Well, first off, can anyone other than Ross guess what this is? (It has to do with RPPR)
http://www.mazegraphics.com/flash/ot13.swf
Arrows to move, Space to shoot. Click on it if it doesn't work at first.

Is it time to TRAIL HARDER?!?!

Haha, hilarious!
The swastika wagons are awesome.
-
Why thank you. Anyway, I am planning to do Oregon Trail 13 as a flash game gradually. I don't have that much time to spend on a project that is completely devoid of profit so it might take a while.
I was wondering, first off, what are the kind of enemies you'd like to see in such a game?
-
Communist bison. Need a good reason to take them all out, right?
-
I want some nose picking action!
-
Actually, there will be a scene where you fight nose goblins using your index within your nasal cavity. Besides that, it's kinda hard to implement without it being incredibly lame.
Communist bison it will be.
-
Things I is thinkin'a gon' be in'a game? Wa-hoo, I'm a game design'a!

Of course it would be lame and that is what would make it great!
-
ZOMBIE BUFFALO ARGLE BBARGLE
-
ZOMBIE BUFFALO ARGLE BBARGLE
I figure that'll logically follow killing all the commie ones.
-
Can you trick out your cart with rims and nitrous?
-
That's the plan. You can't really see the rims when you're playing but I want the speed to be a part of the gameplay.
-
Will the player be able to get vorpal gangrene or dragon syphillis?
-
Probably not. The closest to it would be a power-down that if you hit, slows you down. Unless I can figure something good.
-
How cool would it be if this game had elements of Spy Hunter in it? Another larger wagon appears in front of you and you get missles!
-
That would be cool. I'll see what I can do. I'm working on the shooting mechanics right now.
Other than that:
That communist enough?

Wow, that is one really communist buffalo. Their leaders should have big old Marx beards.
You are an impressive individual, Maze.

Thanks... I think?
Not having any buffalos around this 'ere Montreal city, I had to look them up on google. The breeds look quite different. I specifically decided to take this guy as a model:
Look at him; plotting, scheming, conspiring. That motherfucker is up to NO good.
-
It is indeed. They are a sneaky bunch. Which is why I feel kind of bad about say this: You've got the wrong animal there. That's a Cape Buffalo, from Africa.
The "buffalo" of the American west is the American Bison (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:American_bison_k5680-1.jpg). It's a whole seperate species that's known for having a vastly thicker coat than buffalo and for having smaller horns. That's why I thought the beards would be funny.
-
Son of a... Haha. Well, what can I say, Africa's got way cooler buffaloes. Anyway, it's just a concept design so it doesn't really matter I've got the wrong buffalo since this picture has no use and won't look like the little running buffaloes I'll be using in the actual game. But it's good to know the American buffaloes have pussy horns instead of the vorpal horns of devastating doom +5 the cape buffaloes have.
-
Indeed. Bison horns actually look alot like ears if you don't know what your looking for.
I only point it out because, obviosusly, historically correct content will be vitally important to the game.
-
Yeah, especially since you'll be seeing Lee Harvey Oswald lead a team of skilled ninjas only to get roundhouse kicked in the face by Abe himself.
Historical inaccuracies is what I'm all about.
In the video game Call of Chtulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, you see Hoover, the former FBI director and international douche and have to rescue him from falling into a pit of molten gold. You get the game over screen if you let him die and on some forums some people complained about not being able to let him die. The rebuttal was, of course, "Don't you realize he's an HISTORICAL figure?." And my argument for it is: who gives a shit about historical accuracies in a game where you shoot Dagon with a cannon and fuck up mother Hydra.
-
Ah, that was a fun game.
I've considered designing a game that really showed off the "freedom" of choice. Something like a Call of Duty game but on the Axis side where the player would likely not want to do whatever the mission was. Give them the option of denying their orders, if they wanted to, and have them face a historically accurate responce.
Heck, could do the same thing for, say, a British soldier in a World War One game.
Or, you know, any soldier.
But I'm getting off topic, back to the Marxist Bisons.
-
to rescue him from falling into a pit of molten gold
You should save him because he hasn't earned such an epic death.

Q: What happens when a former president turns evil?

A: Shit gets real.

VAN BUREN!!! (http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/2056/emotargh.gif)

Martin Van Buren is but a single shard, a mere fragment, one glittering reflection of the true might of Coddowalshagoth!
By the way, awesome emot there Ross.

Coddowalshagoth? Where have I heard this from? I know it's from a podcast but I don't recall anything else.
Anyway, I'm planning to have Seth Soulsunder McProtagonist fight a big villiain and his henchmen with a cast of allies. So far I've got:
Good guys:
-Seth
-John Stranger : A mysterious cowboy with a mysterious past seeking a mysterious goal.
-Louis Pasteur : The man with the mission to destroy the undead.
Bad guys:
-Main Villain : Don't ask. You'll see.
-Nose Goblin King : summons nose goblins.
-Van Buren : Former president with electricity powers
-Lee Harvey Oswald : Master Ninja
-Some fat guy who starves people and throws cannibals at you: I forgot his name and other shit about him.
I need ideas for good guys and evil henchmen.
-
That sounds fucking hilarious.
And Coddowalshagoth is the name of the Great Old One that our cult worships. Check the Cody Fan Club thread in the Podcast sub-forum.
-
Don't forget that Martin Van Buren can also turn himself into liquid.
My students at school actually requested for me to do my MVB impression. It is classic.
-
And Van Buren only turned evil because his dad was an abusive alcoholic who sexually molested him. It gives the character more pathos.
-
Didn't he have portal abilities too?
-
Hell yeah! He was a dimensional door due to his exposure to the Dark Tower (which he found in Flagstaff, AZ).
-
OK, so bad guys.
The Communist Bison could be lead by Buffalo Stalin, Wild Bill Khrushchev, etc.
Is Hiram (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=05132003) the Blacksmith (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=05142003) going to be there (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=05162003)?

ahahahha yesss those are some of my favorite achewood strips and I never thought to put them in OT13. DO IT MAZE DO IT

errr... don't we have to ask permission? How do I even integrate it in a shooter game?

just make it a cameo - Hiram asks you weird questions during hte loading screen or something
-
I kinda picture him like this:
Yeah yeah, I know, I have no knowledge of the human anatomy. It's kinda hard drawing with a tablet when you haven't drawn for over 3 years. :(
-
Chest hair, good.
Shirtless with leather apron, FANTASTIC.
I'm not sure about the mustache, but I'm sure it'd grow on me. So to speak. Overall, I do like him.
Also I have a hard time offering advice because if I'd drawn him he'd be a stick figure holding a horseshoe, or possibly a hammer, and standing near an anvil (to denote his smithy profession).
-
It's just a quick doodle, the final version if I have any will look nothing like it.
Harim is bisexual and very persuasive.
-
Hiram asks you weird questions during the loading screen or something
Hiram wonders if you've had vorpal gangrene.
