: Disney poised to take over the world.
: Flawless P October 30, 2012, 07:02:17 PM
Disney bought Lucas Arts for $4 Billion today.

As my friend said.

"I'd sell out the childhood dreams of millions for $4 Billion."

Well played Disney.

Marvel comics produces a new comic of Indiana Jones?

I'd say it's safe to assume Star Wars comics will end up at Marvel when IDW loses it's license.

Also, they annouced Star Wars Episode 7.

Disney announced it for 2015

Micheal Bay rumored to write/direct but I'm pretty sure that was a sick joke and I have no sources on this one.

I heard JJ Abrams or Joss Whedon, myself. Michael Bay better be kept the fuck away from this one, we just got it away from one batshit creator.

I for one am not worried, I think Disney will do fine with Star Wars. Im glad to see there being made. Marval has been fine, Pixar has been doing good. The part I like the best is yes lucas sold it for 4 billion, but hes also geting like 40 million shares of Disney as part of this. So yeah Hes still got plenty invested into Star Wars hes just not making it any more.

I don't understand what this means at all.

Otherwise it was either this or wait for Star Wars to enter public domain before getting more movies. And looking at Avengers, there's a good chance of a good movie coming out of this. Starring Captain EO. (I kid, I kid.)

Meh...
It does not matter.  Joss Whedon is my master now.

But if they get Joss to direct...Then I'll take interest.

Think about it...
Nathan Fillion as Han Solo, NPH as C3P0...
I can see it now!  ;D

Against my will this has been confirmed by outside sources. *sigh* I'm not really worried; I'm not especially invested emotionally in the Star Wars movies and I'm the sort of guy who likes bad movies anyway.

The prequels gave me some small measure of fun but they also gave me hilarious rifttrax and the simply amazing Red Letter Media Star Wars reviews.

I am the High Cleric of Joss Whedon.

Ia Ia Joss Whedon Ftghan.

I want it to be either Joss or Kevin Smith who directs. Preferably a Script written by Kevin Smith based off of the stuff Lucas Arts has been sitting on for years.

Kevin smith as the wrighter would be amazing, but sadly doubt it. I think he would turn it down in fear of being too controlled by Disney. After avengers joss is a good choice, and I too pray for that.

I've already heard they're going to do episode 7-9. Not sure where in the timeline they will be in. Also most likely Marvel will get the rights to the comics so that will hurt Dark Horse a lot.

: Teapot November 01, 2012, 10:28:41 PM
Well, I guess Smith can't do any worse than he did when he was writing Batman. Or any of the other movies he made that didn't work for me.

If we're looking for directors, I'd go straight to Kevin Rubio because he's directed Star Wars style films before.

John Carter pretty much proved to me that Disney can make a competent, big-budget sci-fi action adventure.
Seriously, did you see that movie? It was rad.

Unfortunately, it also proved that they have no idea how to market such a thing... and seeing Disney, of all companies, fail at marketing is just bizarre. I left John Carter wanting to buy fully-articulated Thark action figures and a big plush Woola, but such things were never even made. I mean, c'mon.

Lucasfilm, on the other hand, is great at pushing the Star Wars brand. And, when George Lucas isn't writing, they put out some fantastic stuff. Lucas has, for most of his career, been a brilliant idea man--so long as he handed those ideas over to better writers--and had a great eye for talent. Unfortunately, he began to believe the hype about himself being a creative genius, nobody would say "No" to him, and everything went to shit.

I don't know if the Disney/Lucasfilm buy will change things for the better, but at least it will change things... so improvement is at least an option. Hell, even spiraling into catastrophic destruction would be more interesting than stagnation.

Also, I know this is probably never going to happen, but:

Disney•Pixar's Star Wars: Episode VII

...

Please? :'(

It's good to see you guys aren't freaking out like people elsewhere in the internet.

I'm kinda looking forward to see Star Wars handled by people other than George Lucas.

Also, Disney is going to get the special effects resources Lucas built up.  We may see more of it in use through Disney's various studios.  Let's just hope they don't go overboard like with the Star Wars prequels.

There's no reason to freak out. Disney is very good about not stuffing undue things in their franchises; you don't see Donald Duck creeping into Wolverine comics, and you won't see Darth Mickey in the new Star Wars.

Even more than that, Disney, through a variety of subsidiaries, owns a *ton* of separate studios that make a wide variety of moves, including horrible slasher films. With so many resources available to them, and fairly competent managerial staff, they could do a lot of good to the franchise.

Especially if they keep George 'Jar Jar Binks Was A Good Idea' Lucas out of it.

HOLY CRAP THE SCREENWRITER OF TOY STORY 3 IS WRITING THE NEW STAR WARS SCRIPT (http://www.starwars.com/news/michael-arndt-to-write-screenplay-for-star-wars-episode-vii.html)!

(Okay... gotta stay cool. Stick with cautious optimism.)

I am cautiously optimistic about the next Star Wars.

http://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/scifi/abc-finally-star-wars-underworld-tv-series.html

With Disney having acquired the Star Wars franchise, a TV series based on the Star Wars underworld is becoming a bit more likely. It would likely be a darker take on the Star Wars universe, like the article says, a possible "Deadwood in space".

Honestly it reminds me a bit of Dan's Star Wars ORE game, excluding crazed former moisture farmers.  ;)

Zach Snyder will be directing a Star Wars non-trilogy movie, loosely based around Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai.

7 Samurai? Its not that I don't like it or The Magnificent Seven, but its not my idea of a Star Wars film.

What are the bandits going to be Sith?

Now I've heard rumors about JJ Abrams but with his track record I'm sure I will see a Star Wars that mirrors the old Star Trek. Since he turned Star Trek into Star Trek Wars.
