As you may know, Caleb is working on a ransom project of his very own. It will be for Bryson Springs and some other horror scenarios. He will be doing it through his own Kickstarter account so it will not technically be a RPPR ransom (although we will of course promote and link to it and all that good stuff).
That's gotten me thinking about what the next 'official' RPPR ransom/Kickstarter project will be. I have 3 ideas fleshed out right and I'm working on a fourth one. I'm not quite ready to reveal the details about the third project but you will already be familiar with these:
Heroes of New Arcadia Sourcebook: A campaign setting based on our Wild Talents campaign. A PDF along the lines of the New World ones - describe the setting, important NPCs, plot hooks - plus stats in WT and M&M for various important characters.
I Wear No Mask: A compilation of my Hastur/King in Yellow/Carcosa materials/scenarios. Reality bending madness and architectural horror. Could include a novella/ebook fiction work as well.
Slender Man novel and/or RPG campaign: I took the basic idea of the Slender Man and expanded it to fit my own vision - this will be an original interpretation of it - the one shots I've run based on Slender Man would be the foundation of the project.
Questions/comments? What do you guys think? What are you most interested in seeing me work on next?
-
Heroes of New Arcadia source book. I've been trying to get people to play Wild Talents but it's quite complex to try and explain the way New Arcadia functions.
-
Well, my knee-jerk answer is "ALL OF THEM SHUT UP ROSS AND TAKE MY MONEY."
But, since I'm a rational person, I'll rank them according to what I'd like to see the most:
1. Hastur
2. New Arcadia
3. Slenderman

yeah I will probably do all of them
also - what interests you more - RPG material or fiction? Would you contribute for just fiction or would a combo of both be preferable?
-
2, 3, 1
As far as fiction vs. RPG, I think both are awesome. Basically I enjoy reading flavor text in scenarios a bit like they are stories and enjoy reading stories thinking about how gameable they are. So either way is cool...
-
I'm in favor of fiction-esque RPG material, I think. Especially in the case of the Hastur games.
-
I seem to be in the minority here but, Slenderman!
-
RPG material is most important to me. Fiction is fine as a seperate project; I don't want to combine the two into a single packet.
-
1. Hastur
2. Slenderman
3. New Arcadia
I'm okay with fiction as well as RPG scenarios.
EDIT: Also, wasn't there going to be a Kickstarter soon from Caleb? Is that still happening, and is it gonna be sponsored by RPPR?

Yes it is. Caleb's setting up his own KS account but we'll plug it on RPPR. His will be in May I think. I'll do mine in July probably.
-
1. New Arcadia
2. Hastur
3. Slender Man
Wild talents is incredible, and I want to run a good campaign for my friends to get them into it. Your Hastur stuff was fun, especially the game I got to do over Skype.
I could take Slenderman or leave him, to be honest. I haven't watched Marble Hornets and I didn't really read too much of the SA thread where he was born.
Your fiction's pretty awesome, so I'm definitely digging the combo option.
-
1. Hastur hastur hastur
2. Slenderdudes
3. New Barcadia
RPG material first and foremost.
-
New Arcadia definitely. Just started listening to the campaign after finishing off the New World. Would love to expand my groups gaming horizons beyond 3.5.
-
1. Slenderman
2. Has... He who shall not be named (Seriously, I cringe whenever I say the name.)
3. New Arcadia
-
...I will give you my credit card details and unrestrained use of it if you keep supplying us with awesome.
You monster
-
hey i made this a poll now
-
I'm in the shut up and take my money camp. I don't have a useful crew of people to play with, so the end product is only of abstract interest to me. but the closest thing I've ever felt to religion is Kickstarter and RPPR is the only Kickstarticipant that's ever given me shit I love for free before even asking anyone for money, so you can count me in whatever you end up goin for. voted for New Arcadia just because I'd like to see some of the thinking behind the APs, if it would indeed be for the same DIYTranshumanity setting.
and Dangers of Fraternization alone was so wonderful in the bonus episodes last time that you've got me hypnotized into doing my best to reach any tier that offers preview episode rewards again. =3
-
omg the poll is so close - obviously it comes down to new arcadia and hastur. I'll mention this in the next episode to see if we can get some more votes.
-
Dang. I had thought there were some Caleb and Tom kickstarters in the works. D:
No offense Ross. I have faith that I'll get my Kickstarts eventually.
THAT SAID, I'd love to see the Heroes of New Arcadia Sourcebook! Bring it on! I love it!

did you not read the thread
-
I was hoping for some unholy combination of Caleb and Tom.
Like a Calom. Or Toleb. And for that combination to bring us an amalgam of atmosphere and storytelling like Andrew's Fire. Or something eclipse phasian
It.Would.Rock.
I'm more than happy to support a HoNA project though. :D It is a beautiful setting.
-
I would first like to say hello to everyone on this site :)
Now to the question.I voted for Slenderman largely on the nWoD miniseries that they did(which I am looking forward to hearing the rest of those when they all get released).I also like it for largely the creep factor, which while present with Hastur, death tends to be more common a thing in CoC then WoD,and thus making it seem like less of a thing then WoD(though not enough to not buy the 30th Anniverary edition they just released. Its so pretty.)
My vote is
1:Slenderman
2:Hastur
3:Heroes of New Arcadia
-
I have re-closened the votes. You'll find no compromise here! The New Arcadia and Hastur intend to fight to the death using the Slenderman supports as living weapons of war. The tragic irony is, of course, that after the blood bath we won't have enough people to fund the Kickstarter...
-
Pro-skub (http://pbfcomics.com/20/) here. All of you anti-skubs are wrong. :P
-
IF the Heroes of New Arcadia win, I'm hoping for some stats for all the main PCs and what not.
Edit: In glorious full color!
-
New Arcadia, breh. Hastur is great and all, but supers is a much easier sell to my group. I kind of would like for this to see some play. Besides, glorious full color artwork of the cast! It was awesome in New World, it'll be awesome here.
-
Well it looks like New Arcadia will be next. This doesn't mean I won't do the Hastur ransom, it just means it will be a while before I do it.
The next question is: What do you want to see in the New Arcadia project? My initial idea is to do a PDF along the lines of the New World project describing the setting, major NPCs and factions and a few adventure seeds but also offer stretch goals if we go past certain marks. The initial goal will be fairly low (lower than what we've raised in the past of course) but these stretch goals let me see how passionate the fanbase is towards various goals.
Stretch goal 1: Stats for major NPCs in Wild Talents
Stretch Goal 2: Stats for major NPCs in Mutants & Masterminds
Stretch Goal 3: Additional art for the book, including depictions of campaign highlights like the fight at Big Wheel. Desktop wallpapers will be available.
Stretch Goal 4: Short story and podcast reading of "The untended garden", the origin of Paragon and the syndicate.
Stretch Goal 5: Map of Big Wheel, the particle accelerator and hidden Ideal Base and Omega One, an abandoned lair of
supervillain Omega (brand new location never used in the campaign) - with stats and descriptions of important locations.
Stretch Goal 6: Base Raiders, a standalone comic book set in the New Arcadia universe featuring characters from the campaign!
Base Raiders is about a group of superhumans that find, break into and raid abandoned supervillain and hero bases for profit i.e. dungeon crawling in a superhero world. I have an outline for a standalone 20-24 page comic based on raiding Omega One, the abandoned base mentioned in stretch goal 5. I haven't picked a final lineup for the raiders but I'm leaning towards:
Possible New Arcadia spoilers
Wayfarer
Peter Silvertail
Knight Errant
Iconoclast
Bloodhound
Raoul
Yog
Beatrice
Peracles
I'll pick 4 of them for the comic. This will be an actual printed comic that I will mail to people if we get to this stretch goal (I can add new rewards if we get to this stretch goal so you can upgrade your reward later if we get to this). It will take place between the second and third campaign tiers but will be written so that you don't need to know the campaign to enjoy it. None of the player characters will be involved (except possible cameos/mentions) because I want Base Raiders to be a standalone title and the heroes of New Arcadia already have their own story, based on their choices.
I don't know how much it would cost exactly to do a comic but if there's a strong showing of support, then I will make it happen.
-
Really happy to see the M&M stats as a stretch goal. We play DC Adventures in our own world so that would be awesome to be able to drop in as Heroes for Hire type side quests. Looking forward to it!
-
I think many of us would be happy to throw in our character stats for anybody who wants to see them. We could downgrade them to the initial 250pts or put in our current 500+ characters. I still think a great pic for Ean to do would be a group shot of our heroes. Perhaps at street level and/or global/cosmic tier. Also Ross don't forget Pericles! He'd be perfect for the comic. And when are you going to release the one-shot with Thad, Brian, and me? Verily!
-
Oh I need to also mention, the main book will mostly focus on the street level part of the campaign, but there will be a section on cosmic tier/world of transhumanism superpowers everywhere.
added Peracles to list of characters for Base Raiders.
-
Street level game New World primer style sounds great. I hope we make it to the Comic book stretch goal.
Stats for the heroes for the initial 250 points (redux). Group pic of the group fet. the heroes that we only saw once would be pretty cool.
If it was a poster I wouldn't mind either, or maybe that is a fantasy I'll just have to nurse for a while- Desktop Wallpapers?

Desktop wallpapers will be part of stretch goal 3 now. Good idea!

I'm helping! :D I'm helping!

Well, Caleb's huge success with the No Security Kickstarter has got me thinking about the eventual New Arcadia Kickstarter.
Instead of a ransom PDF, I want to create some actual products for sale. Here are the possibilities:
A Heroes of New Arcadia campaign setting book, for use with all superhero RPGs . Available as Print on Demand paperback or PDF.
Base Raiders: a comic about a group of heroes that find, break into and raid abandoned supervillain and hero bases for profit i.e. dungeon crawling in a superhero world. Available in print, PDF or CBR.
Heroes/Raiders Omnibus: A full color paperback that combines the first two titles into one larger work. Available in print or PDF.
Map of Omega One, Supervillain Base: An 18x24 map of Omega One, an abandoned supervillain base. Not a grid map, but a poster that will look cool hanging on a wall or as a prop for a game where your players actual plan to raid it.
Thoughts? Still haven't figured out how long to make the comic but I have definite goals for it - I want it to highlight how Omega One works as a superhero dungeon and still make it an entertaining comic in its own right. Not sure how long it will take to do that. It might be 24 pages, but it could go to 60 pages.
-
Well, I'm sold. I like the idea of the Omnibus if that doesn't require to to put more limits on the comic.
-
I've started outlining the project but it seems like getting quality artists will be a problem. Ean and Violet are overworked as it is. I'll have to find some more artists for hire.
-
Where should we direct artists if we know some that are looking for work?
-
email me at rpprpodcast@gmail.com works best I suppose.
-
A Heroes of New Arcadia campaign supplement (or Base-raiders core book) would be amazing! When would you be starting your kickstarter (I don't want to miss it!)?

as soon as one artist finishes the cover art for the book.

Just listened to the Horror in the Here and Now episode and you guys mention that the lone survivor actual play was going to be a preview actual play for backers of the Base Raiders game? what happened with that?

Excuse me, I upgraded to a wireless simulacrum long ago.

Isn't that just a fancy way of saying 'pissed off Jason and he came after me with the scissors'?
