Last weekend I met up with some old friends of mine for lunch. We talked for a bit about the "good old days," what was going on with each of us now... you know, the usual bull.
I waited until the conversation met a lull, went deadpan, took out 4 d20's and said "ROLL FOR INITIATIVE."
I stayed completely straight-faced, waited for their laughing to die down a bit and said "NO REALLY, ROLL FOR INITIATIVE."
Everyone scrambled for a d20, and for the next couple of hours in the coffee shop we gleefully engaged in the most gonzo power fantasy of our own invention, including highlights like flying tanks, sexually abused dolphins, marmot-infested waters, Dirty Sanchez monsters, and much much more.
Has anyone else done something like this?

Reminds me of what I did for D&D back before I had books to learn how to play. I, the DM, had a d20 and everybody made everything up. Occationally, I would roll the d20.

Im pretty sure I have a movie somewhere with all that in it!

No but I should. Sounds awesome.

Back when I first started playing D&D I'd carry my dice set (my first ever dice set) in my inside coat pocket like it was a gun. Any chance I had, I would pull out one of the stranger dice, like a d20 or d12 and either turn it around in my fingers or casually roll it infront of me.
I've been considering doing so again to fish for new players.

that almost sounds creepy. haha, i think if i saw a man rolling a random dice in a coffe shop in a trench coat im pretty sure i would go to a diffrent coffe shop.

Yeah I keep dice in my "manbag" (really it is a purse but don't tell anyone), anyhow whenever i end up needing change my hand just grabs a handful of crap that coats the purse bottom and I come up with some polyhedrals, and a couple quarters, a toothpick etc.
I haven't found any players this way- just identified which 7-11 clerks know what DnD is. :P

my aunts husban has a man purse, he calls it a murse.

That's the classiest thing I've ever heard.
