Gonna run it.  Lookin for players so I can do a dry run before my players murder it.  Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section.

The Player characters in this each play a band member in a rock band named as they choose.

The point of the RPG is to have fun and go through the many misadventures of the rock band. The PC’s start out with a garage that they owe rent on, a band, and nothing else.  It’s up to them whether they succeed or fail, so be prepared to go far, far off the rails. How they decide to make it is up to them.

standard 6 point spread. Anyone interested?

I'm all about this.  Let's see how long it takes us to start eating gremlins.   ::)

I am fairly interested, I am reading the rules to Wushu now.

I will keep checking in to see what the status is of this.

Is is supposed to be action moviesque or just comedic band hijinks

A little of both.  Depends on where the characters take the action.

Thanks for the replies thus far.

If there are any other questions feel free to ask.

Let's see how long it takes us to start eating gremlins.
Can't wait for the gremlin pie eating contest...oddly enough one of my players last game mentioned this.  He added matter-of-factly "Well if there were Gremlins then Mr. T would eat them. It only makes sense."

42.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

One more thing, but nothing to do with the game. Statistics are awsome.  Air is 100% lethal and should be avoided at all costs because 100% of people exposed to this poison have died or will die in the future lol

So three up.  One more to go...those interested go ahead and post your characters.  Let me see what you've got.  Game starts next Sunday ;D

We should probably figure out our roles in the band and work from there.

We should probably figure out our roles in the band and work from there.

Drop some ideas or post up a character.  First come first serve. Fight for position on the stage? We've all seen this.  Could lead to some fun RPing.  Let me see what you've got. I'd love to see a backstory.  Drop Character Descriptions here.  The PC's are in a band together already, but if you want something not known by the other players (like you used to be a mob hitman and are on the run) PM or email me after you post your characters.

An we should agree on an idea of what kind of music they are playing so we are all on the same page.

Drop an idea.  Anything's good.  If you all want to be the roughest toughest group of acid-folk inspired hip-hop MC's go for it.  The point of the game is fun.  If you're not having any then it really isn't a game worth playing.

Let's start with an easy one.  What do you as players expect out of the game? Do you want a serious game of heart-breaking betrayal, lies, and small sunny vistas interspersed amongst the despair that real bands go through or do you want a more light hearted game.  Post it here.  The game is as much about the players as the GM.

Since the title is Rock n Roll, I figured we were more of a Classic Rock / Blues Rock sort of deal.  I was also planning to play lead guitar (though I imagine that was everyone else's as well).

I expect a more light-hearted game, involving our start as a local garage band and battling against local bands (somewhat literally) with our music.

In short, somewhere around Scott Pilgrim.

Ironically enough I was going to request either drums or bass anyway...
: Re: WUSHU Rock and Roll Play by Post

As a 3-man band, the vocalist normally doubles up on bass or rhythm guitar (or electric organ if you're crazy enough / Geddy Lee).

Actually I wanted my character to be the vocalist and the music genre sounds good to me.

Thus far a three man band...not bad.  Hope we can snag another player or two before we start next Sunday.  Game sounds promising thus far.  Any other takers?

For those with already defined rolls drop a character description and some stats.  Remember to PM if there's anything "secretive" about your characters.

Just saw this, I'd be willing to jump in as the rhythm-guitarist/vocalist if there's still spots.

ALSO ALSO ALSO the fucking mandolin.

So you want to be Neil Peart to our respective Rush?

Actually I was already thinking about having him worship Neil Peart...as most drummers do.

Also I am going to try to emulate one of my buddies to a certain extent, he plays the drums and I like his performance style.

Go for it, but to be a team player you may want to be a backup vocalist dreaming of being the star of the show.  Nothing like some good old party conflict.  Anyhoo, game looks like its shaping up to be pretty awsome ;D

I listened to the first half an hour of the leauge 88 game and I kinda get it, I 'lllisten to more today after work, but i am pretty interested in the idea so far.

Don't take League '88 to be the representative sample.  There were margaritas involved.  It is, like all other games, a fairly good way to learn the rules.

I submitted this to Addled GM, and he made it sound like the rest of you had characters, so I just started playing along.  Here's my character and what the party knows of him.

Mike Benton, Age 25 (Lead Guitar):

It is said that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to become a genius at your chosen craft.  Mike Benton is proof of this and more.  Since the age of 10, this aspiring Chicago guitarist has practiced 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year.  In short, all of his free time is devoted to perfecting the craft.

Every session, Mike will play approximately 40,000 notes and speak less than 5 words.  Because of this ritual practice, Mike doesn't know too many people outside the band, and doesn't relate too well even with the people in the band because they don't understand "The Music."  He's willing to put up with the other members (and be somewhat friendly) because they practice the craft, but he doesn't exactly respect anyone who doesn't worship it

Mike never went to college, and didn't exactly wow his teachers in High School.  However, his father was an auto mechanic, and managed to get him a job at his local garage.  While Mike wasn't as enthusiastic about auto repair and maintenance as he was the guitar, he learned quickly enough and developed a fairly rounded knowledge of the subject.  He was fired after some family trouble.  He would later get a stocking job at a local record shop ("Izzy's Broken Record") to support his basic living expenses (namely for the broken down home the band lives in).

Reluctant Machine Repair Skills: 4
Heavy Lifting: 3

So far I have seen and approved two characters.  I figured that I might as well start the game given the fact that this PbP forum seems to be a ghost town most of the time. Sorry I forgot to post that here.

The first scene is on the forum already

If you have any questions drop me a PM.  Post a description of your character here.  The game is still young so any new arrivals are welcome.  Thanks for checking out this game.

Ernest Matthews - Age 26 (Drums)

How do you get a drummer off your front porch? Pay him for the Pizza! *Rimshot*

Ernest Matthews learned to play the drums about 13 years ago, he was taught by his Uncle while staying with him for a summer. He took to the Drums like a fish takes to water or how his father takes to corney sayings like that.

He works at a Pizza place in town because he likes the tips and the flexible hours, his primary duty is to deliver the pizzas and he has been known to get people their food in record times.

He does have one other hobby beyond drumming and that is photography he has entered many art competitions at the local JC he attends and has won several.

His drum set is pretty old but he keeps it in good repair, the only thing you would find amiss is that his drum stool looks like it went through Vietnam. He doesn't care however, no matter how uncomfertable it is, that is still his "Throne".

I'd be interested in playing, if there's still room.  I saw a local band once that had a member who didn't play any instruments.  Instead, he wore a crazy costume and did fingerpainting to the music.  That's right, fingerpainting on a 6'x3' white canvas that had all sorts of wierd alien designs on it by the time the show was over.  I'm thinking of having a character like that, someone who entertains the audience in a non-musical way while the other band-members play.  What do you think?

You should play a reject from Blue Man Group.

In the true spirit of WUSHU i'll give each of the players already in the game a vote as to whether this fits their collective "idea" of the genre that we're shooting for.  PM me a yay or nay on the "improvisation artist."

OH SHIT guys, I just saw this was still going. I'm sorry, I forgot all about this.

Here's my character:

Jeffery Benton -Aged 23 (The Fucking Mandolin, Back-Up Vocals)

Who plays the Mandolin? I mean, really!
Jeff comes from a long line of Mandolin players, stretching back to his Great-Great-Grandpa Jonathan Benton. The day he turned 13 he was handed his father's Mandolin, and told to treat it with the same reverence he'd treat his own mother.

Jeff, being one who hates "adult" work, only attended community college and has never held a real job. Instead, he has pan-handled on the streets of whatever city it is we are based in from the day he received his Mandolin.

Jeff comes from a community of musical people, and thus is probably the band's connection to the music scene/responsible for getting gigs set up.

Those Quick Bluegrass Fingers - 5
