Gencon is nigh!

How about Thursday night for the first official RPPR meetup?

Sounds good to me. :)

I will come up with some suggestions later, but all i have to say for now is....

hot damn.

You think that's cool? How about the fact that you can get a copy of him? :)

http://www.shapeways.com/model/139668/nyarlethotep_bloody_tongue___mini_version.html

Shapeways is a 3d printing company, so you can order a print of anything you can sculpt in a digital environment. I originally uploaded him so I could order a copy for myself, but I figured I'd share the link if anyone else wants to get a copy. $30 for a 3" tall version (I set it to have the lowest possible markup, so you're pretty much getting it at cost of printing) They aren't colored, but painting these things up is half the fun, right?

I also made a turnaround video since he's kinda hard to see in the pics above. This one doesn't have color, but it's the actual mesh that I sent to print. :)

So, I fixed the title of this thread rather than start another.

Postgame notes:

Cons:

  • It is really broken, they should fix that.
  • Rolling dice lacks drama or sound effects, feels kinda flat.
  • We could only get 2 players and the GM into the room before it refused to connect more people
  • Voice chat was flaky and people kept getting cut out, we eventually switched to skype
  • GM can't hide or lock things. Not a bit issue here but made stuff tricky
  • No way to edit sheets or track health/stats at the table
  • Can't see dice/chat while looking at character sheet, make rolling a pain
  • Character sheets are designed for DnD, no way to change ordering or layout to suit a different game, but we made do.
  • I feel my game was poorly paced. (Not Infrno's fault really, but I can blame them because it's my list)

Pros:

  • Map tool worked really nicely and updated quickly
  • Character sheets are convenient to read and look good, very fast to create
  • People seemed to get into it and have fun once things started working

So, overall, it's a good setup in theory, especially once they get all their bugs worked out and tweak the UI a little bit. The game board was actually incredibly useful and intuitive, and made game flow much smoother. Dice roller worked okay but lacked drama, seemed to be fair.

I highly recommend other people give it a try, but have skype set up ahead of time, and don't invite too many people.

Mckma, I am super sorry that we couldn't get you into game on account of the table not accepting more people. If you want to play in the revised, streamlined, sexier version of this scenario at Gencon, consider it done. :)

General Chaos / Cthulhu Mythos Sculpts
« on: July 24, 2010, 11:01:44 PM »
So, now that I'm free from the Codex I'm exploring some of the other projects that have been sitting in the back of my mind. One that has been engaging me for quite some time is creating some 3d printable models of Mythos beasties. There are no good minatures (that I've seen) for the CoC game, and I know some people find that pulling out a gigantic model to put on the table really helps to give people a sense of scale.

So yeah, this is the Bloody Tongue Nyarlethotep I cranked out today. I'm working on getting him printable and uploading him to Shapeways, we'll see how that goes over the next few hours.

Any suggestions for other Mythos beings that could use a 3d treatment? My thoughts immediately turn to Dark Young and Shoggoths.

Haven't checked yet.
Rolling 1d10+4: Total = 9

1d10+4? So he's a warrior with a an 18 Con? You better be careful, his BaB is probably higher than yours already Seth.

Will there be a .pdf only purchase option as with MAOCT core book? The additional shipping for a physical product to the UK and the bending over I'll get from customs more than doubles the cost of the book for me, at no benefit to Ross nor Arc :(

I believe the product you're asking about is here. I got my digital copy already and am quite pleased with it. :)

I love the postcards. I'll buy it.

Why thank you. I did the Area 51 and Pastoral Manor cards, Violet (aazuredragon on the forums) did the Eternal Glades and Sucrose Park cards. Super fun project.

We're not playing with webcams, right? I don't know if I can game if I have to look at gamers during the whole thing.

We don't need to. I was just planning to use my mic. :)

What puzzles me a little is the apparent lack of grid abilities...

It's apparently already been requested and is being put into production. I wouldn't be surprised if it was up and running soon....

Only the rocks are ROBOTS. And the robots are YOU. Welcome to Eclipse Phase.

Where did the game go? Could my guy be a private dick rather than a cop? Fire/quit/whatever from the force, most likely for head knocking or enforcing the laws as he saw them rather than by the book.

Sure, he can be that instead. Comes with less authority but more freedom, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

As for the game... it's still there? The best way to find it is to find my name in your friends list, and find the game under my profile. (A little awkward...) You've been approved for the "Loose Cannon Cop" character, apparently you still need to "accept" that approval. You'll be able to make tweaks to gear and background and such after you do that.

Link to the game in question: http://infrno.net/games/78

Feel free to "play game" if you want to duck your head into the table system and configure your mic and such. You can move stuff around, but I'll ask you not to mess with the map area or the "Secret GM's box".

Also, if anyone hasn't had a chance to get into this game but wants to see how it goes, I've enabled spectators at this game table. Feel free to peek in. Game is at 7pm EST this sunday.

I have to say, one thing that impresses me about this system is how responsive the support is. One of the programmers/designers found a discussion between me and Tadanori, and added a feature to the game in less than 24 hours as a result.

That's right, the ability to make a template "clone-able" by other people is a direct result of our game. :)

Also, they're now working on the ability to start a game where nobody has a character assigned yet, then make characters "at the table". I suggested it to the same designer, and he agrees that it would be a huge asset and a natural way for most people to create characters.

58
There was the IT and Medicine guy, couldn't really tell if one or the other was more intended for me so I requested both.  I don't have a huge preference for one or the other (though at the moment I think I have a slight preference for the medic), or I could take another character if you want...

The medic was requested by Violet, the IT guy was the one I was intending for you. Everything look good? (Anything you had in mind that I missed?)

My two highest skills (both 7 dice): Computer Programing and Lying. I think I'm going to like this character.

I thought you would like that. It is also worth noting that "Computer Programming" is the "Search through a computer really really fast using regular expressions or some shit" skill.

Rough and tumble, Adventurer, Tarzan type please.

I made you a loose cannon cop on the edge. A beast raised by the city herself, and now tasked to protect it. Mickey Burch is his name.

59
Starting to make pregens. I'm "revoking" approval of your generic template characters once I get your pregen ready. It should be obvious which one is intended for whom, but if it isn't check the comments on each pregen character.

Rough and tumble, Adventurer, Tarzan type please.

Nice, Tad.

Yeah, probably not going to work for this one. It's a detective-y story set in modern Boston. Any other requests?
