: Why I Love Tom Church
: Dawnsteel June 24, 2009, 06:02:20 PM

There's more to come.  It's been a rough day, and my brain doesn't want to work anymore.
: Re: Why I Love Tom Church

1) He has the same name as one of my friends
2) Sense of humor uhm well let us just say I enjoy it thouroughly.
3) Action GAMES!
4) Uhm his Yakuza Character? Crazy Shit!
5) He delivers
6) He frustrates Ross
7) He doesn't really pussyfoot around
8) Crystal Pepsi
9) Gargoyles!
10) Shy and cute
11) DBZ Game

Yeah, I could fill a lamb's-blood-stained black leather diary with Tom's virtues.
: Re: Why I Love Tom Church
: Tadanori Oyama June 24, 2009, 10:03:16 PM
I like that virtually whatever Ross bring up, Tom has either played something like it or knows someone who has.
: Re: Why I Love Tom Church
: JonHook June 25, 2009, 05:05:04 PM
I agree, Tom is awesome. Listening to Ross and Tom is like listening to Abbott and Costello. Ya gotta love Tom's "Costello" to Ross' "Abbott".

I WANT  more of Ross' radio announcer voice just to hear Tom rail against him for it!!!
: Re: Why I Love Tom Church

1)  He is the foul mouthed Jay to Ross' clever and eloquently spoken Silent Bob... minus the weight

I love Tom Church because we had almost a psychic connection when playing CoC games and often it was an evil psychic connection.
: Re: Why I Love Tom Church
: jonnygadfly June 26, 2009, 02:09:38 PM
I love Tom Church because:

1) He is a wealth of practical game knowledge. I have absolutely no doubt that my games have improved because of Tom's experience and advice.

2) He is a great Role-player. Listening to the many and varied Actual Plays leaves me with the distinct impression that Tom is exactly my favorite kind of Player; He really gets into his character, and stays in-character, and he is an active player, not content to sit back and let the others come up with the ideas. Tom keeps the game moving forward.

3) He has great taste. Not only in games, but in music (sorry, Ross: Reverend Horton Heat beats techno 7 days a week and twice on Sunday), comedy, and pop culture.

4) He is funny as hell.

Overall, Tom is exactly the kind of guy I'd like to hang out with.

I'd love to hear some actual plays with Tom as GM. How about it, Tom?
: Re: Why I Love Tom Church

1) Clever and witty
2) He got my group into mutants and masterminds
3)He's cute  ::)
4)His Ablity to remain Lawful good Even with the rest of the party being Baby eating evil

Wait, wait, wait... you mean Tom isn't an evil baby eater? When did this change?
: Re: Why I Love Tom Church

Well he can be an evil baby eater but he can also be the paladin with a heart of gold

I was worried Tom posting in a thread about how much we love Tom may be a little gauche,  but what do you know, it was just crude, hilarious and so very Tom.

I add a 3rd reason to my list, that last post

Do you want to be Luther or Calvin to my Catholic Church?

C'mon, let us get back on topic. :P

Tom Church doesn't need a cult. Tom Church is  7 foot tall, stunningly handsome, immeasurably intelligent,
and he can kill a man with his toes.

Another reason I LOVE TOM CHURCH is his unceasing criticism of the horribly cliche announcer voice.

I would be in full support of more Tom time, especially if that time is being spent listening to Tom attempt to melt someone or something to bubbling slag with vemonous words alone.

See if you can name all the characters.  ;D
: Re: Why I Love Tom Church
: Tadanori Oyama January 19, 2010, 07:42:59 PM
I've only got about half of them down.

Lizard with wings is Vashik.
Bat and skin is the laundrymat dude.
"Headsman" is in the upper left next to the character based on The Lizard and the raptor from Dodgeball.
Middle top is The Revenant, as a guess.
Kid and Mr. Dukes on the lower right.

So, that leaves the rope dude, the soluting dude, and the cop pitching donuts.

The cop has me scratching my head but I assume one of the other two is the SAS Mall Cop.
: Re: Why I Love Tom Church
: Sean-o-tron January 19, 2010, 08:48:39 PM
top left is the Yakuza cannibal
rope dude is The Revenant
guy to his right is one of his WW2 CoC characters
middle top is the Esoterrorists character
doughnut-dropping cop is from night shift

I know the accuracy is off, but I just wanted to make sure the silhouettes were varied enough (except for all the lizard dudes, what's up with that?)

but seriously, I have this saved as a 300 dpi 8x8" .psd, and could easily change it to a vector graphic or adapt it for other colored shirts.
... just saying :).

Yeah but hate is such a strong word.
I feel that with the right training and guidance Aaron could graduate from boyman to manboy.

And another reason I love Tom Church is because of his efforts as a jedi master to Aaron's padawan learner.

The dude's how old? Boy vs man isn't the issue, it's a matter of his personality. Aaron has personality traits I dislike, just like my brother. I tolerate them in my brother because he's my brother but I'm not going to go look for friends who annoy me.

Ross and Tom have done alot of material about not playing with people you don't like, even if they are good roleplayers. I share quite a few interests with Aaron; I just can't stand how he communicates.

He's in age of mask as the Silver Scarab, a superhero who's powers consists of: Becoming Invisible, Running away, Failing to use a proper cover, Failing to realize breaking into a police station is not a good idea, running away some more and most of all, fighting urges to be a super hero despite the GM trying to make one out of him.

I think he once did a shout out for Ironman during an episode.

At this point if you listen to the show you kind of have to know who Aaron is, he's mentioned specifically in the last three or four episodes. He's literally in the latest one.

In fairness, during his latest on air appearance in episode 40 he didn't say 'like' nearly as much as he did during the APs.
: Re: Why I Love Tom Church
: Maze January 21, 2010, 03:20:53 PM
Haha, I remember actually counting the number of "like" he said during the actual plays (he was in that one, wasn't he?)

So, do we do it, Tad? Should we leave this thread to loving Tom Church and start a new thread called: "Why I hate Aaron and everything he does".

It's mean but it might be funny.

In other news: Yay Tom.
: Re: Why I Love Tom Church

Indeed, hurray for Tom!

I think it would be a healthy exercise to have a thread that hangs Aaron like an anatomy chart we can point to while educating a classroom of young, roleplaying doctors. In the metaphorical sense.

A sort of "remove this part for continued overall health" model.

[Aaron]  To answer your question, no, I'm not religious. Though if there were an active belief system structured around attractive cat-women, I might look into it. Truth be told, that's probably more up Toms alley than mine.  As for AOM, The Silver Scarab was meant to be a fledgling hero trying to bring back the positive image of the superhero. That's how I designed and played him within the Watchmen-esque setting that Ross created. I don't feel the need to apologize for playing my characters the way I want.

And now, totally into another subject, Cheetra isn't even a furry. She's a woman who happens to share some vague cat characteristics, just like most of the Thundercats. Most of them haven't got anything more than what amounts to face makeup. Thundercats are anthro-lite.

Addition-
Rereading that I sound way to aggressive about my position. I don't want to insult anybody for thinking Cheetra is hot, I just want to make it clear that, from my point of view, that Cheetra (and most Thundercats) is(are) not really furry but rather walk a middle ground.

Rereading that I sound way to aggressive about my position. I don't want to insult anybody for thinking Cheetra is hot, I just want to make it clear that, from my point of view, that Cheetra (and most Thundercats) is(are) not really furry but rather walk a middle ground.

Totally Agree...

...I also have to mention that, yeah Cheetara Rocks

That would be RJ. He's been a player for the last few months. He hasn't shown up on the APs yet because the APs are quite a ways behind the time.

Know what I love more than Ross as a player? Tom as a GM!

winners all!

Oh but I suppose I should supply a reason. Tom has a spine, instead of slavishly pooping out letters every week he has the strength of will to deny his responsibility to the fans. He has boundless courage which lets him  shout , "FUCK YOU FANS!" by not writing letters.

but seriously, i'm in the first stages of withdrawal- not a pretty sight, nor smell, nor taste.

AH! Glad this thread got resurrected.

I was listening to the KGB divine fire APs and I gotta ask - did Tom ever run the third scenario in the Divine Fire campaign that he mentioned? Because that would be awesome.

Just gotta keep summoning Azathoth

I love Tom Church because he is the man!

When I first started listening to RPPR (right around the time you guys started), I found Tom to be slightly annoying.

The last few years have really given me an appreciation of Tom and his humor in that I find myself laughing at the shit he says. In fact I think somebody should produce a pilot for a T.V. show called "Shit Tom Church Says!" and we could get Tom Green to play Tom Church...
: Re: Why I Love Tom Church
: Shallazar October 21, 2010, 04:21:38 PM
Or Tom Selleck.

Cuz Tom green is kind of way less manly than Tom Church.

Alright, so I was listening to Go Go Go! Today and I was just falling in love with all the great advice from Tom.

I mean, in comparison Ross sounds like he doesn't know action. I mean, having a fight in a condemned building with the foundation rigged to blow for controlled demolition?! Awesome! I'm so about to run an action game and I had forgotten how in this Episode Tom introduces it and it is super cool!

Tom should introduce more episodes. And write more letters. And do more, this humble fan requests it. I like being creepy and weird, but I learned it from watching Tom so it is a-okay pardner.

PS. Another reason I love Tom Church is his awesome mocking laugh that he makes after somethings Cody says.
: Re: Why I Love Tom Church

Ahem.

I love Tom Church because:
What kind of animal will your character be able to turn into? I'm think adapted streetshark.

Bat actually.  And no changing.  Permanent.
All right, Langstrom (hehe) if you aren't able to turn back and forth, it's going to be a very boring game unless we get an image inducer or something.  Obviously, there would be no secret identity, but how are you going to interact with NPCs when we are not on a set mission?

With fear.

*****Spoilers!*****

I was so surprised that Ross had that much criticism! As a listener, I loved it. And the funny thing is that they had clues all the time; even they talked about being in the Matrix and how the bow of the ship was flooded, I think they should have followed up on those things. I thought it played out just like a movie and I was very entertained.

Well done, sir!

Running an hommage of  the masterpiece that is Divine Fire.
I'm running it in Ashen Stars for our Halloween get together.
I am so excited I will try to do the man proud.

Suffice to say it takes place on a space station recently "remembered" to have been constructed during the Mohilar war for purposes of trans-light research. Due to the Bogey Conundrum no one has been able to recall it even existed until an acquaintance of one of the doctors found an old degraded hologram while cleaning out his spacecloset. The Lazers, crew of the goodship Lazerbass, have been contracted to rescue the Doctor and bring back any research material found there. IF THEY SURVIVE!!!!!

So this evening I played in an Atomic Robo RPG module run by Mike Olsen himself.  In the module I played a pregen uplifted octopus super scientist who I dubbed Professor Crowley.

Fast forward to the end of the module.  At the apex of the Aztec pyramid in Mexico City, Professor Crowley used a spare iphone to hack Undead Edision's (or Undeadison) legion of microbots and wrestled away control of them.  Crowly then programmed the microbots to assume the form a kracken and screamed "Release the Kraken!" and had the robotic kraken sweep the horde of vampires back through the portal into the vampire dimension before it closed.  And when the portal closed with Crowley's super soldier Triceratops partner on the other side, marooning him in the vampire dimension, Crowley ordered the kracken to rip Undead Edision in two.

I've never read Atomic Robo so must of it went over my head but a giant twenty foot tall robotic horde kracken was created and unleashed in your honor Mr. Church.
