: Marvel of Disney
: VilaWolf August 31, 2009, 07:06:27 PM
So I saw on the news tonight that Disney bought Marvel Comics with a special clause for the characters.... this means that Frank Castle now works for the Mouse. My first thought was to fear for Tom's liver.

There goes any hope of a film that does Frank justice.

Wait... I take that back... There's a rumor that Disney owns a porn-studio so there's still hope, Tom !

I don't know if Disney can hurt the Punisher any more than the movies already have.

I mean I like Disney. I just hate to see major properties change hands. Merges make me very nervous, whenever they happen, because each one is a step closer to having sci-fi style Mega-Corps.

I'm good friends with a guy who is a Marvel writer. His name is Jason Aaron, he's currently writing Wolverine: Weapon X and he's going to be doing the new Punisher Max title.

I need to see if he's been given any new marching orders now that the deal is done. Jason is known as an edgy writer, so I wonder if The Mouse is going to want to curtail that a bit. We'll see.

I suspect that they will still distribute through diamond distribution.  Most first week books do.

I think this is a great thing.  Hugh Jackman is one step closer to wolverine the musical

Trust me Tom, everyone working here at Walt Disney World is saying the exact same thing.  We just have to buckle in and hope they give Marvel the same leeway they give Touchstone Pictures, Miramax Films, ABC and ESPN.

But, it's just another brick in their Great Wall of Disney (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_assets_owned_by_Disney).

I work over at the American Idol Experience in Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World, and one of the warmup hosts that comes out before each show was onstage and said to the audience, "hey, check my new Disney shirt" and unbuttoned his shirt to reveal an X-Men t-shirt underneath.  "I've had this shirt for ten years, but it's a new Disney shirt now!" and everyone proceeded to laugh.
... I don't know how I felt about that.  Plus now I get that joke every time I wear my Iron Man tee to work (even the one time I wore my Justice League t-shirt, to which I replied "they're owned by Warner Bros, dipshit").

Anyway, long story short everyone here has a bad taste in their collective mouth as well.

tl;dr
