: Salkovich November 15, 2010, 03:56:04 AM
So, seeing as it's 3:51AM for me and a comparable ridiculous time for anyone else viewing at the time of posting, let's have a classy discussion, shall we?

I propose a toast:

: Re: The Late-Night Thread

Combination chronic insomnia, lived too hard this weekend and thus screwed over my sleep schedule, and a sheer willingness to be insane.

Well if you have insomnia there is always the one true cure for that:

A few years back, as part of a school experiment, I tried an 32-on, 12-off sleeping pattern to see if it improved my study habits.

It's amazing how fucking dumb that idea sounds with the benefit of hindsight.

: Re: The Late-Night Thread
: Dom November 18, 2010, 04:31:34 PM
As far as I know, to set up a irc channel you just join an irc network and then create a channel. More than that, you're supposed to register the channel with the network to have full control over it. Quakenet and Undernet are some examples of irc networks where you can register your channel.

Some stuff I found on a quick Google search:

http://irchelp.org/irchelp/irctutorial.html#part3

http://irchelp.org/irchelp/changuide.html

EDIT: Trying out how to create a channel: irc://quakenet/rpprpublic

DOUBLE EDIT: For those that don't know how to use IRC, here's a very easy way to join Quakenet:

http://webchat.quakenet.org/

Type in a nickname, then type in the Channels field "rpprpublic" without the quotation marks.

Either using mIRC or an applet, you can connect to irc.gamesurge.net

I tend to figure out what an essay is about toward the end of writing it and then have to start over. Seriously, I was 40 pages into a chapter draft when I figured out that my thesis was something completely different.

For some reason I can be damn structured when it comes to creative writing but I'm presented an essay and all of a sudden I'm an extra in a horror movie fumbling around in the dark for the light switch while my flashlight batteries die.

: Re: The Late-Night Thread
: Moondog December 28, 2010, 02:52:23 AM
Today has been a beautiful day. I don't mean the weather. That has been cold and unforgiving, with winds blowing hard enough to rock cars on the road, making my apartment creak and groan in tune with the howling.

Not the town I live in either. A small village of about 2000 people, with nothing bigger than a Food Lion up on the hill by way of amenities, and even that isn't as well stocked as I would like or am used to.

Not my sleeping habits, as evidenced by me being awake at nearly 3 in the morning to type this.

But, as I sit in my computer chair, the soft light of my monitor casting shadows in the room, and sip an 18 year old scotch (Glenfiddich), like liquid amber in a rocks glass to use a cliche'd phrase, I realize my only pressing concern, the only thing that weighs on my mind. . . is that my glass is almost empty.

my weekly dnd session just ended, when some of my players were standing in the back yard smoking they had an debate about whether or not the current game was working with 8 players. I started with 4 and was planning on 6, but things seem to be highly distracted at the table now i am up late trying to figure out how to fix this. Short of removing two players i have decided to ask everyone to keep the OOC chatter under wraps. Either way I guess I'll dig back into my cabinet and have a drink while i mull this over.... what do you guys suggest? (Advice on the game or booze will be accepted.)

Ran out of my Maker's, unfortunately, so for the moment I'm making do with Jack Daniels mixed with this wonderful spicy ginger ale:

This isn't whiskey, but I tried this tonight and was pretty impressed: http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/unibroue-blanche-de-chambly/8820/
