I wanted to see how many people here have heard about this and what they think of it.
-
you know, whenever I see pokemon related things i think of how they treat the pokemon like people, but then where does all the meat come from.
-
A "mature"/realistic Pokemon game would be awesome. Disenchanted trainers explore the corruption and disturbing darkside of the Pokemon world (i.e. where does the meat come from?), and coming to grips with potentially having to use their "friends" as the deadly weapons they actually are...
-
The same place Mc Donalds gets there meat... The world will never know.
-
Pokémon Soylent Green?
-
Yeah, a much darker PokeMon world, where tall grass must be avoided at all costs, you seem to get lost in one very dark forest every few days, and losing really is fatal. A world where your little friends are a bit more addicted to those potions than you'd like, where master balls are the tools of thieves, trainers are just as vulnerable in battle, and Team Rocket has guns. Where the cutesy pokemon die off and wild ones are very dangerous.
I like that idea.
And Pokerus is Cancer. Just a thought.

Wasn't there a manga that tried to make Pokemon SRS BZNESS, with violence and swearing and all those "mature" themes? Sorry, I can't take that seriously. The initial twenty or so episodes of the anime are about as gritty and realistic as the franchise can be without seeming completely contrived.
Plus, hae you SEEN the newer Pokemon? Like, Ruby/Sapphire and Diamond/Pearl? Those things are ridiculous.
Granted, the vast majority of Pokemon are quite silly. But at least they had some grounding in reality: Pidgey, Tauros, Goldeen, Kangaskhan, to name a few.

Yeah, the only way I could do a "Grim and Gritty" Pokémon game would be to do it ironically. It's really hard to subvert a kid's show like that (which is why when it's done right, it's fucking amazing).
-
why do they treat pokemon like people yet make the beasts participate in animal fighting?
-
Because they're somehow "friends" and "people" after they've been confined to a tiny sphere for an unspecified amount of time.
And somehow it's not considered to be cruel or fighting as long as your opponent loses consciousness instead of dying.
PokeMon's pretty dark already.
-
Really, if you want to play "dark" Pokémon, you should stick to Monsters and Other Childish Things.

The first step would be to kick that Gar up a notch >.>

The top image first repulsed me, then made me smile a little.
That second image was kind of cool.
