: What is more important to you? Audio Quality or File Size?
: clockworkjoe September 08, 2009, 08:03:25 PM
Well, what do you want? I record normal episodes as uncompressed audio in garageband so I could post them as CD quality 128-192 kbps (they are 80 kbps now) and the AP episodes are recorded at 160 kbps.

Of course, the file size increases as quality increases.

So, any thoughts?

I like high quality better, iTunes downloads them in the background so I don't even notice the download time.

The same. I like quality, size is unimportant to me. If I want to crunch it down, say to fit more on my mp3 device, I can do it myself.

Sound quality I'd say, but really I have no complaints for the current quality of the Actual Plays.

I voted for quality just the same, but realized that I am running low on space on my iPod, What tools do you use to compress the file size?

Open the MP3 in whatever program you like to use (I've started using Audacity because it records good and it's free but you can use anything, event he Windows Movie Maker default program) and save it again in a lower quality format. Depending on the program you use it'll either ask what quality level you want or give you a list of kbps selections. Lower kbps equals lower size.

yeah, size isent an issue for me. so if you wanna do bigger higher quality episodes go for it.

I am happy with how it is now, but quality is definitely more important than size to me.

To give you an idea - a raw AP episode is between 150 and 300 megs on average. That's for 2-5 hours of gameplay.

Yeah, that's about what my recordings usually are. I've always been impressed with how low you got the file sizes.

I'm fine with files that big. Just means a little longer to download. Thank god for streaming audio.

I don't think that the quality is really that important.  The quality that we have at the moment is fine,  isn't it?  Wasn't someone just talking about how they were impressed they heard someone pissing on the past podcast?  Thats just me.
