: Arje July 25, 2010, 01:12:31 AM
I will be running a skype game for interested players Monday night at 7pm CST. It might be a regular thing.

Game is Mutants & Masterminds.

PL 7 105pps.

Characters are somewhere between high school age, and young adults(grad students). These people have been selected for a special "internship" with a multinational corporation. Feel free to individualize why you were selected for the internship. Some players might be marketing interns and some might be business interns, etc. (these are examples. Be creative. It's a Laaaaarge multinational)

At max, you may spend 90pps. At least, you may spend 50pps before hand. No powers, as they will be provided you early in the session.  Please try to have your character ready beforehand. The earlier you PM me your character sheet, the more prepared and detailed your powers will be.

Please use my M&M template, and total all your power points before hand.

Please also have a paragraph or two of backstory, and any vital statistics.

Looking for 4-6 players, but I will take more if the concept is good enough. I know this is short notice, if people are having trouble, i will be available all day tomorrow.

My gmail is rayejaye@gmail.com. Email or PM me with questions.

It's 2010 in a world nearly identical to the real one. No super powers, and no real super science to speak of. Veritas Pharmaceuticals, part of the Dreyland-Magnus portfolio, (Dreyland-Magnus is a Fortune 10 holding company and multinational investment firm) is hiring. Stock options, Health, Dental, 3 weeks paid vacation, and 120,000 dollar salary out of the gate. They have two dozen of these "internships", and as you can imagine in this rundown economy, the competition  is fierce. They've received tens of thousands of applicants, because their application was vague, unspecified, and mentioned specifically that they would "Seriously entertain all inquiries. No medical experience necessary. Applicants from all fields and levels of experience needed." It seems too good to be true, but the last time they did this was in the late 80's, and those interns went on to become titans of industry, CEO's and celebrities. They all credit Veritas with their success.

You have been selected. The job offered seems tailor made to your skills and interests.

Definitely interested, just let me think up a character and I'll get back to you on Steam.

to be clear, the M&M template I would like you to use is in the Resources and Templates section of the forums.

We have two so far, someone contacted me by email.

So if you were waiting, come dip your toes in! 1 more and I can just add an NPC character for an even 4.

But i'd like 4-6 players.

....Its uhhh....a thankyou, yes, a thankyou to the Codex of War contributers.

I wasn't originally going to do this because I have done too much RPG and other stuff lately, but it appears that the Infrno game that Ean is running won't allow all players, so if I end up passing on that, I will check on joining up with you tomorrow.  I'll know by later this evening.  I don't suppose there would be any way to push it back a bit or be able to show up late (7:30-8:00 your time would be a great deal easier for me to make)?  I don't want to inconvenience you, but it would help me be able to make it (assuming I end up being able to that is), but if not, I'm cool.

That would be fine. I can work it into the story.

This is what I have.

Growing up, Harrison Bailey had always lived a sheltered, stable life with his parents Jonathan, and Laura Bailey. Early in his life, Harrison developed a fascination with buildings and their structure, admiring how every piece was designed particularly for a specific goal in mind and never straying from it's purpose, this blueprint ideal translated to Harrison's philosophy, and outlook on life.
Harrison was home schooled until the age of 18, where he scored exceptionally well on his college entrance exams and was accepted by Cornell University for an undergraduate degree in architecture. Pursuing his life goal was easy for Harrison, absorbing himself in his studies and ignoring the outside world was even easier for him.
Recently  Harrison's family life has become destabilized, his parents fight more often causing stress, and confusion to the young man. Harrison understands that husband and wife are supposed to be a cohesive team, a loving pair, he does not understand the concept of lovers quarrels, that is not in the intended purpose of having a spouse so it should not exist.
Thankfully, Harrison has garnered a work placement in a very successful company, hoping this will take his mind off his troubles at home.

Trying to keep it simple, and I still suck at writing.

Little Joey got into fights.  Quite often.  His parents were incredibly concerned about this tendency and spent a small fortune on one of the best child psychologists in New York.  Joey was mentally reconditioned to turn this energy into a competitive tendency that tended to be compulsive.  As he got older, his parents directed him to wrestling and an eclectic sampling of martial arts.  He won match after match and took first place in state contests all four years of high school.

After high school, Joey was accepted to Columbia for a wrestling scholarship.  Always concerned that "Little" Joey would regress to his more violent tendencies, Mama Girabaldi kept close tabs on her son while he was away from home, even going so far as to influence his academic curriculum to major in Human Rights, hoping that her son would find a cause to fight for as opposed to a person to fight against.

As he ended his college career, Joey came to a sudden realization:  Not everyone is willing to fight, but they are willing to pay people to fight on their behalf.  He spent the summer before his senior year as working for a Security firm, and was assigned as part of a backup security detail for one of the firm's VIPs.  Joey happened to be at the right place and the right time and took out a would-be attacker before any of the veteran guards even noticed.  After that, Joey secured a big enough reference to land any job he could ever want.

Aww, If only I had seen this earlier I would have been all over this.

Although I don't know the system...

or how to make a character...

or have any of the books...

BUT if it weren't for those three things, I would have been totally up for it.  Have fun, though.

Derik  Johansen

Derik grew up in a densely populated urban city, where city officials made sure to line their pockets with the community’s money while the taxpayers lived in squalor.  His home was situated in a neighborhood between three rivaling gangs, with drug dealers slinging dope on every other corner.  The sound of gunfire or people screaming no longer made him jump - it made him angry.   After years of watching his friends fall into drugs, prostitution, or outright killed from the game, it occurred to Derik that the system wasn’t working.  The police couldn’t save him, and listening to the politicians and pastors only filled him with a sense of dread.  With no one else to turn to for help, he decided to become the person to fix his neighborhood.

By tapping a resource, which social workers and law enforcement rarely had access, Derik began to see a change in his neighborhood.  He knew the dealers, he knew their families, and he knew what they needed.  He spoke with the girlfriends, the boyfriends, the mothers, the fathers, the sons, and the daughters.  He found ways to help them find a different source of revenue other than hitting the streets.  He even formed his own non-profit business that assisted in providing food for the impoverished.  During this time, he knew that his neighborhood was only a small piece of the large puzzle.  He majored in business, hoping to break the system from the inside.

If there’s a rally or riot, Derik’s going to be there.  His trademark photo with a red bandana covering the lower part of his face always making it on the news.

Skype game was something on an intro game. But it was a success. It looks like we are going to play the same characters and continue the story on thursday, possibly making this a regular thing. There is room for another player or two.

I'll be adding the characters powers and posting a link to the recording sometime later tonight. Off to the gym.

RJ, please let me sign up for this.  I'll have a character by tomorrow regardless (I should brush up on my M&M anyway).

EDIT: I made a character.

RJ PLEASE MAKE HIM NOT RETARDED I AM NOT GOOD WITH NUMBERS

Jefferson grew up in a normal suburb with normal parents in the middle of Mediocrity, America.  Boring.  School was a breeze; he never had to take any tests, he'd just bullshit his way out of them and impress the teachers so much with his "knowledge" they gave him near perfect marks.  About the only reason he even went was the joy he gained from being student council president and, eventually, practically running the school district (kids still thank him for helping to get rid of those godawful school uniforms).  As soon as he was at university, he quickly worked his way up the ladder of his local fraternity chapter (to more than a few people's resentment), which in turn gave this business major first grab at the Veritas Industries internship slot reserved only for such distinguished fraternity brothers as himself.  As an (to put it nicely) ambitious young man, it only makes sense to take this stepping stone.

I can probably make Thursdays if you are willing to take me (I know that would bump you to 5?).  I would probably make a physicist if that fits in (it would almost let me live a little vicariously through my character :P).  I'm about halfway through the recording and I'll roll up a character this afternoon if you have an extra spot...

Backstory goes just up the internship.

Jonathan (John) Andrews

John constantly feels that if he can get "just that one last piece," he will be able to make the next big discovery.  Unfortunately, this "last piece" is often along the lines of an MRI machine to take apart at best, or unfettered access to the LHC at worst.  A packrat in every sense of the word, he keeps anything that "might be useful."  Fascinated with everything and how it all works, he continuousely seeks knowledge and understanding.  As a young child growing up in a Californian suburb, he quickly grew bored with the monotony of suburban life and discovered video games as an interesting escape.  He has since developed this into an absurd habit, trying to play almost every game, "just to see it."  Incredibly intelligent, but somewhat lazy, he decided not to speed through schooling, instead using his free time to learn other "more interesting" things, or to take additional classes.  He spends his spare time in three activities, reading/learning, playing video games, or tinkering and building devices.  Though he is mainly interested in physics and the possibilities of "sci-fi" technology, he figured that working for one of the worlds leading firms, regardless of the fact it was mainly medicine, would allow him access to technology to pursue research in physics on the side.  He values knowledge and in many ways hoards it, believing it to be the most valuable commodity on the planet.  When applying for the internship, he carefully looked at any clauses that gave up intellectual or research property, already beginning to plan around those so that he wouldn't have to give up any discoveries.  When it comes to any fights, he prefers to fight with his mind, not his body, dodging and weaving, either to tire out the opponent or eventually use the environment or opponent against themselves.

Are we going to try and do a session this week?  I can't do Tuesday as I have other commitments, and Friday through the weekend is less likely as I'll be in a hotel (plus I think Alex works?).  Anyway, just wanted to check so I can set up plans for another game this week.

I'm cool with any day as long as it's in the evenings.

Nest Tuesday or Next Thursday.

Get your votes in. This kind of game can be run without absolutely everyone, as much as it pains me to say, so we can run some people some of the time, and hope the others get in other games. It would be nice ivf we had everyone.

I'm moving back in with my parents for a couple/few months starting next tuesday, so I'd prefer thursday if it's not too inconvenient.  If it is, I can just make sure my computer is the first thing to come with me :).

Thursday works a bit better as I have a game planned for Tuesday (though I might drop out of that for this or encourage a rescheduling)...

I hope so!  I'm officially moved in and have a sweet new setup with a new desk and my hdtv as the second monitor :D

Second monitors are pretty much the greatest thing ever.  I never would have guessed that it would be so awesome when I got mine for my laptop, but it is so amazing just to have that extra space, and be able to watch stuff on the one while using the other to do work and whatnot...

Apparently trips to OKC only happen when I have plans >:(. Thanks parents. Plus I just broke up with my girlfriend of 2 years last night, so my heart wouldn't be in it.

Oh shoot, did you miss the memo?  We've been playing Thursdays (except last week), and will be playing on Wednesdays from here on out at 7 CST...

I did miss the memo. This upsets me.

I'm working 5 nights a week, and am off thursday and friday. WHY WEDNESDAYSSSS NOOOOOOOOO.  I'll get over it.

This is actually great news as I was conflicted because I really wanted to make it, but knew that I probably shouldn't (since I have to do things like cook, eat, and work)...

RJ's living the "high" life?

Ohohohohoh

It's funny because he's in California.

I amuse myself so.

is it still going on Wednesdays? My schedule is changing week after next and will have Wednesdays and Thursdays off.
: Re: Vox Ut Verum (Skype game)
: Mckma October 18, 2010, 02:06:15 AM
If it is Wednesdays, I can probably make half to three-quarters of the games.  I'm working in a school until 3:30, then need to bus home so I don't get back until about 4:30, and then if I'm cooking, it's a little tough to make 5.  That said, can't really do any other night of the week as my schedule somehow went from open and easy to filled and somewhat complex...

So I know we said we needed to talk about this, I don't know if people did, and I know I got busier than I expected last quarter...

That said, I have no expectations, but would be pretty happy if we somehow found some way to maybe get this going again.  But yeah, if not, that's cool too I know that there's life and stuff which does that weird thing with "secondary" things like gaming...

Brought this up while listening, not sure if this was what you were referring to at the end...
