: I dropped my cell phone in the toilet.
: ThnJonWasAZmbie April 29, 2010, 09:07:24 PM
So I then proceeded to use my knowledge of electronics by taking the cellphone and stabbing the screen multiple times with a screwdriver.  Was this the best course of action, or are there more effective means of repairing a wet cellphone?

Put it in a bowl of uncooked rice, you got a 50/50 shot it might work.

Open it as much as possible (take out battery, cards, whatever) and let it dry.  Rice apparently really pulls out the water, but if it was on when you dropped it, your chances aren't as good as if it was off.  Make sure you dry it as much as possible before trying to turn it on...

Yeah I tried all that stuff, but it was turned on when it happened.  I got a new phone yesterday though.

Do not microwave it!

Take out battery and let it dry out. Mine went into the pool with me one summer for a good 10 minutes. I took it out and let it dry overnight. Put the batt back in and it worked though the LCD was foggy. I took it to work (Electrical Engineering type place) and had them bake it for 20 minutes in the low temp testing oven. Good as new.

I was hoping that my sarcasm was understood about the microwave.  8)

Still, doing the microwave bit would make a good youtube video  ;D.  In any case, another good solution is the silicate packets you get with certain merchandise (shoes, electronics, etc).  If you have enough packets, they do a good job of absorbing any moisture from the phone. By the way, what type of phone is it?

I may put the remaining pieces of my old phone in the microwave just for posterity.  If I do, I promise I will make a video of it.

Tony Stark can make them in his rec room with some maintenance piping, I'm sure you could do better with tools.
