We are moving back to the alternating campaign schedule next semester. I want to run a game, but unless something changes in the near future, I'm not leaning towards anything in particular. What do people want to hear? So far, I've got ideas for...
1. Better Angels
2. Zombie Game (using FATE or Gumshoe)
3. Night's Black Agents
I'd accept suggestions for other stuff. Just don't suggest anything by Palladium; I'll hunt you down >:(
-
I'd be really intrigued to hear your take on MaOCT, but other than that Night's Black Agents and Better Angels sounds rad.
-
I haven't read Nights Black Agents yet, but I'm told it's like Jason Bourne but with vampires. So probably run that. Show people vampires can still be cool.
Disclaimer: Vampires will probably never be cool.
-
Better Angels. Please, please, PLEASE run Better Angels.
-
I would second Monsters and Other Childish things. I think you could do some really awesome stuff with it (regular or creepy keds).
Or maybe Mage the Awakening or Changeling the Lost. Wandering around in the Hedge could be as crazy as an EP simalspace.
-
Ooh, Unknown Armies; haven't you always wanted to play in a game where a guy gains magical power by drinking booze out of JFK's coffee mug?
Monsters and Other Childish Things is always a great choice, though; Candlewick is possibly the easiest game on the planet to run.
-
I fourth MaOCT! Also if this is the zombie game Ross mentioned on the Zombie panel at Gencon, That also sounds awesome.
or how about a Little Fears game?
-
I would also love to see what you would do with MaOCT. If you'er not into that, I've also wanted to listen to an RPPR CoC campaign. With the way you've already handled the subject and system I'm sure it would be awesome. If you don't like those options I think Nights Black Agent is the most interesting system of the three you've suggested.
-
Nights black agents is my vote, but if you wanted to stick syfy, I allways wanted to hear you guys play rouge trader, deathwatch, chaos one what ever its called. But the guys I assume are comming down from the syfy stuff.
-
Apocalypse World (http://apocalypse-world.com/ ).
It's a low math, long term gameplay, narrative game.
I think it would fit your stile.
EDIT: link and review here http://www.flamesrising.com/apocalypse-world-rpg-review/
If only the three on the list are acceptable then my vote goes to Better Angels.
-
Better Angels
NBA sounds kind of like Firewall so that's more trodden ground, but I'd love to see how BA plays out. And to see Aaron be a bad guy.
Or... ParanoiaXP.
-
Much as I fucking hate vampires (seriously, they are my space whales) Night's Black Agents as Jason Bourne plus vampires does interest me the most, as Know Evil already plays with a lot of the themes of political intrigue and spycraft, only IN SPAAAAAAACE, I think that would be a natural progression. Play to your strengths, as they always say.
-
I would love to see your take on the World of Darkness universe, run with either Mage or Hunter. I think those are the most feasible and story ready supplements. It would be fun to see how creative the players could get with the Mage powers and how creative you could be to stump/challenge them. All the different factions or Hunter could be very interesting, especially using a modified rep system from Eclipse Phase.
Also, is it possible to make a legitimate campaign in "A Dirty World"? Because, that could be really cool as well.
-
Oh gosh, I second Unknown Armies! Who wouldn't want to play a game where you can play as something called "the Mystic Hermaphrodite"?
And I'd be interested in the zombie game. Show everyone that the post-apocalypse can still be interesting.

A legit Dirty World campaign is sounding really cool.

Night's Black Agents is an amazing game. I'm running one of my own right now and I can not recommend it enough. So I vote for that.
-
Better Angels! I'd love to see the RPPR crew try their hands at over-the-top villainy.
If not, then maybe MaOCT. I'm just burnt out on the vampire stuff, and the zombie stuff wasn't that appealing to me in the first place.

Caleb running Better Angels will be more grimdark than any vampire or zombie game.

Ohhh yes. ;D It will be amazing.

well if were going that route can we finally get a world of synabair game!
-
Not that I doubt Caleb at all, but just from reading stuff on the Kickstarter, I got the impression that Better Angels was very toungue-in-cheek. Did I completely misunderstand the tone of the game?
-
Have you listened to the games Caleb has run? Anything you give him will turn a noir shade of grimdark.
That said, if a legit Dirty World campagin can happen it'd be pretty incredable.
-
I, too, would like to clamor for Monsters and Other Childish Things.
-
Oh, I know, I don't doubt Caleb's ability to turn any game into what he wants it to be, but I was just surprised that he was thinking about Better Angels, based on the tone of it that I perceived without having read the book or .pdf.
Also, Caleb if you were thinking about Zombies, and wanted a twist, you could check out Unhallowed Metropolis. It's a zombie game set in Victorian Steampunk England. It's gotten great reviews. You might have just thrown up a little at that suggestion, and if so, please just ignore it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0981679285/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1/187-1419341-8983966?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_r=1MRF8TV0VF7GQ8X8WJ1Y&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_i=0971064296 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0981679285/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1/187-1419341-8983966?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_r=1MRF8TV0VF7GQ8X8WJ1Y&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_i=0971064296)
A Dirty World campaign would be tons of fun in my opinion(though I don't have the book so I don't even know if the rules have character advancement) but I also think that Night's Black Agents sounds like a great game and setting.
-

A little. To me the game sounds like dark humor. You have powers but they come from something evil. Not cartoonish evil but honestly from fucking Hell with a captial "H" evil. And you have to keep it from getting out of you and into someone who would use those powers like the demon wants.
That kind of thing can drive someone insane. Or make you actually evil.

This inevitably leads me to suggest Kill Puppies for Satan. If only to see how Caleb and the gang handle a true evil game, and if Aaron is involved, see how his morals and heroic nature hold up.

I think the process is a bit backward here. Why decide on a system before deciding on the type of game the group wants to play?
-
I'd really want to see Caleb running a medieval low-fantasy horror campaign in the Shadows of Esteren setting.
The author has posted before in these forums about the product and RPPR played a game run in Gencon by one of the translators (even if the actual recording was very hard to listen to because of the background music).
The setting itself looks fascinating as well, and every review I've read praises it immensely. It's definitely on my wishlist for future books to pick up.
-
Every time I read that 'Shadows of Esteren' my Tourette's sight reads it as 'Shadows of Estrogen'...must be a new game by Ray Winninger...
-
After listening to Aarons last Monsters game (Junkyard on the Edge of Forever), I am now curious more than ever as to Calebs take on Monsters. My guess, it would involve Noir.
-
If we're going Grimdark with Monsters and Other Childish Things, the kids should all be angsty outcast teenagers.
-
That reminds me of the Monster ISS games by the Drunk and the Ugly gang. XD
(Just starting to listen to those sessions).
-
Nah, if they go Grimdark with Monsters and Other Childish Things, it should be a bunch of eight-year-olds in broken homes.
"Billy's never been to school because his dad forces him to watch the still during the day."
"Meryl has to fight for pillow space from the whores who've made their money for the night."
"Andrew is rich, but he's a hobo now."
Aaron would play Meryl, of course.
-
Caleb got the complete rules for Better Angels so we will be playing that next.
-
Aaron would play Meryl, of course.

Awwww, stupid Better Angels. :'(
-
Based on the Cthulhu game of the Base Raiders Preview APs, I would like to see a little fears game done by Caleb. That first bit was the Creepiest and awesome part to me.
-
Necroing this thread to ask if Better Angels has been played yet and if so, how it went.
-
We're working on it. I have the book and the first pregen scenario. Iron Heroes is taking longer than expected and we have a semester game night change coming up (always a schedule nightmare), but it is next on the block after that.
-
I feel this picture is relevant to an upcoming game in the New Arcadia campaign that Caleb ran
(http://i.imgur.com/WQVW8.png)
-
Oh man, I've been waiting for this one since I'd heard about it. Unless it's more directly related to Skyrim than I'm thinking.
-
found a look for my demonic form in better angels

I thought your character was Burmese? His demonic form is Judeo-Christian?
-
There are Catholics EVERYWHERE
everywhere
-
Its true, the Catholic Church had establishments in Thailand when I was there, Why not Burma?
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Catholicism_in_Burma
450,000, 1% of the total population.
Who knew?
-
Do you guys not know how Catholics work
A thousand years from now, after we've perfected FTL space travel and have roamed the galaxy, we'll find a M class planet with intelligent, sapient life and everyone will be super excited and we'll touch down on the planet and do you know what we'll find? All the aliens are at the local Catholic church eating space mackerel on Good Friday and a missionary will have been there for 50 years and he speaks the language and saved all their goddamn souls for Jesus because THAT IS WHAT THEY DO and then they eat pancakes
-
This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bene_Gesserit#Missionaria_Protectiva) is probably what they're aiming for.
Convert the locals, loot their valuables, remit all tithes to the Vatican.
-
I think that this Better Angels shall be fun. Though I would prefer to see the madness of a monsters game from Calebs eyes.
The MIB bursts in and guns down the kids and leaves... End Game
Aaron is crying
Tom is giddy with the fact of guns
Ross is vaguely confused and trying to figure out some cheap shot he can throw into his next game. I love you Ross but its true
-
So I really liked the beginning of Caleb's "Preemptive Revenge" game (as stated elsewhere on the forums) and decided to run a game for my buddies set in our Call of Cthulhu D20 1920s game that takes place after the events at the church. The game is more or less inspired by the events of the Pendelton incident and while it does share some names and description of those events, I then go and take it in to the realm of my own little universe for my investigators to follow up on. sufficed to say, the title for the session is "Death comes to Edenvale". Don't want to give a whole lot away as I did record the game and want post it somewhere once I edit it together, but my group really enjoyed it and genuinely got surprised by the stuff that happen in the game. It went on for two sessions over two nights.
Just wanted to say thank you Caleb for the inspiration. And a big thanks to RPPR for gaming advice from the podcasts, as a newer GM it has been a great help.
-
Awww...Thanks dude. I'm glad it went well. :D
-
Don't know if it's a little late to throw in my vote, but I'd really like to hear an actual play of Night's Black Agents. That game looks rather badass. It also gives me faith in vampires as cool monsters again which is a good thing. Of course, lame vampires might actually work well in it too. Would love to hear a game where agents have to assassinate the Twilight vampires and werewolves. preferably in the most brutal manner possible:)
I'd also have to vote for an Unknown Armies game, or Over the Edge, or both. Don't know many games that can beat those two as far as occult and general weirdness go. Would be interested in hearing an AP of Apocalypse World too. I've heard good things.
And there's my vote(s).

Well you'll be happy to know that we are currently running a NBA game. Hopefully it should be done a posted sometime in the near future (2099 to be precise).
-
Very cool! Looking forward to giving it a listen. 2099? Maybe the singularity would have occurred by then and I'll be listening to it sleeved into some ultra awesome yet fucked up looking morph! Can't wait!
-
I'm running it BTW and I have sped up the release cycle for RPPR AP - 6 episodes a month now. JEEEZ
-
Has there been any new developements with the All Flesh Must Be Eaten game Caleb wanted to run? How about the Call of Cthulhu Wages of Sin game?
