Hey all - quick question here:
Has anyone out there experimented with using the right system, but for the "wrong" reasons? Perhaps you have an aversion to quickly produced marketing schlop, or you love the mechanics, but would prefer a different flavor of fluff.
(for the sake of argument - lets just forget about GURPS/FUDGE/WUSHU for 5 minutes.)
Examples:
1—Call of Cthulu used to simulate a Wild West era campaign (inspired by Deadlands) just without the elder horrors.
2—CoC used to simulate a WWII squad mission (think Saving Private Ryan or Inglorous Bastards) ... SAN is still used, but rather than cosmic horror - it's the mental strain of war.
3—Star Wars (d6 or d20) modded for Star Trek (Abrams-verse) or Serenity (Whedon-verse) purposes.
Thoughts?

Basically the BRP system is already written as a universal system. I'll get a copy sooner or later.

BRP is my favorite system. I don't know why, it's just so uncomplicated and straight forward. And there's so many relatively cheap monographs out there.

Your mom wishes she was a relatively cheap monograph...
Hmmm... That was much worse than I had thought it would be...

Here's a link to the Chaosium website where you can download a free Quick Start version of the BRP rules. Very handy! http://catalog.chaosium.com/product_info.php?products_id=3700 (http://catalog.chaosium.com/product_info.php?products_id=3700)
