPR forum dwellers have any suggestions for games? I'm thinking of Rogue Trader right now, but I'd love to hear your thoughts (Ross included). Just keep in mind I'll want it recorded and posted.
Thanks guys.
-
CoC and Monsters! If I rember right Ross may own the rogue trader books but has never played them so might be kinda ehh. But I could be wrong. as for the huge donation WOW!

I promise you it will be well worth it. Also, you need to make sure Ross runs TWO game sessions for you for donating 200 instead of 100.
-
If Ross hasn't run Rogue Trader, i'd listen to the wisdom of crowds and go with CoC or Monsters or Wild Talents. You could likely get into the Rogue Trader game Tad GMs via Skype.
-
Tads games of Rogue Trader were great. I still fully recomend going threw Vent for tad though, due to Skypes crappy Quality.
-
OH YE OF LITTLE FAITH
If you want me to run rogue trader, I will FUCKING RUN ROGUE TRADER AND IT WILL FUCKING SHATTER YOUR LITTLE MIND FROM HOW FUCKING GREAT IT IS
POETS WILL WEEP BLOOD AFTER HEARING THIRD HAND ACCOUNTS AT HOW GREAT THIS GAME OF ROGUE TRADER WAS
NATIONS WILL BE SHATTERED - THE PROPHECY SHALL BE FULFILLED - IRAN WILL GIVE UP ITS NUCLEAR PROGRAM
seriously, I will learn the rules, force some of the rppr crew to play it before I run it on skype and it shall be glorious
you don't even know
YOU DONT EVEN KNOW
btw - at hotel for fear the con - first day was great and I will post Delta Green: Operation Obsidian, a Vietnam era game based on unpublished notes written by Scott Glancy on Monday
Also I will upload Tom's Gencon games to the preview section soon
-
Geez Ross, insecure much?
I just figured you should go with something you know is going to be great rather than something that will probably be great. Then again I'm not a betting man and I know that I'll rarely get the chance to play CoC with my group.
Besides, can't a guy give his thoughts on something on the internet without someone acting like an asshole and blowing the comment way out of proportion? Wait, that statement is redundant since it includes someone acting like an asshole and the internet.
See I just did it in reference to your comment! Now we're in a reverse infinite regress that ends with both of us dying lonely, inconsequential, horrible deaths. Oh the humanity.
Anyway, I would like to hear a Rogue Trader game if you end up putting it together. I'm sure it'll be fun. I don't even remember what I typed above in that rant and am too lazy to re-read, so . . .
-
Did I actually kill this tread by screwing around? I was just joking I swear! Come back everyone.
-
No, you are shunned. :-X
-
NOT SHUNNNNEEEEDDDDD!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
-
Can you accommodate 8 people in a Skype game? Just wondering how many folks you think is doable electronically. It's definitely different than Con games when you are sitting in the same room.
Also, if my crew is putting money together, do we all pool it for one donation, or can we each just tag our names as NerdBound when contributing? We're pretty stoked to do a Skype game and I don't wanna miss the chance.
-
whoever actually pays the money to the kickstarter calls the shots - number of other people in the game (within reason), what game will be played etc
So just make sure you trust the person who has the kickstarter account
-
Less than $200 until completion of the ransom!
-

Well, I'm sure as hell not going to put money in on something I'll end up having to write a few thousand words for. ;)
-
WIMP!
-
Well I dropped $150 with the help of my colleagues, so I'm hesitant to put in more yet. Now if you need an extra $50 to push it over the limit, then I could be persuaded to step in.

I don't think it'll be a problem. There is still over two weeks left on the ransom. Just need to advertise it around more.
-
I'm sure it'll make it there too. Can't wait to release the hounds of war on some unsuspecting colonists.

Is that what the kids are calling it these days?
I'll throw some more into the pot at payday, amount met or not.

Okay guys there's less than $100 left on the ransom so whoever wants to contribute to the once in a lifetime game with Ross PM me and we can organise this bitch!
If we don't have the full 5 man group then i'll make up the shortfall.
C'mon we can do this!
-
Hells bells. That means I have to start writing.

2 Slots left in the 5 man group...

Cody doesn't have 40+ freshman/sophomore research writing students to teach and grade this semester like I do or MBA homework everyday like Ross does. Don't feel sorry for him. He should be doing most of the writing on this project.

If you have to read shitty, uninspired, poorly punctuated papers, you might as well be reading about frog cunts.

-
Wooberman, did you get my message?

well the 5 man group have $80 sitting in my paypal account but we've had a drawback and one guy has had to bow out.
So we're looking for one more!
Update - I've topped this off but still waiting for one more guy to play with us, so long as he/she can pay :P

As long as you're funding the project, Ross will never get tired of you. I promise.
EDIT: In fact, even though the project is technically "funded," it doesn't mean the awards will go away. So, if you or someone you know wants to keep donating 100 dollar chunks, I'm sure Ross will still run some games.
-
I'm already tentatively in 4 games, so I think I am good for now. That'll be hard enough to coordinate. But I can't make it to Cons, so it's worth it.
-

Yeah, I can't wait to see what Ross does with the Skype games. We were discussing running a Skype game someone where I would play as an antagonist against a group of players. I have a tendency to break Ross' games by either accident or sheer will (and not break in a bad way, just figure out how to use the system logic in my and my party's favor).
-
If anyone else wants to put together a Skype group, I'm down. (Though I'm not actually sure if I'm eligible. I'm going to be involved in producing the module.)

At 25 dollars an hour, $100 / 4 hours, I'm sure Ross would make DM'ing a full time job. (He's got bills to pay you know.)

Just art as far as I know, though I'd be really excited to try writing a small section somewhere if the help is needed. I'm not really an experienced writer, so I wouldn't feel comfortable jumping in on a big or complex portion of the writing.
I'm putting together a book right now and struggling because of sheer volume and inexperience, so a mini-apprenticeship working with some talented writers might be good for me. :)

Do you help fill out wooberman's group? If so, you are going to get really tired of me... I think I just might take up stalking you. It may seem less creepy.
-
Wait, did you fill out his group too? Goddamnit. Though I was number four when he had two spots left. If you were in before that, I am technically stalking you. By the end of this we can create our own podcast "shotgun and neil's best friends forever accidental gaming group actual play podcast" or SANBFFAGGAPP to be concise.
-
Nah. I nabbed the last spot this morning... I stalk YOU.
Too bad the SAN BF FAG GAPP.com domain is already registered. I think you had something going there.
-
You can't win for losing. Maybe some day.
Also, I guess I'll watch my back in any dark alleys. It's the price of internet fame. Worth it.
-
Well good news Neil, The SAN BF FAG GAPP group consists of You, your unnamed buddy, Ristarr, Shotgun and myself.
Its gonna be a hoot!
-
I have a question. You give 50 and you submit a character. If you've given another 50 you submit another character or does it turn into the game reward?
-
You can choose.
Also: THE SECRET REWARD
Anyone who contributes $50 or more from now on can choose a new reward: a sketch from Ean Moody of their PC (or whatever else).
Ean will fill in the details.
-

-
Damn you Ross. My checking account can't handle these rewards! I'm givin' her all she's got.
-
THE SECRET REWARD: Part Deux - The details
This is for anyone who contributes $50 or more from this point forward: In addition to an an NPC in the book you also get a free illustration of the NPC, a PC you like, or some other character of your choice. This is a proper comission, so you'll get a sketch so you can approve the work, ensure that your character is accurate, and you can get specific about poses, props, and other considerations. You'll also receive an 8x10 signed print of your art as long as you live in the U.S. (Depends what shipping ends up costing for international) If it's relevant to the Codex, the art will be used in the module with your permission.
People who contributed $100 or more during the actual fundraiser will also get a piece of art, as an extra thank-you for your generosity. :)
For an example of my recent character art and such, check out my blog at http://moodyillustrator.blogspot.com (http://moodyillustrator.blogspot.com). If you want your art in a particular style, I'll do my best, but what you see there is the style I'm best at.
To people who already contributed the $100 or more: shoot me a private message or email to let me know what you're interested in, and I'll start working up sketches.
To everyone else: You rock just for being here.

Awesome, a new reason to donate more money.

Wow... that's a pretty nice prize.
Starting to work my way through the bonus APs. Omar Shakti Must Die is worth the price of admission. I thought the super-science character was a little annoying, but memories of auto-hitting ghouls and beheading cultist from the shadows will stay with me forever. That stuff was crazy.

You should be careful. She's got friends in high places.

I loved it. I mean I was completely aware from the start that it was April 1st and all but it was still great. Great acting from everybody. Except Tom and Ross, who just sort of played themselves.

We came up with it while eating dinner before we did Omar Shanti Must Die!
It was completely spur of the moment and the only reason Karee and I were there is that we had come down for the funeral of one of my Ross, Cody, Jason, and my former professor / academic advisor.

Right, and because you never get to play with Ross or the others anymore there was a big blow out of gaming. That's why you and her are in so many of he bonus games.
But Ross also mentioned a fourth of July gaming special, which I think Survival City was part of. Is that all the same time frame or where those seperate events?

Separate. We went down to Springfield over the July 4 weekend last year. We recorded Survival City and a least one Pantheon game that has yet to be released.
EDIT: I/we would be up for doing Skype games, but we're both really busy. Plus we like the live interaction. Although, as I noted above, I may end up playing a live antagonist for some of the Skype games Ross runs. Mostly all I'm involved in now is game design and telling Ross how I would break his scenarios like "Are You There God, It's Me a Monster."

Is Pantheon that collective storytelling game?

Yes. In the one we ran, we all played gods.

I recall that having been mentioned a long time ago and then not hearing anything more about the game, much like Paranoia XP and CthulhuTech.

Just letting you guys know that we are hard at work on the Codex. Moving slowed me down, but I've torn out a couple of 1000 words this weekend so far and will probably have close to 4000 before the end of the day. I'm going to try and convince Ross to release some teaser text while it's still in draft stage. Either way, let me assure you, the wait will be well worth it.
-
I, also, have written much and I think it's pretty damn good if I do say so myself.
-
We dont want a teaser! we want full nude, no nipple cups, show me potato Salad!

This is a sample archetype from the Tyrant section of the supplement.
The Nativist
Race: All nativists must belong to one of the native tribes of the New World.
Age: Middle age or older. Nativists should be paragons of their class.
Class/Powers: All nativists must belong to a class that blends charismatic leadership with supernatural power. Nativists use their supernatural powers to impress and intimidate their followers into strict devotion to their cause as well as provide evidence of the oracularity of their visions.
Example: Falling Crow is a feared necromancer of the Black Raven Tribe. She is well on her way to becoming a lich. Besides her ability to summon and bind Raven Mocker, she commands an army of devoted followers.
Description: The nativist is a native tribal leader who has a xenophobic hatred for the colonists. She views the eradication of all colonists, including colonists’ physical settlements and colonial social influences, as necessary to cleanse the land and create native utopia. While for some nativists this xenophobic hatred may develop because of a series of wrongs caused by the colonists over an extended time, it may develop overnight for other nativists. Despite the differences in how this xenophobic hatred develops, for all nativists the hatred culminates in the overwhelming obsession to eradicate the colonists and create a native utopia.
Falling Crow had a vision of a society in which all the native tribes lived and traded peacefully with each other. Because her vision did not include the newly arrived colonists, she interpreted the vision as a sign of what would come if the colonists were destroyed. Using her vision as a rhetorical tool and her powerful abilities as a Black Raven necromancer, Falling Crow has raised an army of likeminded natives to achieve her vision.
History: The nativist first appears in a time of uncertainty regarding who controls the land. This time typically occurs after the colonists have established themselves as a potential political, social, and military power in the New World, but before they have come to dominate politically, socially, or militarily. So even though the power of the colonists is waxing while the power of the indigenous tribes is waning, the two groups have not completely switched positions. The nativist rises in attempt to fill this power vacuum.
Any number of events can precipitate the nativist’s rise once the political, social, or military conditions are right. Perhaps the colonists destroy the nativist’s village or kill members of the nativist’s family that cause her to develop a lifelong vendetta against the colonists. Perhaps the nativist, as in the case of Falling Crow, has a vision of a native utopia devoid of colonists. Or perhaps, even, the nativist exhibits signs of fulfilling a tribal myth or oracle’s prophecy. Despite what form the triggering event may take, the time factor in the nativist’s rise is more important to her rise than the event itself.
Once a nativist rises to power, she always follows the same trajectory. She crafts her idea of a native utopia into a powerfully motivating narrative to attract followers. She begins by focusing on others that may share her sentiments toward the colonists and then shifts her focuses to different groups. Finally, once she has a powerful army built up, she will attack the colonists directly.
After her vision, Falling Crow immediately sought the aid of the Black Raven tribe’s most powerful seers and oracles. She explained her vision to the seers and oracles and what she believed the meaning was. She was so persuasive that among many of the seers and oracles, her vision has become a new myth of redemption. Falling Crow used this approval by the seers and oracles to help her attract other followers. As word of her vision spread, natives from different tribes started to seek out Falling Crow to join her ranks of devotees. She has amassed one of the largest native armies in the New World.
Casus Belli: The nativist’s casus belli is wholly dependent on her vision of a native utopia. She bases all of her actions on her vision and justifies all the consequences for those actions as helping to create her narrated utopia. Even if defeated in a battle, the nativist will emphasize the sacrifice slain followers have made for the cause. Although the nativist utopia is based on removing the colonists and their influences from the land through slaughter and destruction, she will not directly attack the colonists until she feels she is strong enough to fight them in open war. In the early stages of her rise to power, she will encourage gorilla fighting that will cause the colonists to respond militarily against native villages. Once the colonists have started to respond, the nativist will portray the colonists as the aggressors and use this portrayal to rally her followers and to attract new ones.
Although her vision was did not show how the colonists would be eradicated, Falling Crow does not hesitate in referring to the vision regarding even the most mundane of political, social, or military questions. This unwavering approach has caused even the most skeptical of Falling Crows followers to refer to Falling Crow’s vision as an inevitable end to the natives struggle against the colonists.
Leadership Style: The nativist is a totalitarian dictator. She has developed a strong cult of personality that she maintains despite whatever strong-arm tactics she employs. The nativist truly believes in her cause and demands total devotion to her cause from her followers. To gain such devotion, the nativist gives speeches and tells stories that empower her followers by representing them as a chosen people, while simultaneously playing on their fears of the colonists. While she works ceaselessly to recruit new followers and maintain her followers devotion, she is unmerciful to followers she feels have turned against the cause and punishes such transgressors severely. She often uses these punishments to serve as examples to her other followers and has the other followers carry out the punishment as tests of faith.
Falling Crow is quickly developing into a totalitarian dictator herself. While she initial sought out seers and oracles to confirm her vision, she has grown suspicious of all other natives both in the Black Raven tribe and other tribes that hold positions of power. As an already powerful necromancer, she is not easily intimidated.
Weaknesses: As a dictator, the nativist has two major weaknesses: she closely follows a predetermined course of action that corresponds to her utopian plan and she requires such strict devotion to that plan that she does not completely trust anyone. Politically and rhetorically savvy players could exploit her first weakness by exposing contradictions between the rhetoric the nativist uses to develop her cult of personality and the reality of her and her followers actions. While the nativist first weakness requires careful and patient planning on the players’ part, her second weakness makes her unpredictable both as an opponent and as a leader. She is likely to accuse her followers, even those that appear to be her most trusted advisors, of turning against her or betraying the cause without provocation. Stealthy and diplomatically savvy players could exploit the nativist second weakness by planting a spy in her camp and attempting to get the nativist to turn against her own followers. Directly attacking the nativist or her army, however, is ill-advised because of the devotion of her followers.
While Falling Crow’s meeting with the top seers and oracles and convincing them of the prophetic nature of her vision has become the stuff of legends, what few people know is that a number of seers and oracles disagreed with both Falling Crows vision and her interpretation of it. During the meeting, Falling Crow accepted this disagreement, but began systematically executing those that disagreed shortly afterward. She has been careful to hide her involvement in the deaths of these seers and oracles and the remaining seers and oracles have devoted themselves to the cause either out of actual belief or fear. If any of the seers and oracles that disagreed with Falling Crow could be found, they could perhaps damage her strong cult of personality by convincing powerful devotees to turn against Falling Crow despite whatever repercussions they would incur.

I believe you mean pasties. And pasties are actually kinda hot.

I think I see what the problem in Missouri is. The article spelled nudie club as nudy club. This shows a lack of appreciation for the art. As a resident of Atlanta ( easily in the top 5 for the number of Gentlemen's Clubs in the country ), we take this subject very seriously.

Well since I wont be going, Ill need Pictures!

Am I sensing an RPPR dragoncon "offsite" meeting in the works? Maybe we can move one of the arc dream midnite games.
Should we go with the hipster and world famous "Clermont Lounge" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clermont_Lounge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clermont_Lounge)? Or the bar made famous by Motley Crue, Tattletales? Or the high class ( and high priced ) downtown Cheetah?
This isn't even bringing in the Oasis or the Showbar family of adult themed entertaiment venues into the equation.
I guess I better do some research on the subject...
-
Just so you know Setherick under the section 'Casus Belli' you have written gorilla fighting rather than guerrilla.

*froths at the mouth a little*
So we can pass a bill to invest taxpayer money to enforce the reduction of a vice industry (which tends to be one of the things that is successful during tough economic times), but this is the same MO legislature that continues to bleed it's child and family services funding, including the elimination of the Family Reunification Services budget. Family Values indeed.

Also, delivered another 2K words to Ross for the Codex today, so we're developing a monster of a supplement for all you guys that are waiting patiently. I have another 5000-6000 to write this week, which will push my contribution up to 11-12,000 words alone. So we're talking about a 30,000 word supplement by the time we're done fellas. I hope you can find time to read it all.
-
I've started the layout and design process for the Codex, in addition to a few pieces of art. Not really much I can show off on the layout side (45 pages of text, anyone?) but this is the working logo/title I've put together for the book.
(http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DZlbvVly4yU/TBHZv63pibI/AAAAAAAAAiQ/z38U-DPxw-M/s640/CoW+Logo-02.jpg) (http://moodyillustrator.blogspot.com/2010/06/codex-of-war-logo.html)

That looks AMAZING. The only possible feedback I could have is that the "Compatible with 4E Dungeons and Dragons" font isn't quite as epic as the rest. By no means a problem, but I feel like there might be room for a slight improvement with a slightly different font. Though I have absolutely no suggestions or any real complaints about the current one...
-
I like it!
-
The weapons sticking out the side of the logo is pretty sweet.
-
The weapons sticking out the side of the logo is pretty sweet.
Thanks! I'm really feeling the weapons idea, but they definitely need some messing with before they're finished. Ross thinks they need to be bigger and fewer, I'm thinking they need to be thinner and more spread out. We'll see how it actually works in various sizes and iterations when I have a chance to mess with it this weekend.
If anyone is curious, the design is inspired by Pathfinder's excellent logotype (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DZlbvVly4yU/TBJZJBU0RhI/AAAAAAAAAic/2U3A9cPPlsQ/s320/PathfinderRPGLogo_500.jpg), Dragon Age's clever use of grunge texture (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DZlbvVly4yU/TBJZfYk4p0I/AAAAAAAAAio/qXjX74VNxlc/s320/wardens_quest_logo.png) and silhouette, and this awesome painting (http://www.jonfoster.com/#goto=illustration-1&viewimage=39) by Jon Foster, who is a badass art machine. Is there any interest in the process of concepting and designing the logo? I could post all my early ideas and variants that are currently hidden in an Illustrator file in another thread if anyone cares to see them.

I totally agree. I was trying for something that roughly matches the font used on official 4e books, but I think I will try some variants with more awesome font in that space. It's also slightly misaligned from where i wanted it, which I didn't notice on account of 3AM. Oops! :-[

There appears to be a faint white outline between the red letters "Codex of War" and the black background of the logo.
Am I just seeing things?
Also, do the words "Compatible with 4E Dungeons and Dragons" need to be a part of the logo, or could they just be featured prominently on the cover, but away from the logo itself? I personally think the logo looks good, and having that floating reminder so close just takes away from the logo's power.
-
I already emailed this to Ross and Ean, but my suggestion was to shrink the "Compatible with..." text and then center it under the logo. Right now, I think the text commands too much attention because it is as long as the logo itself.

Yes, you're seeing .jpg artifacts. I'll post a cleaner .gif version in the next update.

I don't believe they have to be part of the logo, but I wanted to address them at the same time and include them in a version for Ross to use online. (So people know what the book is for right away.) They'll likely be prominently featured on the cover in a way that visually separates them from the logo.

Yeah, I like that idea. Probably what will happen for the final version.

Yeah, it looks pretty sweet. ::)
Right now, I'm doing the final pass of layout tweaks, adding some legal mumbo jumbo, and finishing up a few character portraits. I plan to send it over to Ross in time for a midnight release. (I do, however, reserve the right to release it in someone else's time zone... >_> )
-
midnight? cool
-
I think at this point, we're talking Western time... but still midnight! :D
That counts, right?
-
Hopefully in the next 30 minutes or so. I want to get a glance at the Codex before I go night-night.
I think the New World Page (http://slangdesign.com/rppr/the-new-world-free-4e-dd-campaign-setting/) could be reorganized, perhaps with a list of all the AP episodes on a separate page. A separate page for the images would help as well.
but what do i know im just a man that makes icees ::::(

It does to those of us in the western time zone.

Well, it's 12:30 (hawaii time?) and the the Codex is exported and being sent off to Ross as I type. I think he may have gone to sleep, but as a preview I'll post the cover and a couple of pages here so you can see how the final product looks.
Spoiler tags because I'm posting big, juicy preview images.

It looks great. Enjoy your well earned rest! Ross can go back to sleep when it is posted.

Wow that looks great! I like how you have RPPR in the corrner good touch!

It's done. Ross is just getting it uploaded to the server and getting a page set up for it I guess.

The bookmarks on the PDF don't work, they're all set to go to the cover.
Also, a few things which should be in the ToC aren't (at least Im assuming they should be), only ones I saw were Jack Quicksilver in Adventurers, and The Dread Pirates in Fog of War.
Bookmarked version (http://www.4shared.com/document/h7gzUoTM/Codex_of_War__A_New_World_Camp.html)
- went through and did the bookmarks and the links in the ToC, havent tried putting in the other things into the ToC yet though cause editing text in acrobat is a bitch and I don't really know how yet lol.
-
Amazing job guys - thanks for giving the rest of us a chance to share in your story.
To be honest, I used to say that Eberron 'was 4th edition' just as Greyhawk 'was 2nd' ... but with the New World AP's (and the increasingly amazing) PDFs, I feel that TNW has become the campaign that I 'dream in' when penning characters or adventures.
I'd like to make a toast to all of the RPPR players: 'Thank You for the memories, both future and past. Cheers!'

I'll take care of the bookmarks and stuff. It's automatic through the InDesign file I used to put the thing together, must just be glitching or something. I'll post here when it's updated.

Just when I finished messing with illustrator to get those in there, oh well, I probably screwed it up by doing that anyway. It gained 5mb and all I did was put in 2 lines of text.
